So after several major hurdles with the bank, the local medical community, and the Coast Guard, and a few rescheduling drills... I'm on the books to go see Dr. Zukowski in Chicago for FFS on November 17th. Barring any major issues with my pre-surgical screening, which I have no reason to think there will be, I'll be driving to Chicago on the 14th with my mom for 2.5 days of sightseeing and pizza, followed by 8.5 days of swelling, pain, and hopefully a successful procedure. I don't think I'll be doing much posting during recovery, but I'll try and report back as soon as I can.

This will be my first surgery, and my first permanent physical change as part of my transition aside from what hormones have done so far... I scared out of my mind, excited, and thankful its coming so soon so I don't have to worry abut it for much longer.

Wish me luck!!!

AHHHHHH!!!!

Hi Jane....just came up for air.....great news! You'll be fine. Yes it is scary, but wow, how exciting! Very short term pain (relatively speaking) for loooooong term gain. Like all else you have done along your journey, you've got this.....sending you hugs and positive energy. Will chat soon via PM.

So happy for you Jane. I know you will be happy. Know Dr. Z personally, and you are in very good hands. He can be rough or brusk at times, but he truly cares about his patients. His staff is first class and will make your stay as carefree as possible.

Hugs and Luck,

Barbara

So happy Jane. Hope all goes well for you.

Had a friend last week was to get FFS, checked in and doctors checked her out again. But she had a bout of Bronchitis and anesthesiologist said to wait. Now she doesn't know when she will get re-scheduled.

Jane, how are you feeling? How has your recovery been? I hope you haven't been under too much discomfort or pain.

It's been a little over a week, so if you're not already, I recommend going outside and taking 20-30 min walks every day. It'll help you to slowly get your energy back and you'll feel a lot better! :)

Swelling is still strong especially in my neck, but massage does seem to be helping. The worrst is despite sleeping elevated a night, I tend to swell the most overnight between 10pm and 6am. Pain meds and drinking lots of water also seem to be helping - it's just going to take time for my body to recover from THAT much trauma all at once... Just taking my pills as prescribed, doing massages , and trying to stay patient and positive as things heal.

Stick to the program, Jane. I'm seeing great progress in the lastest photo compared to the earlier ones! Miyra's advice to walk every day is a good one. I had three bouts of a Lyme's related reaction that put me in the hospital for weeks each time. My legs were not effected and I found walking a good way to take my mind off the problem and it made my recovery much easier. Moving is a great aid towards recovery. Good luck!

Day 22- house hunting in DC

Looks like you are healing well. A friend in area is also recovering from recent FFS.

Hope your house hunting goes well in DC. Prices can be all over the place, in town or out, some suburbs better than others. Working at Pentagon or elsewhere.

Might run into each other some day.
