View Full Version : Why do we crossdress

I just thought I would throw this out there, why do we dress....for me it is a way of life since my mother started dressing me at a very young age as she always wanted a girl....I have lived so long now 24/7 as a woman I don't know any other way of life
Just curious way all of you do it:battingeyelashes:

It's a way for me to escape the RL me and be somebody completely different and more fun. Just like how I'm sitting here wearing one of my southern belle dresses as I type this.

For me it's bringing to life a part of me that's otherwise just in my head. By bringing Tina to life she is able to grow as a person, allowing my wife and me to understand Tina better. To deny Tina is to deny a part of who We are.

To explore and express my femininity, to calm me and to soothe me. It also reduces my level of arousal and sexual desire, which is a Good Thing and helps me be in better synch with my wife's libido.

...It also reduces my level of arousal and sexual desire....
For me it's just the opposite. My feeling of sexiness is heightened when I'm dressed. Some time I just feel tingly all over when getting my things on.

I have Fibromyalgia, so I really enjoy the soft feel of the dresses and lingerie I wear. Also like makeup and women's perfume, which I consider to be part of the experience. All that combined makes me feel good for some reason. I also like men wanting me as a woman. I'm tired of having to play this butch guy that everyone wants; the guys I get en femme are way cuter and easier to deal with than what I get as a guy.

For me, I do it because I have strong need to feel and express a feminine side of myself. I don't have to look good I just have to feel what I perceive to be girly. I know I couldn't be truly happy if I wasn't allowed to do it.

For me it is the same as Happilymarriedguy and JeanTG in the facts that it relaxes me and to explore and express my femininity, to calm me and to soothe me. It also reduces my level of arousal and sexual desire.

Like some others, allows me to express my femininity in more than just in my mind, but also in behavior and interactions. I have found that as I have increased the level of makeup and clothing, that I also like putting on makeup and trying new techniques and looks. Also like putting together outfits along with the lingerie and the feel . It all helps me feel more feminine and easier to explore.

Show me something else I can do at age 70 that:
turns me on, is exciting, rewarding, challenging, brings me an endless stream of new friends, keeps me stimulated and involved in life, and is this much fun?
And, I'll dump my ladies gear a dumpster tomorrow! :tongueout

For me, firstly it's a fun sexy kink. If it wasn't a kink then I wouldn't be sexually aroused by it.
It's also a kink which I find comfortable and soothing in a way where drab mode doesn't do it. It's an escapism from the daily drab life, and it's been a sort of compensation through lack of female intimacy for years. It's my harmless way of feeling closer to it. Be my own girlfriend if you will.
OK I have a new girlfriend now, but we don't live together and I don't see her for most of the week. So this small kink privately continues on while we live apart. If I tell her, well maybe I can do it in such a way to make it look like it's partly her idea as she's into fetish clothes herself which she plans to bring round soon, and I offer to try anything of hers on for her ;)

It's the only choice I have, really. It's totally who I am and who I've always been. I could no more wear male things than I could go out completely naked; in fact, I'd go naked before I had to wear drab, even at home.

Well at 69, I just like to wear woman's clothes. Why not, I am having
a great time doing something that I should not do and getting away with it.
Not that it is wrong by any sense of the laws, it is generally against the
society laws.
I do not go out, I do under dress all the time, so in a way I go out in hiding.
As for why????? I ask you why not???

I wish I had a cute answer like most of the girls here but honestly I have no answer. I still ask myself "why?". Part of joining and participating here is the hope I get some self discovery in the process. I started around 8-9 years old and am 46 now so sneaking up on 4 full decades of cross dressing in some form or fashion. Three new things to me are wearing a wig and makeup. I didn't try that until last spring so have done that less than a year. I didn't get my breast forms until this winter. Through the years I have worn just about everything else imaginable from bras and panties to full out lingerie to dresses to heels. Sometimes a single item, sometimes a fairly full ensemble. The "drive" was always there. It would fade for months but the desire always came back and I'd be sneaking around to buy some panties or a sweater dress or something to quench the desire.
I sort of had a midlife crisis last year and decided if I ever wanted to "take it to the next level" it was "go time" so I bought a wig on Amazon and some clothes and a handful of makeup at Wal Mart and off I went. Purged again at the end of summer then started again in around November of 2015.
One thing I can say is that since "going ALMOST full femme"<not full time mind you, just that when I dress, I try to look as much like a woman as I can> this winter that when I have my wig on, am made up, and fully dressed, I do feel an overwhelming sense of happiness.
Sorry to butt in on your thread, but it just got me to thinking how lost I still am!!!
Wishing I had answers!!

I first "borrowed" my sister and moms clothes about age 14. Felt horribly guilty, said i would never do it again. Instead of dressing, i drew pretty women in dresses, decades later bought mail order hose, use towels as skirts, considered making high heels out of cowboy boots! Age 51, bought my first dress, still going. No complete answer! I just have a compulsion, drive to do it. Never had a steady girlfriend. First one killed herself. Always blocked from having a lover or wife. Loneliness. Deprived of female companion? I made myself her. Love female clothing. Being an unwanted blue collar lower income man. Many reasons.

It has and does bring a type of pleasure and happiness that I can't find anywhere else, I feel sexy (that's how I see women), the feel of putting on and wearing female clothes, this includes walking in heels and the look I see when looking in the mirror. It's being a sexy woman.
Let me give you an example, this morning I had to run errands, after showering and shaving (upper and lower) I opened my laungerie drawer and had to decide what panties and bra I would wear. Then knee high hose, boot cut girl jeans, 3" heel booties. Walking in the stores dressed from the skin out as a woman and feeling the tight feminine clothes while walking in heels just feels so femininely good. I love it !!!

Alice, something in your post struck a chord within me. There are some parallels in our lives, even though we are substantially different. You present yourself as a woman, I do not. I dress for comfort only. I dislike trousers and other male accoutrements but feel at ease in a skirt, nylons & lingerie, which I wear all the time, underdressing when required. I dream that one day I can dispose of underdressing and go about in a skirt everywhere, without being ridiculed (remember, I present as male).
So my reason for crossdressing? I like it.

I dress for the following reasons;
1-to feel sensual
2-to feel the fabulous types of fabrics that woman can experience (such as silk dresses, chiffon tops, lace ect) on their body
3-to feel feminine especially in high heel sandals
4-to feel cool (as in temperature) in summer time in my short, thin strappy dresses.
5-to able to decorate my nails (hand and feet) and show them off
6-to feel desired
7-to feel that we can all be equal (hey women crossdress every day- how many do you see wearing shirts and pants !)
It's like a jigsaw puzzle. You know how you take the time, put all the tiny pieces together. It starts totally mixed, then it starts to take shape, then you can see what it's going to be. Finally, it's a beauty! Everything is put where it belongs. The small parts have made sense from the chaos. It's finally a clear picture of where you want to be...... then, after a few hours or a few days, you tear it up and put it back in the box. But damn, it was fun putting it together.

Interesting comments. I just enjoyed the social context of being a girl and wearing the clothes that girls did. As I have grown older I still like the clothes. Why not wear silk blouses, cashmere sweaters, and beautiful clothes.

I know I like to dress because of the psychological aspect as well as the physical. It allows me to suspend my real life for a little while and I can leave my problems, obligations, responsibilities behind for just a little while. (Kind of like the same reason I like to golf only not as frustrating). As each level of transitioning from male to female evolves I feel more and more relaxed and at ease. And when everything is in place and I am satisfied with the way I look I then begin to enjoy the sensations and appearance of being a girl. It just feels nice to feel feminine every once in awhile.

Nice to see comments are very similar to my thoughts. There is some variation on the them, but in general if it feels good, and does not hurt anyone, then why not?

Every crossdresser has there own reason. I believe mine is that I was born this way. I read something about a hormonal wash that causes us to be more feminine. When I crossdress I experience several feeings, everything from relaxation from stress (when there's stress, put on a dress!) to feeling like a million bucks. My wife says women get the same feeling when they put on certain outfits. They just feel great. I enjoy that I can experience that same feeling as they do. Also, it just feels comfortable. I know some women can't walk in heels but I just took to it like a duck on water. While 4-in heels are somewhat difficult, I have no problem with 3-in heels and can walk a straight line with a little bit of hip sway. I don't want to be female. I just love women's fashion. I get the Talbot's, J Jill and other catalogs and just gaze at the clothes. i love the feel of nylon, especially wearing camisoles and nightgowns.

Tina,
whats funny is I agree with saying (being born this way), I actually have a son that also dresses, and my wife was worried about it. The funny thing is at first I felt I cured my son with my genetic, then later thought, well if it happened to him, then perhaps there is nothing wrong or perverted on how i feel, perhaps this is just me? Anyway, just wanted to bring that up as a data point

I dress for many reasons. I love the sensuous feel of the clothes on me, the textures of smooth silk and satin, nylon, chiffon and lace. I enjoy wearing and walking in heels. I am in a creative industry and I find when I dress I am far more creative and productive.

Perhaps I am overthinking the question but this is why I believe that I like to crossdress. I started dressing up in my older sister's clothes when I was a teenager for the sexual gratification. It felt so wonderful! I used to think that girls had it so nice, to be able to wear sexy lacy underwear, bras for their boob and sexy clothes while us guys had to wear plain old cotton underwear. It just wasn't fair at all!
I guess deep down, I think it's because I admired my sister so much and she was and still is a very beautiful looking lady. I wanted to be like her, beautiful, sexy and confident.

I think this question is bigger than all of us. I only know that it makes me feel carefree and happy :) I guess thats my ''why'' but everyone here is different with different dress styles, personas, looks, and attitudes when it comes to dressing but its the dressing that unites us all I like that about it too :hugs: I asked myself why for over 10 years before I even dressed for the first time. I stopped asking why and now I'm me :)

This should be a sticky.
At this point, I crossdress because I have been doing it for over 50 years and I haven't found anything that is more satisfying and exciting. Not that I ever looked around for something else. Also, it fullfills the male desire to be around a female of our own creation.

I dress for most of the same reasons already mentioned. I dress for the incredible intensity it gives me and the intense desire to explore my feminine side so much deeper. I would love to live 24/7 as a woman . For now, I am content to be Pamela when I can......but the desire and intensity continues to grow .

I'm sure I've always had a inner female - my inner "Cosmo Girl". It was like a explosion in my brain when I read my first Cosmo - I finally started to understand who I was inside. I'm not a full cross-dresser, just love wearing lingerie, pantihose, stockings and high heals. I've had a couple of complete transformations though care of a local expert called "Celeste" who helps CD's realise their dreams. These two transformations were wonderful experiences and I'm sure I will do them again. It is very likely I will get into dress wearing - still not sure of the whole make up and wig thing yet. I am really looking forward to buying my first dress! I do have this issue in that I feel like a Cosmo Girl inside, but the mirror tells a very different story. I really really want to feel like a woman, but know I will never pull of looking like one. My feminine side has gotten much stronger in later years - no doubt due to hormone levels changing. It does really help having somewhere I can at least express these feelings and thoughts.
I'm too hot to deprive the world of my dolled up self. I see it as some kind of public service.

As a young boy I was attracted to things feminine: dresses, high heels, makeup, pretty hair... It was only a matter of time until I had to "personalize" it. So, I dressed like a girl and I liked it. And the rest is history.....still being written, actually.

I'm pretty sure it stems from that time I was in a jam and sold my soul to Satan in order to get out of it. Ever since then I've been condemned to prance and mince and frolic around like a pansy. I'm not sure that becoming Satan's bitch was the best choice. But, at the time I wasn't really clear on the concept of eternity. Now I'm stuck with my decision. Oh well!

I really agree with this comment. In feminie clothes I feel far more relaxed and natural than in boys' clothing. It just feels more normal. I'm getting to the point now where I almost don't like to call the dresses and jumper skirts I like so much as being "female" clothing but just clothing.

At 73, surprisingly, the sexual buzz associated with selecting, buying, dressing up in and photographing myself in girly clothes remains. I also get that buzz sifting through photos and those of other younger more successful CD-ers.
There is also the comouflage issue. All dolled up in wig & make-up &c I look a good quarter of a Century younger, which I like. There is also the lovely feel of femme fabrics.
As I am not 'out' to anyone, this activity must remain strictly a private indulgence.
