Upcoming Night Out

I have a upcoming night out with a male friend who is also a crossdressor. He wants to dress as a man, and take me out to a very nice dinner. I've been out many times, but usually dress casual, at my best I'll wear a skirt, sweater, and boots, but sometimes just jeans sweater and flats. For this, I want to buy a nice Cocktail Dress, in black, just below the knee. Problem is, I am almost 6ft tall, 180lbs. A 14 fits me perfect in dresses, but for this i think I need a 14T, as I want the dress just at, or below the knee. When I wear 14 women's, the hem comes above the knee. I am mid 50's, so I want to dress accordingly. I like Dillards, but they do not carry Tall. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I'm a six footer. My problem with dresses, and, I only wear dresses, is length. Most misses dresses are made for the average woman who is five foot seven. I totally have to shun dresses with a defined waistline. If the dress is made for the average woman and has a defined waist, then it looks terrible on a tall woman. My solution has been to wear dresses without a defined waist such as empire waists (gathers under the bust), wraps and sheaths. As to the length I check out the "midi" lengths which for the average five foot seven woman runs several inches below the knee. However on a six foot woman it usually falls just below the knee.

I've bought many dresses through the JC Penny site. Most e-commerce retailers and eBay sellers will indicate the length of a dress from the shoulder seam down to the hem. You should be able to determine the length you prefer.

Do you have the retailer Next in the US? They carry a tall range from leggings to dresses through to coats.

Thank you. Definitely no dress with defined waist. I was curious about the Midi Length when I was looking at a few at Dillards. I'll try Penny's as well. Being that he is taking me to an upscale restaurant, thats somewhat private, and picking me up, I thought for once I would be able to pull off a nice cocktail dress. I'm 6ft and 180, so on the thin side...

So I have a few other dresses picked out. In addition, I am wearing black hose, so I would assume dress sandals are out (no hose with sandals???), and I should wear some type of pump, slingback (open or closed toe).

I bought this one tonight, in seize 14 (other dresses and skirts fit me fine in 14, as my waist is a 33-34) and IIRC, I wear a 44L in men's suits. I liked the style, as it just hung from shoulders with no defined waist, but the it was very tight under the arms due to my shoulders. I have another 14 and it is just fine thru the shoulders. I am thinking a 16 would be like a large tent.....thoughts?
