Just Like a Woman

Not a movie but in season 2 of Twin Peaks David duchovny plays an FBI agent who shows up dressed like a woman, wig and all. The only mention of it is agent cooper saying "you're dressed like a woman?" And he says " yes, for now." And that's it, it's never mentioned again and he's treated like any other person. It's great.

Triple Echo is one of my favourite films, there is also Breakfast On Pluto with a superb performance by Cyllian Murphy. An obscure British film called Goodbye Gemini is worth checking out too.

I have Triple Echo on VHS tape. It's a bit of a rarity, took me years to track it down.

A more recent movie (on Blu Ray) that I like is a German film called Rubbeldiekatz, sort of a variation on Tootsie, very fun and recommended.

Other VHS rarities that I have are Operation Fred, a.k.a. Our Miss Fred, a British film starring Danny La Rue, and the sci fi film Synapse, a.k.a. Memory Run which isn't a crossdressing film really, involves a cross-gender surgical body/brain swap. And of course, Just Like A Woman.

Neither movie nor television, but radio. Radio 4 broadcast a comedy, called The Change, from 2001 to 2004. It starred Christopher Ellison, who played tough DCI Burnside in The Bill, as transvestite who comes out to his wife played by the late Linda Bellingham. I think some episodes are currently available on BBC iplayer.

Now another question for the slightly older U.K. Girls. There was a black and white tv show about a young man who worked in a bank and comes out as a cross dresser. There is a scene where a priest is called in to council her but says he can't help and leaves quickly because she is not a cross dresser but transgender Anyone remember this?

There's one film called Man on High Heels, it's korean and it's about a badass cop who wants to become a woman. There's also one called Der Samurai (i didn't see it) which is about a cop (again) chasing a crossdresser w/ a katana. As i didn't see the last one i can't say if it is good or not but i liked the korean one. The rest is up to you :)

I stumbled over this one on YouTube and I'd agree with Diane. It was really good.

A couple of months ago (about the time I saw that episode of Accused) i came across a short film that absolutely sweet but for the life of me I can't remember the name. It's set in Singapore if I remember right in present day. A young adult male puts on women's clothes and applies makeup then heads out. He begins asking people, just random people if he can take a picture with them. He goes through a series of other things that he does as if kind of checking off a list. SPOILER ALERT.

At the end he goes to see a young woman, you assume his girlfriend in the hospital. She doesn't remember or know who he is but he shows her a video that they made together. In it you can see her saying something to the effect of, if she begins to lose her memory to show her this video. Oh. And he has to dress like a girl and wear makeup and get his picture taken with random people and as you can see from what I wrote.... he did it. For her. Awwww.

I remember a movie that was on youtube in segments about a man and a woman getting an electrical shock and it switched their bodies. She had to live his life and he had to live hers. I don't remember the name and I didn't watch it all because watching on the computer and finding the next segment was awkward.

I guess it wasn't really about crossdressing but the concept is a fantasy of mine.

Dressed to Kill perpetuates some pretty pathological TG stereotypes, that we're all potential psycho killers, and Mascara is pretty much universally panned critically other than as a campy example of sleazy Eurotrash exploitation of TG titillation, so I'm not surprised that they're not on anyone's hot list. I see enough poor media treatment of TG issues and characters in real life.:2c:

I am a huge fan of the film - The Skin I Live In with Antonio Banderas - a superb film and a great story line. I also have the book on which ot's based which is good but a bit darker. P.S. Not for anyone who can't cope with subtitles.

I just finished watching the 6 episodes of "Boy Meets Girl" wow what a show, only gripe I have is that it only lasted 6 episodes, I think it could have gone on for a few seasons even if there were only 6 episodes each season.

I remember seeing one on either Netflix or amazon prime called something along the lines of Killer Drag Queens on Dope. I really don't remember much about it apart from it being pretty poor, but it may be something to watch after a few drinks (or indeed dope if that's your thing). If it's still there, of course! Like I said, don't expect a masterpiece!

I haven't seen the film yet, but "Confessions of a Womanizer" is getting a lot of attention, particularly because the actor Kelly Mantle, who plays a transgender prostitute in the film, is genderfluid and was nominated for an Oscar as both Best Supporting Actor AND Best Supporting Actres.

Also, shouldn't every John Waters film featuring Divine be on the list? I see "Polyester," "Hairspray," and the incredible documentary "I Am Divine," but where's "Mondo Trasho," "Female Trouble," "Multiple Maniacs," and of course "Pink Flamingos?"

Finally, Allison's post reminded me of an extremely emotional music video released recently by Arcade Fire for their song "We Exist." I loved the song the second I heard it, but when I saw the music video, it brought a whole new dimension to it that was so hard hitting that now I can't even listen to the song without getting chills.

Gun Hill Rd. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1525838/ Gun Hill Rd is a trans movie from the Bronx. I lived near there.
Transfixed- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0284573/ Transfixed is a gritty film in typical French/Belgium style. Drugs, Murder, you know the rest.
Wigstock- Although a documentary, it's still a trans movie. I knew some people in that film.
I guess also almost any Andy Warhol movie staring Candy Darling or Jackie Curtis.

"Breakfast on Pluto" is about a transwoman growing up in Ireland and England. Not many have seen it, but I like the way the protagonist is portrayed sympathetically, not campy or in a negative way. I found Priscilla and Fong Woo, showing CDs as drag queens, hard to relate to.
