Well girls, I did it. I dressed up as Scarlett and went out to the mall, Walmart, the Ross store, and lastly the Taco Bell drive through on the way home. I know I'm extremely limited in the number of words I can write with this post and that I can only post one photo which is really sad in this case because I have so many stories to tell and about 150 photos that were taken!
My night out as Scarlett was so much fun and everyone I came in contact with was so kind, sweet, considerate, caring, helpful, and funny! I went in the food court door of our mall and made a bee line to the Sephora makeup store. I almost chickened out and left my Nikon D3100 in the car but I sure am glad I brought it with me because I had no idea what kind of a wonderful photo shoot I was getting myself into!
I was greeted by a sweet little girl (by the way, I've got the names of everyone I came in contact with but don't think I'm allowed to tell you girls their names) who I immediately told her I was a little nervous because this was my first night out as a girl named Scarlett. I told her I was a cross dresser and she told me, "Girl, you look better than 90% of the girls who shop in our store and don't be nervous. We have one of our male employees that dresses up as a girl half of the time he comes to work and looks fantastic as a guy or a girl." I knew I was in great shape right after she laid that bit of friendly news on me. I talked to her for a while and then I wanted to get an extremely honest feedback from her about my makeup and outfit and all of the rest Scarlett had put together for the evening. She said I looked fantastic and that she wouldn't change a thing. Then I asked her if she would take some photos of me with my camera to prove to the rest of the girls I know that I had proof of my bold first night out. She said sure and that she had a camera just like mine and knew how to take really good photos. I had hit the jackpot. I asked her if she wouldn't mind getting in some pictures with me along with the rest of the crew working that night. It was 8 o'clock and the place was empty so next thing I know, I'm in a photo shoot with the sweetest and most kind sales girls in the mall! I got numerous photos with all the girls in Sephora and we just laughed, talked, and had a blast making all of the photos. I then asked all of them as a group for no kiddin' honest feedback as to the job I did putting myself together - makeup, outfit, and everything else. All of them told me I was adorable and so pretty and that they wouldn't change a thing. The manager told me I might be able to use a little more contouring under my cheek bones up at an angle toward the bottom of my ears. I new I had gone light with the bronzer on the contour job I did and I'm glad she noticed and gave me the only improvement idea for my future makeup jobs. I asked her about the use of other colors of eye shadow with the color of my eyes. She said to come on in and we could experiment with as many colors as I'd like next time in! She was really sweet as well as the rest of the whole crew. On the way out I thanked them for being so sweet and honest with me and that I would definitely be back!
Next up was Victoria's secret. Got the same more than welcoming treatment from the young man and girl in there as I did in Sephora. The young guy told me he wished more folks had to guts to come out like I did last night. He told me not to be nervous and that he has done a lot of cross dressing as well so just relax and have a great time. I wanted to buy the two top fragrances in the plastic bottles with over 8 ounces in them. He was really nice and sprayed the top five one at a time on those thin white squares of cardboard used for smelling each fragrance. I chose "Gorgeous" and "Goddess" and both were off the chain sexy! When he rang the fragrances up it came to a total of just over $16 bucks for both of them combined! After the sale, he said, "I see you have a really nice camera, would you like me to take some photos of you while your in the store?" I said sure, let's do it! So my next photo shoot was on. After we did a session in the fragrance area he said, come on, let's go into the panty, bra, and lingerie areas and take some sexier shots so off we went for another 15 or so photos!
Then to Walmart to buy another couple of pairs of my favorite shear to waist Hanes black tights. No problems whatsoever and went through the self checkout line.
Then I went to the Ross store looking for another skater skirt. None were available but I found this killer makeup brush kit for less than 10 bucks and headed for the checkout. No one was in line and an elderly lady was ringing me up when I told her this was my first time out in public as a cross dresser and my name is Scarlett. She said, "Girl, I would have never known you weren't a girl. You look fabulous!" I told her that I bought my skater skirt I was wearing in that very store about two weeks ago and she said the entire outfit was adorable!
Then at Taco Bell the girl told me at the window that I was the prettiest and sweetest customer she had had all night! I drove home on cloud nine and then set up the camera on the tripod on the outside of the house and took photos around 11 pm of me leaning up against my wife's sexy white Honda couple I had taken for my ride that night.
Girls, bottom line, the whole night was incredible and went so far above my expectations, I just can't put it in words. I am so happy that I can break ground in this conservative part of the country for the rest of the girls. Can't wait to get out again as pretty Scarlett..Thanks for reading my fun post of my first night out. Hope it encourages others to make that big step as well!....Sincerely Scarlett

You look great. Glad all the SA's in the stores were so friendly. I get out a fair amount but nevere have had the courage to hit Victoria's or Sephora. I will definately hit a Sephora next time. I still don't know if I could enter VS.
You go girl
Scarlett -- that is so awesome! Congratulations on a great night out and best wishes for many more to come (and they will -- the cork doesn't go back in the bottle. ;) ) I'm so happy for you!

Thanks so much, Sallee, for the compliment. Administration removed my three photos. The rules are really strict on this site. The should have left at least one up! And I could not have accomplished what I did without a lot of coaching from one of my girls on the forum.. She did a great job coaching me up before the big night out!
- - - Updated - - -
Thanks M for the nice compliment! I had fun sharing my story. I just wish administration would have left the photos up to encourage others!
- - - Updated - - -
Thanks a bunch, Joni. Sad administration deleted the photos. I think they might have encouraged others to be brave! Thanks for telling me I looked terrific. All the folks I came in contact with were so kind, considerate, and complimentary as well...
- - - Updated - - -
Thanks Connie. All the nice sales associates who I talked with were so welcoming and were really praising me for having the guts to come out and visit with them. I had a great time in each store I went into and everyone was fabulous. They all told me they wouldn't change a thing as far as the entire outfit and makeup!
- - - Updated - - -
Thanks, Jamie. Too bad administration removed the photos. I would have hoped they could encourage others to be more brave and give the public outing a try! Thanks for complimenting my photos. That's one of my favorite outfits!
- - - Updated - - -
Thanks Beth. I knew you were going to send something nice. Too bad administration removed the photos. I put them up in another area on this forum in the next couple of weeks. I see others post multiple photos, but when I try it, it never passes administration...Any tips!

Thanks so much for the compliments, Beverly...It's Scarlett instead of Sarah but that's a simple mistake. Wish they would have left the photos up! Thanks for such positive feedback!

Thanks, Kelly. I was so happy and the people out there in the mall were so fun to be around and wanted me to come back often. Wish they would have left the photos up to show the girls on this forum just how happy I was and how much fun I had. It could have encouraged others to possible go public!
- - - Updated - - -
Thanks so much, Leigh. I knew I would get something positive and encouraging from you. You are always so sweet. I had a blast and tried my best to paint a picture with words about how much fun I had and how well I was accepted by all. So many compliments from all I came in contact with and so kind and considerate. Can't wait to go out again, but my wife only goes out of town on business twice a year!

Kandi, you couldn't have summed it up any better when you said, "It takes balls to be a girl", and it did! When I walked in the door to the mall at the food court, I was literally shaking in those cute booties I was wearing! I did what you told me to do and that was go in smiling and don't ever stop. And that's exactly what I did and things couldn't have gone any better for me. It was fun, sexy, exciting, easy, and I had a real blast wherever I went. You have to wear that smile, throw those shoulders back and be proud of who you are! I just couldn't have accomplished this night without all of your advice and tips. I put it all together and it worked. I can't thank you enough, Kandi. Wish administration would have left my photos up to help others to feel like getting out and giving a public appearance a whirl!

Thanks, Meghan. Wish I could go out once a week now. Had a blast!

Thanks Julie...Administration deleted the pics. So sad. I posted them to help encourage others to go public!

Thanks, Alice. I read your posts all of the time and always respect what you have to say! You look amazing as well! That's what I was going for - simple, cute, kinda sexy in a conservative way with class. I couldn't have imagined things to go so well my first time out. When the manager at Sephora told me I looked better than 90% of the girls who come into Sephora to shop, that really helped to build up my confidence. All sales associates and I had a blast and we laughed and had much fun during each photo shoot. I almost chickened out and left my camera in the car. Really glad I had the guts to take it along with my purse! Kinda sad administration deleted the photos. Was hoping to encourage others who haven't gone out in public to get dressed up and go for it. The rules on this site are really restrictive!

Thanks for sharing Scarlett, you look gorgeous!! You had an amazing time and I can tell you, you will still cherish the memory in 10 years time, I know I still do!! ... I can so relate to what you said "the whole night was incredible and went so far above my expectations, I just can't put it in words"
Well done girl!!

Hugs right back atcha, Lana Mae...It just simply could not have gone any better for me. I smiled, talked using my regular voice, laughed, and also asked for honest feedback wherever I went. The lady checking me out at the Ross store told me I was the prettiest girl to come in the store all night. She said she would have never guessed I was a guy. Then I told her that her Ross store was where I bought the skirt I was wearing and I loved some of the clothes they sell in there. I bought a super set of makeup brushes for 10 bucks in there. I'm learning so much on makeup videos on Google how to use these different type of brushes. I use everyone of them to apply, smooth out lines, and even help to line my lips with a brush after putting on the lipstick. It's amazing how you can perfect the lipstick lines with a very small makeup brush. So sad they deleted my photos!
- - - Updated - - -
Mikayla, you look gorgeous. Get out there and give it a go. If I can do this, anyone can. Kandi told me how friendly and accepting everyone would be and it went well beyond my expectations.
- - - Updated - - -
Becky, I wish I could go out every single weekend, but my wife only goes out of town on business twice a year so it may be 6 moths before I get out again. I certainly hope not. Thanks for telling me I look gorgeous. So many other folks told me that in person that night! And you're right, I'll never ever forget this night and will cherish the memory forever! Sad administration deleted the photos. They needed to keep them up to encourage others to go out for the first time!

Thanks for much for such a wonderful compliment, Jackie. Too bad administration deleted the photos to let others know how much fun I had and where I went! XOXOXO right back atcha Richelle. I couldn't have imagined having more fun! I was nervous at first and that lasted about five minutes in to my meeting with the girls at Sephora. I told them this was my first time out and they all told me how pretty I was compared to the rest of most customers who shop in there. We had and blast and they didn't want me to leave after the photo shoot but I told them I wanted to go to another couple of stores before closing! Victoria's Secret was my next stop and had a pile of fun there!

Thanks to all you girls out there...Sincerely, Scarlett

Great question Paula and before I answer your question, I'd like to thank you so much for the compliments on my presentation, skirt, and natural look. And also the fact the you said I looked like I could be an SA at the store in the pic. From the way things with the manager and sales associates at Sephora, I think they would hire me as Scarlett and help girls with their makeup skills. I still have a lot to learn and I'm always learning something new on makeup application from the pro videos on line when I Google makeup application videos. It really takes time to get accomplished in the area of makeup application and when you watch so many different videos, there are so many different ways to arrive at the same look. It's just a matter of preference. Such as using sponges, brushes, pads, etc. Every single girl seems have her own unique way of applying makeup. You can tell that I try to keep it simple. A lot of girls who are in the CD area go overboard with applying either too much of some type or types of makeup. Or just not having the knowledge on how to apply what, when, in what order, and how. It's really complex when you watch the videos and peel back the onion on how to apply makeup.
Now, to answer your question on what took so long to go out. I had been in the closet for so long, I had a huge reservation of going out in public. I just didn't have any idea of how I would be received. I live in an extremely conservative area of the southeastern United States. This ain't exactly San Francisco or Bourbon Street in New Orleans or Las Vegas Nevada. So if I went out as Scarlett and someone somehow noticed if I was a guy in girl's clothing if I would get followed, or beat up in a parking lot, or have something inconsiderate or rude said to me. I just had no idea that I would be welcomed with open arms wherever I went. I honestly thought that the only place I might be able to go dressed as Scarlett was an LGBTQ bar which I only have one of those within 20 miles of my house and when I read the reviews of the place, I still wasn't comfortable knowing where cross dressers fit into the LGBTQ community. It sounded like from reading posts on this forum and from other readings else where, I am reading that cross dressers may be the least accepted of the bunch and I just didn't understand why. I would love to hear from you on this very important matter. Based on your number of posts on this forum, I think you might have some very valuable information as to where cross dressers fit in to the LGBTQ crowd if all and how we are treated by any or all categories of folks out there.
Now my outing may have been an anomaly or an outlier. I might have just gotten lucky as to the people I met with and had such a wonderful and comfortable experience! I just don't know, Paula. I'm really sure things differ based on where you live and the places you go within that area. Give me all the answers and advice you can spare. I am all ears when it comes to learning about cross dressing and more public appearences. I'll invite and respect all you have to say on these matters..Sincerely, Scarlett

Thanks so much Miss Secret. You look very sexy and fabulous in your Avatar photo. My post and photos (which were deleted by administration) were meant to give encouragement and confidence to others who haven't gone out in public to go for it. I had one of the best nights of my life! Thanks so much for your compliment on my look!..Sincerely, Scarlett
- - - Updated - - -
Thanks so much Emily. I am really looking forward to your post telling us how things went with your first night out. I didn't fake a female voice and told most everyone right up front that I was a cross dresser and my name was Scarlett. I also told them what my name as a guy was as well. I held nothing back and wanted to be totally up front and honest with everyone. I also wanted some real honest feedback from everyone I came in contact with as to how I looked as Scarlett. Most everyone said honestly that I looked fabulous and they wouldn't change a thing. That the makeup and outfit was cute and sexy too. Only the manager at Sephora said I could have used a bit more bronzing to contour my face a bit more. She's right and I did go light on the bronzer to contour my face. I just didn't want to overdo any of my makeup and look as professional and as well put together as I could. I never want to look like a drag queen in a parade on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. I don't want to be noticed that way. My goal was to be seen as a well dressed, classy, and cute lady out shopping. I think, based on all the feedback from everyone I came in contact with, I pulled it off...Thanks a bunch...Sincerely Scarlett

I just saw your related photo thread. I don't know how I missed this wonderful story earlier!
I'm glad to hear that you had so many great experiences everywhere you went! I also think it's a little funny that I went to the same stores in my mall (Sephora followed by Victoria's Secret) the first time I went out. I guess it's because they're both decidedly feminine stores that it just makes sense to visit them?
As I'm sure you'll find, going out becomes veeeeery addictive once you take that first plunge. I'm looking forward to reading about your next outing. :-D
