So one of my friends called me "darlin" on a reply to my thread. And it was really cool. And another friend here routinely calls me princess, which makes me blush a little.

It's funny, those would be fightin' words in boy mode, especially in my youth, but comming from other CDs (or maybe anyone while I'm in girl mode) it's a huge compliment. One TS gal even jokingly called me **** at Halloween, and it didn't insult me (well a little, but..).

How do you take it if your called by feminine terms of address (other than standard colloquial relevant terms like Hun in the south.) Are there ones that you dislike? Are there ones that make you melt. Do they help complete your image?

Just askin' sweet pea ;)

I've not yet had that experience, said Willie the Shake.

I get called all sorts of cutsie names by 20 year olds out in the real world, I just wish I was 20 also.....

Hun, Dearie, Sweetie, Babes and others are words I do not like to hear in male or female modes. If a close friend says one of those, I take it as cute for that moment only. Many times I have politely corrected people, usually store sales clerks giving them my name or Mr. or Sir to be used instead. I heard it in my youth and didn't like it then either. They are just too personal to be used by a total stranger. They do not give me any sort of validation or momentary good feeling.

Meghan,
Going out to a social evening and being called Teresa was something I never thought would happen, it's so good to be accepted in that way !

I love it when others recognize my femininity and address it. I am who I am and it make me feel special.

I can't say that it is offensive, but I can say that it won't be reciprocated. The ONLY person that gets those types of names from me is my wife. I don't say those things to other friends or co-workers, and I won't say those things to anyone here. It's Not anything personal, it is just the way it is with me, I reserve that to my wife only. As for a general feminine pronoun, that is fine, her, or she, but I do not feel I need that either. I do often use the feminine pronoun here as it seems appropriate.

You can call me "Rose", that works. "Michelle" always works. "Miss Houston" would be very cool.

Actually, when out in the wild were somebody to call me anything but ma'am (e.g., honey, darling, etc.) I would feel 100% that I had not been clocked.

As far as endearments I'm all for them. Amongst my besties on this site I often use "Girl" or "Girlfriend". Nobody has objected yet; perhaps they're just being polite.

Hugs, Michelle

Ok this is good so far. Certainly there is a matter of familiarity involved, as well as regional and social convention, as well as personal preference. My wife told me last night she hates to be called Ma'am, but is ok with Miss. It's an age thing! And yes I'm sure there are some that I don't prefer either, like Missy. I think it largely depends on the perceived intent.

And I am probably at least a little supceptable to flattery in girl mode.

I'd like to hear more!

One of my filler lines between songs in my show:

"I met this guy at the bar and he asked if he could call me Princess. I said because of my regal demeanor? He said no. Because I am pretty like a Disney character? No...you remind me of my cocker spaniel"

One of my favorite people calls me Sugah

I was getting my makeup done at a salon last week for an event (I'm wasn't comfortable with doing it myself as it was my first time out in public). Half way through the girls in the salon started referring to me as "she". While not a term of endearment, it felt rather weird but nice as well.

In our part of th country, any of the above terms are perfectly acceptable, unless some foreigner has moved in from up north... J/k! But they are generally accepted as compliments and terms of friendship, nothing else. I love to be addressed according to presentation, and I never expect somebody to call me Sir, Ma'am, Mr. or Mrs. anything. I have always felt everybody puts their skirt on the same way I do, and it makes everybody much more comfortable.

My only exception would be when meeting somebody who is introduced as Mr. Or Mrs, or a new customer, but we are friendly folks, and usually get chastised for not using first names by the second or third time.
