Had business in North San Diego County on Saturday afternoon, and after finishing the necessary, I slipped into casual femme. Decided it was a good day to shop and make a payment on my store credit card, so headed over to the local Macys. (This is not an advertisement for Macys, however, I think as you read further you will know why I mention the store by name).
Did not have any makeup with me, so with only a light application of lipstick, dressed casual femme, anyone who took the time to look would know I was a crossdresser. Browsing the discount area of the women's department, I was approached by a smiling sales woman who proceeded to offer color and style suggestions, and talked about what was coming to the store soon. She was more than welcoming. I would say she was delighted to help, and made me feel very welcome in her store. A store style consultant walked by, and was quite engaging, insisting that only gold earrings would go with a certain top I was considering purchasing.
As she helped me other customers came and went, making their purchases as I hung items on the rack next to the sales counter. The senior sales person for the department arrived, as did someone from the shoe department, who was just stopping by to visit. I promised a visit to the shoe department once I was done.
"Do you want to dress more masculine or more feminine?" Certain items were left on the rack, and others purchased. Changed into a red top before leaving as she had had suggested "you need more color". Stopped by the shoe department on my way out, and had a wonderful conversation.
On Sunday I needed to return for business, and decided to take along the dress I had purchased, as well as my gurl gear so I could change into the more comfortable me when I had concluded the business part of my morning.
Revisited Macys, full en femme. Was greeted warmly in the shoe department, where we discussed casual vs dress shoes, and much more. She was delightful. Had a wonderful time.
Went up to the women's department, and the senior sales woman was there. She was delighted to see me, and thanked me for coming back to visit. She complimented me on how nice I looked in the dress I had purchased the day before, and on my shoes. Then, she took my picture. Several, actually. "We need some color in the background. Strike a pose for me. You look wonderful!"
Serendipity on Saturday and Sunday. Simply wonderful.
I do not know if it is a Macys corporate policy to be open and accepting of our slice of normal (as I prefer to think of us in our many varieties). I do know, however, that the sales staff at Macys located at The Shoppes at Carlsbad is friendly, open, accepting, encouraging, and helpful. I also know they hire and support those in this broader range of normal in which we dwell. Kudos, Macys.
I will be going back to see them when I can, both en femme and drab. If you are ever in the area, I encourage you to drop in for a visit.
Oh... one of the photos...
Hugs,
Lauren
