Rebecca,
All I can say is ouch ! Not a pretty sight !

I'm sorry you can't wear heels for a while, I had similar injury some time ago when I stepped on the side of a house brick it does take a while to recover, my only consolation was I didn't have any heels to wear when I injured my foot.

Did your accident itself involve heels?

I turned my ankle badly once trying to walk across my uneven and wet front yard in 6-1/2" platforms -- a really stupid thing to do, in retrospect. My foot looked a lot like yours afterward.

Nope...no heels involved. Stepped off of the second step. Thought I was on the first step. 3rd degree sprain, two torn tendons, and 3 tissue tears. The sad part is I just bought a fabulous pair of 5" black patent platforms, and I haven't even had a chance to walk in them yet.

As a nurse and with a sister-in-law who had a similar injury, do not even try to walk in those shoes until you are healed!!(not heeled) Seriously no less than two weeks but go by what the doctor says!!! Much sympathy!!! Gentle hugs Lana Mae

Oooww So sorry to see that Rebecca reminds me of when I did mine , and it was years ago now, I felt it swell before I hit the ground and I had to drive the lorry back to the yard to get help. At the hospital they put my ankle in a cast. Hope yours heals quick, those new shoes will wait. A good healer is a icepack on the ankle and a cold beer in the hand. Get well soon. Heather

Waiting for an ortho consult, and an MRI. Xray shows no break, but my anterior tibiofibular ligament is torn in two. My chiropractor, in consultation with my family doctor is advising me to walk kn it as much as I can. I have a nifty lace up brace that keeps my ankle immobile. Funny story. Usually my chiropractor adjusts my left hip, lower back, mid back, right shoulder and my neck. She has never had to adjust anything below mg waist. Well, upon noticing my silky smooth legs, she casually asked if I do a lot of cycling. I retorted, "nope, I'm trans." Without batting an eyelash, she said "well, no heels for you for a while". I love her to death. She is one kick a#$ doc.

Don't get cocky when you're feeling better, Becca.

I jammed an ankle in my 20's. It wasn't 1/10th as bad as yours. But, it affected me for a YEAR!

docrobbysherry is right Rebecca. I hurt my face playing the french horn quite some time ago. It was two years before I could play more than a second (literally) without reinjuring myself. Regaining my ability to play took another year.

This affects your mobility, heels or not. Do too much too soon and you may be stuck with crutches or a wheelchair for the rest of your life.

It sounds to me that a referral to a specialist in sports medicine would be a good idea if you haven't already seen someone with those qualifications. Chances are good you'll find someone in Halifax with a medical faculty at Dalhousie nearby.
