I found a place where I can get makeovers for local events, and I've been there a few times.

The last time I was there, one of the MAs (a black girl) mentions several times that she wanted to see how my wig would look on her.

She has long dark hair. As I was leaving, I told her that next time I came there, I would where a different wig, and let her try on my blond one. Then I told her that she would have to get a wig cap to put up all her hair. She said don't worry about that, I'm wearing a wig. Then she pulled up a corner of the wig near her ears.

I didn't realize that she was wearing a wig. If I had, we could have just switched wigs for a while. I didn't want to take mine off because I don't have much of my own hair left.

Wigs, hair extensions and weaves are quite common these days.
It seems black women don't like their own hair for some reason so they wear wigs a lot.
Black women can be very attractive in their own hair IMO but if they like weaves and wigs thats fine too.

I probably wouldn't share a wig with a stranger but that's just me.

Interesting comment, Tracii. Having grown up in a home full of black women, I can tell you it is much more about the painful maintenance required to style black hair so that it resembles that of women of European descent than it is about self hate. Every week, my sisters would get their hair burned "into submission" (straightened) The consequences for not conforming to western notions of beauty can impact the social life, love life as well as the pocketbook. We're pretty much all guilty of buying into the western standard of beauty. By the same token, not everyone can rock an Afro and look as good as Pam Grier did in the 70s. Weaves and wigs and extensions just make hair care more convenient from my perspective.

Cheers,

J

Jill I totally understand the maintenance aspect that black women have and their desire to look nice.
I don't have a problem with weaves, wigs and extensions at all.
I have spoken with my neighbor lady a lot and she has explained how hard taking care of her hair is.
She has a love/hate relationship with the natural hair so she wear wigs a lot.
Pam Grier always looked fabulous IMO.
My original statement was not meant in a mean way at all just a reflection of what my neighbor lady has told me.

Tracii, I love, love love you! by no means was I offended by your comment in this thread. Hope I didn't come off as being bitchy or rude, girl! I think you're the best!

Cheers,

Jill

Sounds like fun but it is probably not a good idea to share wigs with strangers. You never know if someone has scalp or other health issues. And other people may not take the same care that you do with your wig.
