View Full Version : Which job would you like to have as a woman?

If you were a girl, which job would you be doing, or would it be the same you have now? For me it would be a kind of secretary, kind of like Christina Applegate in Anchorman before she became a reporter. I just love her classy but feminine outfits there, not to forget her lovely hairstyle. She gets harrassed a couple of times, but I personally wouldn't mind it. I would take it as a compliment and it would make my work day more exciting.

I would be doing the same thing I'm doing now. Out on the road and in my office once a week. Although I was going to do a floral shop with the wife when I retire but thats no more.

Oh, you say that now...
I regret not taking a track into management, and had I been assigned female at birth, I'd have probably gone into sales, or perhaps law.
I write computer software now, and while I'm good at it, since I've transitioned, I no longer enjoy the isolation it provides. I would much prefer to work with people. It turns out I'm better with people than computers.
None of that has a thing to do with clothing though. Ironically enough, as a manager or as an attorney, I'd likely wear pants suits a lot. I hate pants suits. But of course that's mostly because I had little choice but to wear pants for 50 years. Given other options during my life, I'd probably feel differently about the matter now.

I would like to have the profession I have right now. Considering the field I work in (Human Resources) has probably an equal number of male to female participants, if not higher female, I don't see why I could not work in my profession in my natural state i.e. as a Cross-dresser.

I am a retiree and work in the home. My wife always would reprimand me for using the term "housewife" because she was not married to a house. I had my shot at working outside the home, and, I'll never work for $$$ again. I thoroughly enjoy doing what I do now for at least seven hours a day. I do the laundry. I bake. I do meal preparation. I vacuum. I iron. I wash the windows (at least the back of the house). I've heard the term "domestic engineer." Anyway, I do it dolled up a la June Cleaver. I get a chance to wear a pretty dress with heels and hosiery every day. If I was passable I'd probably do the grocery shopping en femme too.

It would be challenging sometimes dealing with the male condescension, but gotta admit powerful women turn me on. I'm with Krissy on this one--I'd be a CEO of a corporation. I'd wear skirt suits or classy business dresses Mon-Thu, with killer heels and sheer hose. For dress down Fri I'd get creative with some pretty flat boots and leggings, cool sweaters, etc. If not a CEO, I'd also love to be an attorney because their standards for attire are just my style!

I would have started in entertainment, back up singer for someone on a world tour and then morphed into a lead. Or on Broadway as one of the orphans in Annie and then grown into Maria of West Side story and Lizzette in Le Miz and finally Glinda opposite Adina Menzel in Wicked. After that a fail sit com on ABC and following that a well respected writer
Hey if we are going to fantasize, go big. Truth is I would have done what I did. Become a veterinarian since over 50% of vets are women it would have not been a big deal. Or I would have gotten married, found a job to help support my family and faded into oblivion like almost every other suburban family.

Due to the absence of conscription for women (2 years for men) I'd have less time to think about university and what I ultimately wanted to do with my life.
So assuming my grades and attitude didn't change from junior college I'd be trying (emphasis on try) to get into medical school as did most of my former schoolmates. (Although I eventually got a place I decided against it.)
Sorry but I don't get it. Why should we want to have a different job if we were women? I understand not everybody loves his/her job, but save for clearly gender-limited jobs which are very few, why should we want to have one preferred "female" job as opposed to a "male" job?

Jennifer, Why are you stunned? I don't think anyone is saying that they are defining what their daughters should do. They are just answering a question asked about what they would do if their dream could come true to work as a woman. Some are talking about fantasies (their own stereotypical ones), others maybe have hopes to do what they truly want, and still others would want to work at what they are actually doing today, only in femme mode. I have a daughter and an almost grown grand daughter and they are doing what they want with advice from me and others when needed or asked for.
I actually like Lorileah's reply. If we are going to dream, why not dream big? I think I would like to work in New York City in some type of interesting management position where I had to interface with a lot of different people from all over the globe with a lot of international travel thrown in. I would live in a great part of town, frequent all kinds of restaurants, go to all types of plays and arts events, enjoy all that the city has to offer, including just sitting in a corner café reading a good book and watching people and life go by. Now, that dream job, would also pay more than enough to make all that happen too!

Automotive Director of Design at Audi, Porsche, VW Mercedes, BMW, or any of the other auto manufacturers who still can't get it straight. Seems only Lamborghini is able to make truly beautiful cars with any consistancy (Though the new Ford GT is quite good, however, that's because it's a take on the original). Why? There's no reason all those other cars should be so ugly. And, beautiful, smart women in business can get away with all kinds of things.

I would be a trial lawyer like I am now, but I would actually enjoy the job. Women lawyers get treated differently. You don't have to suffer verbal abuse from a client or a judge who is having a bad day. A trial is theater, and having greatly expanded sartorial choices, better range of expression, my God, being able to try a case as a woman would be like getting a big power up while playing a video game.
Ah, well. A trans girl can dream. Maybe someday I will be able to publicly transition. Just once in the fifteen years or so I have left in my career, I want to try a case as a girl. Just once. :praying:

JenniferatHome, it's not so bad, I think most people are saying they'd stay with what they have: medicine, environmental management, human resources, corporate leadership, fitness instructor, software engineering professor, law, CEO, video games industry, aviation, biomedical sales, veterinarian, engineering, systems analyst, own business, automotive design, nurse ... these are all good! :)
To Bree Jackson, you might want to rethink being a model. My nephew is a model overseas. The demands made on his female model friends (and on him too, but to a lesser extent) to look perfect are huge! This is what he posted on facebook a few years ago in support of models. It's a 2 minute animation submitted to the Brussels Short Film Festival entitled Supervenus.
<edit> The link to the video I had posted was removed because it featured a drawing of a naked woman. Just google "Supervenus Doazan". Doazan is the director's name. It's very good. :)

It's interesting that many of the responses refer to "stereotypical female" roles. Interesting but, given the comments that surface when crossdressers start talking about the trend in women's clothing, not surprising.
As for the original question, do you mean "if you had been born female?" or "if you could live as a woman today?"
I'm one of those annoying people who actually enjoys their current job. So, if I was a woman I'd either keep my current job or win the lottery and retire. However, considering when and where I was born, how few girls got into any form of engineering at that time (and, of those who started in engineering, how few actually stayed), I reckon that the chances of me having this job had I been born female are actually pretty slim.
I've no daughters but I do have a niece and I sincerely hope that her choice of career isn't determined by any gender stereotyping.

I'm kind of stunned by most of the replies here. Does no one have daughters? I want my girls to kick butt in anything they choose and not have that defined for them.
Why would you be stunned? Most of the replies come from a place of fantasy/desire/want or whatnot. IMHO, this is part of the lifestyle for some (note I did not say all) CDers . . . the thrill, excitement and whatnot. Is it based on stereotypes? Most likely but again it is a fantasy question. I am guessing that if most truly had to work in that type of job, the fantasy would wear off quickly for some and perhaps not so much for others. Does this negate your daughter's ability to get a "butt kicking" job? Not likely as these folks are not making the rules in the world, only responding to fantasy question. Before you ask, my daughter is an Engineer in the military and she kicks major butt :).
Cheers

Jennifer, I understand where you are coming from. To an extent, this thread does reinforce gender roles society has in place. Yes, we need to push past those. Yes, we want our daughters to do anything they choose to do. But I think the OP was intending the question to be solely on you as a CD (it says "woman", so I'm not sure if it truly means CD or if you were a GG). That being the case, we have to keep in mind that everyone CDs for different reasons. Marcelle is right, some of the response seem to be a fantasy response and may be based on stereotypes. A lot of responders also mentioned they would retain the same job they currently have. Either response is perfectly alright if that's what a girl wants to do. We can all kick butt and look fabulous doing so.
Also, I love your post as it shows how you are with your family (at least on a small scale). They CAN be anything they want. Keep pushing that!
All that being said, my apologies for deviating from the original topic!

I know a young lady who is a professional poker player and an escort on the side. I want her life.

Being a professional poker player is cool, but I don't think I'd want to be an escort, unless it did not involve sex.

An interesting one maybe a lawyer so I could afford great clothes and get pampered regularly. if I was thinking of a job requiring a more feminine touch maybe a very skilled hairdresser or makeup artist.
Jessica, sort of surprised you didn't pick housewife since the 2 stint as one you said went well? Did you try that anymore, we haven't heard? How is that friend doing?

CEO of IBM. And the first thing I'd do is get rid of the Mongolian Horde of middle managers that do nothing but screw up the work process and suck funds out of the company. They have way too many middle managers.
Then I'd make Sam Palmisano wash my Bugatti Veyron with a Q-tip and a thimble for a bucket.

So many things I could be with my education, I would probably stick with what I am good at and be a female Computer Programmer, but instead of working on boring code projects, instead working on code for video games with a game design company. Only thing keeping me from making my own games is that I am no artist and if you cant create really good appealing graphics it doesnt matter how good the logic that controls the game is its just plain ugly. Currently I found fun in crypto projects written in C++ and spent many hours perfecting them because I am not satisfied with others creations when it comes to crypto. Its fun being able to write code that hides information and then reassembles it all back into its original form on my own. Not using it for anything illegal, but to have privacy of information so that its not in clear text for passwords and security information that I wanted to highly scramble with extra noise thrown into the crypted data so that if the book got into the wrong hands someone couldnt use it for wrong against me and rip me off etc.

A model. Walking the runway in all kinds of outfits. Truthfully I probably would not want to work as hard as they do to maintain their bodies but I am only dreaming.

I've been seriously thinking about getting some training as a makeup artist after my planned retirement next year. I would only want to work in a place where I could be dressed, of course -- but I know of several local salons and stores where that would be possible.

Honestly I don't know woman are raised different enough there was 1 girl in my electrical shop class for the whole 4 years she didnt last 6 months but Id hope if I was a woman Id of made the same choices in schooling and became a electrician plus joined the army for telecommunications and then after worked closely with my grandfather learning plumbing, machinery, and carpentry until his death. Its nice not having to call anyone because a outlet is to loose or pipes leaking or most other common issues but lets face it there's a good chance I would of ended up going another route maybe follow in my sisters footsteps and go to college and go to work for a lawyer maybe becoming one myself. My family's kinda traditional in the way males and females are raised guess who got to sit out shoveling snow every year twasnt me ever but then again my sister got of even doing housework most of the time.
I just hate the idea of relying on anyone to fix something thats easy to fix yourself. But at the same time it would suck to ruin a nice set so stockings because I had to change a tire then again I do feel like i would be a jeans and tshirt type of girl.

Nice! But, it sounds like too much work.
I'd like to own the worlds largest online drop ship bra and lingerie company that I could manage with my phone so I could then spend every day traveling in a nice sexey french maid dress.

Air Hostess would love to wear the uniform with the sun tanned tights. In common with another poster I would also like to have been a pantyhose model. Would also give anything to have been a leggy chorus girl wearing fishnet tights.

I like the job I have. Why would gender come into play. I am a highly compensated, very successful software developer for a global corporation with amazing benefits.
Having said that, I do have to admit it would be nice to be the one getting 2K a month in child support...
