View Full Version : TV shows that were a must see as a young crossdresser

These are the ones I have fond memories of:
First there was I Dream of Jeanie, wow what a figure Barbara Eden had. I loved all of the fashions from the time as well.
Batman, especially the episodes with Batgirl or Catwoman in them.
WKRP, Jennifer Marlowe, WOW.
Wonder Woman, what young crossdresser did not fantasize about wearing that wonderful costume of hers.
Last but not least would be Gilligan's Island. There has always been a debate over Mary Ann or Ginger, well for me it was definitely Ginger. I loved her wardrobe especially the long gold dress and the long white beaded dress. If she packed that much clothing for just a three hour tour I sure would like to see the rest of her wardrobe.
What shows were you drawn to?
Note: I did this thread about 5 years ago and it was fun so lets get a fresh take on it. I went by Suzy Satin back then, decided on a little more elegant online name.

In the 60's I loved the (Dean Martin Show)
Lots of gorgeous women dressed to kill!

Hi Suzy
Who can forget the original Charlie's Angels? In almost every episode, one of them would go undercover as the classy businesswoman, or debutante, or fashion model...or maybe attend a formal ball. All had bodies, hair, makeup, and wardrobe to die for...
The shows Dynasty and Dallas were amazing...elegant and classy outfits! Three's Company was a reliable source for pantyhose thrills. WKRP in Cincinnati had Loni Anderson usually in some sort of pretty outfit with hose.
Later came Married with Children...Christina Applegate would often sport pantyhose, heels, and short dresses--awesome! And who can forget Fran Drescher in The Nanny?
All heady stuff for a young crossdresser!
Cheers

I'm voting for The Dean Martin Show as well. All those luscious women seemed to be coming straight from the Playboy Mansion, dressed so hot!!
gun smoke with the laced up Miss Kitty ,
petticoat junction , always was on the look out when more corsets might e shown but never were
wild wild west , same reason.:daydreaming: there hotties were almost always in a corset
space 1999 hotties in skimpy bra less knit si fi outfits
any day time womens show's that might have Jane Russle showing off , but they got a lot less interesting the older she got
bat man writers must have loved "snidely whip lash" as a recurring theam to tie some one up on rail road tracks or giant table saws

Dukes of Hazzard Daisy of course.
Ellie Mae Clampett from Beverley Hillbillies.

Have to agree with Suit about Jane Russell....especially all the 18 hour bra and girdle ads she was in.
Leggs pantyhose commercials, I can't believe its a girdle ads.....
For tv shows, anything from the 50's or 60's.....
But the 80's were great with Joan and Linda on Dynasty.....
I wanted so much to be wearing those formal gowns or lingerie....
lol think Mr. Drys-dales "secretary " was such a skinny bag of bones or just so total tightly girdled in that 1950 60's style she had the shape of a size 0 ?
Bella on that old lawyer/cop show Perry Mason had a figure that was well kept too.
Benney Hill > can't forget the Girls ! with them Heee Haw short shorts

I can't believe I left Bewitched off of my list. Always watched it, loved the styles from that time.
Barbara Eden is my favorite though. If you have a few minutes watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFhshMtD7XI
It is an episode of Andy Griffith were she comes to town and sets of shop in the local barber shop as a manicurest. My favorite scene is at the end when she is walking away with a very pronounced wiggle while Andy and Barney watch with smiles on their faces. The opening scene is pretty funny with all of the guys in the barber shop gawking at her when she gets off of the bus.

I loved the Charlie's Angles jumpsuits and the glamorous Dallas/Dynasty outfits as a kid (also the Dukes of Hazzard girl), but Christina Applegate was the first time I realized I also wanted to be her.

Favorite two: Julie Newmar as catwoman or in any other appearance, and Jeri Ryan as 7 of 9 in Star Trek: Voyager, with her sprayed on costume. OMG, what fantasies those women caused this young person.
Edit -- Oh, and most importantly, Diana Rigg as Emma Peel in the 1960s "The Avengers".

I think you girls got them all covered for me already.. especially Wonder Woman who's outfit I recreated for myself when I was about 11 or 12 and would run around the woods in, deflecting bullets and making my dog/brother/inanimate objects tell the truth with my lasso! :heehee:
Oh, and Mrs. Peel from The Avengers. Gosh, what a gal!
(Went away to make coffee before posting and didn't see the above post with Diana Rigg in it! :) )

Of those mentioned here, of course Wonder Woman is an essential, it also was very female empowering, an added bonus! Dukes of Hazzard... I actually found Fame to be pretty great, the original from the 80's, I never watched the remake... There were a couple short lived series's like Models, Inc. that were good for just one season... A bit newer, but La Femme Nakita was pretty good for envious fashion...
Fun post!

Aside from how great those shows were...I always watched Cheers and Married with Children. The way Kirstie Alley and Christina Applegate both dressed was a true inspiration!

I liked most of those shows and the women in them but I don't recall it having anything to do with crossdressing in my case. Except maybe the glamour of Ginger?

That Girl! I was infatuated by Marlo Thomas. There was even an episode where Donald (her boyfriend) got dressed up to do a story about the police who dressed to catch purse thieves in NYC. I have to toss in Cheers for Shelly Long and Kirsty Alley.

I loved the original female Star Trek uniform and nurses outfits in a UK drama called Angels. Oh, and whatever female newsreaders were wearing, especially Anna Ford and Selina Scott when they came from behind the newsdesk to present on the comfy sofas of breakfast TV and you could see their classy outfits in full

OK, I grew up in the 70's and 80's - Shows like the Mary Tyler Moore show, 3's Company, Gilligan's Island, Wonder Woman, Dukes of Hazzard and Batman always caught my eye for fashion and legs.
The 80's was the start of the workout video from Jane Fonda and the like with leotards and tights being the norm, and I bought a few Danskin leotards and tights when I was high school from the local department store.
In the nineties, Ally McBeal caught my eye and I fell in love with the short skirt suit. Along with the fashion from Designing Women and Rachel from Friends.

I have to say that I loved all of the ones you mentioned Suzy. Pretty much for the same reasons as well. Also, Joan Collins in Dynasty. Loved the way they were all put together.
Suzy, looking at your avatar, I LOVE your classy look! You look marvelous!

I'm a fan of the Donna Reed show...a fifties kinda show...love the hair styles and the dresses she always wore on every show. Also the daughter Mary as a teenager with her pretty skirts, blouses, and sweaters. Girls and women were quite feminine in their appearance back then. Showing my age!
I also appreciate most of the other shows and women mentioned as well....good thread topic!
Gidget and Patty Duke; that was the life I thought I would be living.
Note the sad announcement yesterday of Patty Duke's death. May she RIP.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned Anne Francis in her TV series "Honey West" and can not leave out Anne in the sci-fi movie "Forbidden Planet". She definitely put the word "classy" in the dictionary. :daydreaming:
And one more, who could forget those undies and slips of Billie Jo, Bobbie Jo, and Betty Jo hanging from the side of the water tower in "Petticoat Junction". Even the dog had a pair of panties draped over the side. :heehee:
And may Patty Duke RIP, a great actress.

Electrawoman & Dynagirl from the old Sid & Marty Kroft. It only stayed on for a hot second in the late 70s but believe me I was all over it and could not wait for Saturday morning. I found a VHS of it a few years ago.

Mary Richards 70s wardrobe from Mary Tyler Moore was always one of my favorites. And yes Ginger and her gowns from Gilligan's Island were so sultry. I also loved Marcia Brady's short skirts from the Brady Bunch. And who could forget Cher's sexy gowns from the Sunny & Cher Show.

That Girl had an almost magical influence on me. I was sure I would grow up to be just like Marlo Thomas.
Pamela Sue Martin as Nancy Drew.
Cathy Lee Crosby was the first Wonder Woman and I adored her blonde hair.
Dynasty and Dallas both drove me crazy with the beautiful outfits and hair that all the women wore.

Well, there is Princess Jellyfish.
Plot summary copy/pasted from wikipedia summarized it better than I.
"Tsukimi hopes to become an illustrator and is an awkward girl terrified of social interaction, attractive people and the prospect of formal work. The other tenants of Amamizukan are the same, being NEETs who refer to themselves as the "Amars" (nuns). Tsukimi meets the stylish Kuranosuke Koibuchi, the illegitimate son of a politician, who cross-dresses to avoid the obligations of politics and to feel closer to his mother. Tsukimi keeps the secret of his masculinity from her man-hating housemates, even as she is troubled by the intimacy of having a man in her room at times. Amamizukan's surrounding neighborhood is under threat of redevelopment, as opportunists aim to turn the quaint area into a more cosmopolitan region, with many of the buildings being demolished to make room for hotels and shopping centers."
I dont know about a "must see," but I enjoyed it and it probably got the ball rolling for me. It was on Netflix at one point.

I just remembered one, I was pretty young but still remember it.......how about "Love American Style". Wonderfully short dresses and skirts from the late sixties and early seventies. Laugh In was always fun to watch for the same reason. Goldie Hawn at her finest.

I'd like to add Barbara Bain as Cinnamon Carter on the Mission Impossible TV show and Peggy Lipton as Julie Barnes of Mod Squad.
Perry Mason, or as I think of it, "The Della Street Show." Barbara Hale's character was the most well-put-together character of the era.

Here is one a little before my time. I am going to see if I can dig up a DVD or something. "How To Marry A Millionaire" Two seasons and fifty two episodes with Barbara Eden, Mary Anders, and Lori Nelson would be fabulous to watch. Here are the three stars (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SB4rJECr_SU/Tcfuz5VzuqI/AAAAAAAACKE/2S3E-kZ94Rk/s640/lorinelson10.jpg) reading what every self respecting millionaire hunter read, "Dun & Bradstreet".

I was too busy looking at the Sears catalog.
But if I had to pick a TV show, it would be a Saturday Night Live sometime in the mid 70s. Jane Curtin was doing the weekend update and ripped open her blouse to show her black bra.
That's my kind of TV!

I'm a little on the young side on here so my shows mostly come from the 90's
I really liked Alley McBeal. I loved her cute skirt suits.
I admired Rachel's style from Friends.
Saved by the bell always had some cute outfits.
The ladies on Spin City were always immaculately dressed.
I would watch Jenny Jones and Ricky Lake hoping there would be a show about crossdressing, drag queens, or transgendered women.

growing up, one of my favourite shows was three's company. I was extremely attracted to the outfits that janet, Chrissy, cindy, and teri wore. In particular Janet, in the later episodes she would dress up in skirt suits (like a professional woman), and for me that is probably where I started my fascination with professional woman outfits.

For me it was the old shows and particularly movies where the women wore peter pan collars and puffy sleeves. Lace, satin, all the girly stuff. I would imagine myself dressed in their outfits and still do!
Tribe ? ok that sort of explaines some of her look being just a little bit exotic compared to the rest of the crew

Wonder Woman!! OMG YES.
9 year old Amy obsessed over that show ... Of course the Wonder Woman outfit was rad,and I wanted one, LOL. But mostly it was Lynda Carter's "every day" looks ... That woman is 100% fabulous 100% of the time. Also she had a pet robot in an episode or two.
I wanted to be her so bad

It's just something about super heroines for me. As for WW, there were actually two different costumes associated with two different storylines. One was set in the WWII times and the other she was more current. One of her outfits wasn't as high cut. I was actually partial to that one lol. You know you must be CD to notice things like that:)
I still try to catch the great Lynda Carter every Saturday night on Me TV. For that matter, the original Star Trek after that. Who wouldn't want to travel the Universe dressed in standard issue USS Enterprise uniform?
T. Fonda

Love Boat... I once read that Aaron Spelling make the woman wear nude hose with shorts in his shows because it made their legs look better On tv.....DUUHH

The late, great Yvonne Craig as Batgirl in the 60's Batman show was my first girl crush. I wanted to be her, next to her and with her. My pulse raced and my breath taken away every time she entered into her secret closet. Her transformation, coupled with the jazzy theme music, always kept me transfixed. From cute and smart to strong, athletic and sexy; if only my transformations were as stunning.

Triva....Yvonne Craig was in Star Trek TOS........what episode was that and what character was she? Bonus points if you know what color her skin was.
Marta, in "Whom Gods Destroy." She was a green Orion slave girl.
As far as TOS uniforms go, I prefer Nurse Chapel's

I always passed by (rather than watched) Chinese period dramas as an impressionable youngster. Despite being mostly captivated by the intense and cheesily effected fight scenes of wuxia shows involving often itinerant martial artists, I later grew spellbound by the dresses worn by the women on screen especially the aristocrats and the dancers (although we are all beautiful when we dance, right?). No doubt many such cases are historically inaccurate at times, they were still beautiful yet delicate, sometimes even bordering on ethereal.
Probably something to this effect: http://www.china-cart.com/d.asp?a=Ancient+Chinese+Pink+Beauty+Costumes&d=22349

Charlie's Angels, certainly, all the ladies had such awesome outfits (not to mention hair). Suzanne Somers' wardrobe on Three's Company was also great. Pretty much any show from the 70s, which is when my fashion (and musical) tastes developed. Someone mentioned Laugh-In and Love American Style, which were a treasure trove of late 60s/early 70s fashion (Why can't they make things like that any more?) I remember repeated pausing the cocktail party scenes from Laugh-In to take in all the cool outfits. On to the 80s, the female guest stars of shows like MacGyver and The A-Team also had some nice things to wear. And how about Buck Rogers? What Erin Gray could do with a spandex catsuit shouldn't be legal. Sadly things seem to have taken a turn south after the 80s, the characters on newer shows tend to dress down more. At least the writing on TV is better.

As a young cross-dresser I did not have any thoughts about young girls' or women's attire. That was a period of self loathing. In the early sixties to the mid-sixties, which was my teenage years to be a cross-dresser was to be considered a homosexual man. The term 'gay' had not yet been co-opted by the homosexual community. For me it was the clothes. There were two men's clothing shops on the main business street. They were corner stores diagonally across from each other. In front of one was a bus stop. I would linger there and just plain drool over the mannequins adorned with undergarments; especially girdles.
But, as to the females I lusted or had 'impure thoughts' about, I loved Annette Funicello. I adored her as a Mouseketeer on the Mickey Mouse Club and then all the "Beach Party" movies.
