Since I telecommute for work each day there was only 5 occurrences where I had to wear men’s paints, shirts and shoes. Those are the times when I had to go to a customer’s office or one of my company’s offices.
The rest of the year it was always, women’s paints/leggings, tops and shoes. I started wearing a bra more frequently to help create cleavage with my small boobs. As my hair grew out over the year, I went to the same hairdresser that my wife has been using and had my hair premed to have curly hair.
I think they biggest change was how I saw myself. When introduced myself to anyone new, I use the name Richi, a feminized spelling of the nick name I grew up with. I started to refer to myself using female pronouns. For example, when a waitress that my wife and I see all the time asked if we had any New Year resolutions, I said mine was to be the best wife I could be possibly be.
I told several former and current work colleagues that I am transgendered. When I had to stay over the weekend in the Boston area, I spent it at a coworker’s house as Richi for the full weekend. Since her husband had to work that weekend, we made the entire weekend a girls weekend. We even meet up for some shopping with a former VP at my company. Both of them were very supportive and even helped by pick out a new dress.
My wife’s attitude has also changed of the past year. She is more tolerant of how I chose to present myself. We both needed new pajamas. She asked if I was going to look at men’s pajamas. I told her no. She accepted (but did not like it) and then help me find two women’s flannel pajamas sets. However, there are still some restrictions on what I can ware in front of her. No women’s underpants and no skirts/dresses.
To all of you, may 2017 be as good to you as 2016 was to me.
