Was at the barber earlier today. Pretty cool guy, in his 40's, been going to him for a few years now.
Ahead of me was an elderly customer. Had a cane -- and something was obviously wrong with his back & neck, kinda twisted & hunched over. Not sure what sort of condition he had, but it looked pretty rough.
The barber was really nice & helpful with everything, assisting the guy every step of the way & making pleasantries the whole time. Went the extra mile, from helping him up off the waiting chair & into the barber chair, all the way to opening the door for him on his way out.
Only me & the barber in there at that point. Maybe 30 seconds into the typical barber chat, and he makes a few comments about the elderly guy, including a "joke."
I ignored it, and instead shifted the conversation by asking if he knew what sort of medical/health condition he had, and mentioning that it must be pretty tough for him having to live that way 24/7, etc. The barber realized I didn't bite, and he quickly "covered" himself by saying this & that, blah blah blah.
I didn't really respond the way he was hoping. Perhaps a different customer would have laughed at the "joke" & maybe even made one of his own, garnering a good laugh from both? Who knows. I could definitely see that happening, though, with the conversation taking a much different turn than ours.
Afterwards, I couldn't help but think how this kind of stuff could relate to our public crossdressing experiences.
I mean, from the elderly gentleman's perspective from start to finish, it was nothing but positivity & awesomeness. Heck, even at the time, I noticed how well the barber was treating him. Quite the special experience!
But once he was gone & it was "safe"? Tsk tsk. Shame on my barber for that part.
Have to wonder how often that kind of thing happens to CD'ers when dealing with others out in public...
