Well you know what I feel about "drab" but does anyone wear polish, and I do not mean clear in drab...
In my case transistioning I don't really care, and most people do not notice anyway...

Hi Mandy
I wear nail polish everyday, no matter what. Pink is my favorite color, so I wear either Pink Ice, Pink Buff, or Glitter Pink. These are all softer shades, I save the real bright stuff for when I go out dressed, but believe me, they are quite noticeable. This leads to an awful lot of talk about me at work, which I think is a hoot.
As a matter of fact, yesterday I was at the doctor's office, and the receptionist complimented my choice of color. We talked a bit about colors and such, and then I told her I was a tranny. Not only didn't she blink an eye, but we went on to have a little talk about tranny issues, she wanted to know about the surgery and things. It was a nice little chat, she was quite cool with it all, saying people shouldn't judge others...amen to that!

I suppose i could get away with wearing nail polish all the time being a student and...*sigh* slightly goth (I dislike that word these days). Only problem is i haven't found a colour i really like yet.

I've worn a pink of the sort you'd get in a french manicure kit, in drab. It's hardly noticeable except that there's no white part of the nail beyond the quick, as there usually would be. I think cashiers may notice it, probably no one else in ordinary daily life outside your home unless they've got a reason to be looking you over closely.

I have regular french manicures with pink being the main colour and nice white tips. I quite often get sales girls complimenting me on my nails which is lovely.

If I could manage those little thingies that protect the white part while doing the pink part, I'd be happy to go out in drab "french", but it's a skill that has eluded me so far!

I've gone out in drab "french" before a couple of times. My GF was even with me one of the times I went out like that! She wasn't thrilled though and was somewhat self conscious because of that. Oh well. Baby steps.

Funny you should ask. I've worn some all week and my wife just noticed today on the way home from work. I told her no one can tell, it's one coat of a purple/lilac OPI color called "Significant Other Color", and one coat is hard to see unless you are close. She said she could tell. I told her she couldn't, without looking close, because I've had it on all week and she just noticed:D

Get a bottle of DelSol Red nail polish. When your inside the polish will be clear, when you go outside into the sunlight, they will turn bright Red.

I'm not able to wear polish on the few times I need to be in drab but I keep my nails quite long and shaped. Believe me when I say I get more than a lot of comments on them, usually from cashiers. When it's a woman involved she's usually quite nice about it.

On my fingers I chicken out. I wish I didn't. I would love to wear nail polish all the time. I do on my toenails no matter what. Even barefoot my toe nails are bright pink. Just need more guts.

I keep mine in pink all the time. Very subtle shades, but they can be noticed. Never had any comments.

It isn't as bad as being tarred and feathered with the term "emo"...

My fiancee has two daughters, aged 16 and 14.
They frequently use me as a guinea pig for their make up experiments, so it's not unusual to find I get a manicure, pedicure, makeover or 'eyebrow tidy' when I visit their house.
By the nature of my work my hands are constantly visible, so clean neat (although longer than you'd expect) nails are a must.
My toenails are almost always varnished, and I have one of those buffing kits which make my finger nails look good all the time.

I had my first pedicure Saturday. Later my wife asked how I liked it and what color did I have my toes painted. I was kinda shocked, since she doesn't know about JoAnn (or at least I think she doesn't). I responded that the tech just put clear polish on. Wife said "you didn't want some color like RED or PICK or BLUE". I responsed "Didn't think about it". So I have decieded that once a month, I'm going to get a pedicure and the next time I'm going to have the tech put RED polish on and when I get home, I'm going to take my shoes and socks off and show my freshly color toes to her. :D

I think all of us are a little weird, in the good way of course.

Oh NO...I am proud that I'm a old ex-SPOOK. You be surpised at the looks and comments I get when at a gathering or party and it becomes knowledge that I used to work in Military Inteligence and the CIA. Boy the conversations that pop up and questions that I get. In fact one day at a Xmas party, a friend of ours said "I would love to know what you know, but you would have to kill me if you told me.".. I just looked at him, laughed, and said "YEP".

I have a weekly nail appointment, where I get polished (from French to red), and I always go en drab. I usually wear the polish almost all weekend, I then take it off before work on Monday...

JoAnn - I am confused, I thought I remember reading all about your first pedicure back in November, now you say you just had it this Saturday? And don't you have acrylic nails that you get filled all the time anyway? I would think your wife would have to know :)

DanaJ.... your right, I did have my first pedicure last year. Guess it's been too long. LOL I have real bad nails and it was my wife back last year that suggested I get acrylic nails. Also I deal with very small electronic parts and sometimes it is easier to pick them up using your figure nails. I was still shocked at what she said Saturday, so just to push the Envelope more, the next time I get a pedicure, I'm going to get RED nail polish on my toes. I Properly will get the old roll the eyes bit as she was properly kidding me, but we will see.

I'd love to, but I haven't gotten up the nerve to do it. I've never painted my nails myself before, so I'd like to find someplace reputable to have them done. A bigger problem is that the colors or designs I'd really like would all be quite noticeable.

I wore nail polish quite a few times before transition. When I did, the people at work downstairs (who didn't know beforehand) weren't that suprised. Apparently, to them, the nail polish was a dead giveaway (except to one girl who assumed I was a goth), but they just talked amongst themselves and assumed it was a 'hobby'. Yes, they really did call it a hobby.
Just my observations, for what it's worth, that people 'think' things even though they don't say them to you.

A "hobby", LOL!
"Yes, I tried building model ships, but it just didn't bring me the peace I was looking for."
About people "thinking things".... yes, I know. I've worn pantyhose in public with shorts many times, and sometimes feminine shirts. I usually wear feminine jewelry. (All of this though I've never tried to pass as female. Just being me.) So what's my problem with painting my nails?? Beats me. Just an irrational mental block, I guess. One I'll get over with sooner or later, I'm sure.
Edited to add: I thought of one possible influence on my state of mind about this:
If I'm going to the trouble and the expense to get my nails done, it would be something I'd want to keep for awhile. It's not like clothes where I can just leave if things get too "whatever" and go home and take them off. I'd have to live my life for several days or weeks or what have you with them painted. Maybe the inability to "run away from it" if I feel the need to is making me hesitate.
Excavating all the dark corners of one's psyche is not fun. :(

NOW if I could just keep them from braking off all the time, seems like every time I get a bit long I brake them.

Just got back from the doctors office. We went for her 2nd consultation on an urelated thing. Anyway, I have mine done in a glamor length bright red and nobody said anything.
After we went to buy shoes for me and out to dinner and it all was without incident.

I've tried several shades of my daughter's polish for the weekend when she and my wife are out of town, but when they are home I limit it to clear. If anyone has noticed it at work they have not said anything, however, except for lunch, I may not have anyone come close enough to notice anyway. My wife and daughter can spot it though because I like to put on several coats to get a real high-gloss finish. If I could find a transluscent enough color, I would wear it in public more often. Can any of you girls recomend any barely visible colors.
Love ya lots,

I saw these cool nail appliques at the drugmart. An adhesive plastic film which you apply over your nail and trim. They come off easily, and look better than polish and are not as tacky as press-ons. So I thought, as I looked at my electrical toolbox one day "I wonder if I could do the same thing with some of that red electrical tape?" With some practice.....yes I could. I just cut a short strip, land it on the nail in question, use a fine marker to outline around the cuticle, trim with maincure scissors and press down the edges! Works on toes and fingers and comes off super quick without a fuss and that telltale polish remover smell.

I switched to acrylics and am very pleased with them. They are much smoother than my real nails and only added a small amount to my regular manicure/pedicure cost.

I've found the shade of pink that comes in french manicure sets (the "set" packages together a bottle of pink, a bottle of white, and guides for the tips of the nails) to be one of the most subtle colors. And it matches my fur!

I wear red nail polish all the time in male mode and don't get any negetive comments. This suprises me. I even have had 1" acrylic nails with red polish and not many commented on it wile in drab.

I mix three colors (beige, white & clear) to get a color that isn't noticable in drab, yet "I" can see on my fingers.
