So Popeye was my favorite cartoon character when I was a child. Bugs Bunny was a close second. Several years ago I think I read on this Forum that there was an old Popeye cartoon where Popeye is wearing a dress and says "I yam what I yam." I had looked for that cartoon several times over the years but to no avail. I came across an article on the web several days ago that discussed Popeye and his cross dressing habits. It seems it came up a number of times in the Popeye strips. There are several instances where he is dressed as a woman and says "I yam what I yam!" My hero! The best one was Popeye was caught dressing as a woman and his response was "I yam amphibious!"

I like that! I am amphibious too!

Cheers,

Eva D.

Hi Eva,
I had to smile and chuckle to myself when I read this.
I don't remember ever seeing Popeye dressing up but I always to it to heart when he said "I yam what I yam" when ever I felt deferent then the other kids.
And I never thought of Bugs as a CD. He dressed up often. Even as a kid I thought he made a seductive and sexy woman.
It's funny those cartoons made for kids had so many adult themes.

They had a special on (I think) PBS a few months ago about the old classic cartoons and how many of them originally written for an adult audience. I forget which one right off hand, but I think it was the Flintstones originally was geared to entertain adults and to encourage them to by Lucky Strike Cigarettes.

Daffy Duck was another comic crossdresser.
But Bugs Bunny had it down!

I can honestly say none of the crossdressing cartoons had any effect on me. Save one!

I saw just one Foghorn J. Leghorn cartoon that I couldn't forget. It probably touched a number of kinks in my young mind. Bondage, forced fem, etc. Maybe even dressing? However, it was another 40 years before I thot about women's things.

I experimented with rudimentary self bondage at a young age. And, dug further into it in my 20's.

In this story, Foghorn is run thru a machine. It renders him bound, gagged, and femanized. Completely helpless, his arch rival, the dog, marries him off to a chickenhawk. I often wonder who scripted this one?!

I have to agree with Kristyn that Bugs Bunny was a talented CDer.

Could be fun to know about the cartoonist behind the character.

I can remember a few Popeyes but it was Bugs Bunny that really sticks out as crossdressing a lot. Maybe I was influenced at such a young age mmmmmmm?

I remember bugs bunny and daffy duck being crossed and yeah I liked it and it made me feel I wasn't alone. It might be nice to see more of this in the later cartoons. Pretty funny at the time.

Unicorns. Every one of those taken out of context, None of those support being a crossdresser but were used to either poke fun at the community (which was deeeep in the closet then and other marginalized groups had the same same disparaging type type things placed in the cartoons) or the idea was that putting on a dress would fool some sort of hypersexed male image. In other words they were used to reinforce stereotypes

Lorileah is most definitely on to something there when you really sit back and think about. Especially when you consider that during the time period when these old cartoons were made crossdressing in public would land you in jail in most states.

When I saw those cartoons to me Bugs or Daffy were trying to get out of a tight situation.
Also I saw the humor of Bugs spoofing his adversary.
I never thought it was any more than that.
