Are you a man or a woman? If your a woman you'll want to fix that little
Problem of how the world sees you.

This is an oversimplification and I know it but I thought it was interesting. I watched a you tube video " Am I transgender" by a Non - Doctoral therapist. What she said - ' If you are watching this video then you're probably transgender" Very simplistic - Yes- but I thought it was kind of interesting in its simplicity.
I am editing this post because although I did like the statement that I referenced it is not a real answer.
As Rianna states 'see a reputable gender therapist'. I just started 6 weeks ago and I am already very glad I did. There are many reasons. Understanding yourself is most important. Finding resources depending on what path you want to take is another. It is also important to learn how to deal with these feelings and the confusion that occurs during self discovery. Everyone has a different path and they do not all lead to transition and a therapist does not put you on a certain path. It is their job to help you find your own path and find yourself.

Go to see a reputable gender therapist, talk out your issues with him or her. A good therapist should then help you to ask yourself the right questions to be able to answer that one.
I don't recommend the alternative that some of us took which is to wait until it becomes a choice between transition or die.

i guess most people are so confused and easily influenced that they need a specialist therapist. I don't hold with the idea, personally, I worked it out for myself. The specialist may be useful in knowing the pathways, chems etc, but it does not mean they have the best process for self-discovery.
So, you figure it out by asking yourself lots and lots of questions, by noticing your behaviours, thoughts and feelings, by comparing how you act/behave to males and females, by getting feedback from many people who have no real agenda with their answers.

Pam . . . you left out the fact that you are a therapist of sorts so you would be able to be a bit more introspective. I agree there is no rush to seek out a gender identity therapist if you are just questioning/toying with the idea. But if you are truly in a chaotic state of mind (BTDT got the t-shirt) a good therapist can help bring order to chaos and guide you down the path. Just because a person thinks they are TS does not mean they are and if you don't have the ability to be introspective . . . well just saying . . . you could make some life altering decisions which might not have been the appropriate choice.
So my take . . . some people know from the beginning and don't require a therapist to bring them to that decision others . . . need a guiding hand. Nothing wrong with that. :)
Cheers

oh yes, nothing wrong, just widen the "therapist" choice to more than gender specialist. Yes, "of sorts" will cover it :-))

Well, I've already died twice, so no problems there.
I do not believe I misunderstand myself or that I am confused about my own identity.
If I compare how I act to others? I'll need a specific example. Every one has an agenda.
I started this thread because it seems to me that one cannot be a TS, unless decided/allowed to be by others. Thus I wo nder what I have to do to convince every one.

Threads like this one does not help you in the least, you either know or not, No-one can allow you to be or decide for you if you are TS or not. This forum has had its fair share of "wannabes" and there is a now a natural reluctance to accept anyone who does not "share" their experiences and join in with the general topics that arise in the main TS forums.

Not sure what you mean by decided / allowed to be by others?
First, my opinion, don't look at it as being TS or transsexual. What is the point in that?
Are you a woman and do you need to transition to make that right in your life? Get your body and insides and life all in line for what you are. If your not sure, then you need to figure that out first.
We don't decide this for you, a therapist is not going to decide this for you. Only you can do it.

By GBJoker's own admission, this thread was not started looking honestly for answers. He has also recently posted in more than one thread that he is not transsexual. Thread over.
