I was thinking a few weeks ago of throwing a birthday debutant ball with a twist: everyone mys swap genders! Girls in suits and guys in gowns. I figured it would be a safe way to crossdress in public without outing myself. All my friends would think it's a gag theme party! Also, given my birthday is only a few days after Halloween it makes sense to do a costume party. What do y'all think?

It could work or it could be totally transparent what you're trying to do. I don't know you or your friends well enough to know how people are going to react. At the very least this could turn out to be a giant inconvenience to your guests. I'm sure most of the women you know don't have men's suits that fit and the men don't have gowns. And being right before Halloween you're essentially asking people to buy ANOTHER costume. I would suggest instead you simply throw a costume party and find someone to do your couples costume idea with.

Perhaps if you have a female significant other push the suggestion? Also, as Micki_Finn suggested, the gowns/suits approach may be difficult. Maybe leave it open to whatever dress of a different gender so long as it's not their usual. You can then wear a gown and all the trimmings if it pleases you.
Good Luck!

If I was invited, I'd know exactly what you were up to. If it was GG throwing such a party, it would be a little less obvious.

Luckily I have a friend who was going to crossdress for Halloween so he won't be suspicious and I'm know for doing things abnormal. It's right up my alley to suggest something that would make people uncomfortable. You are right about the cost issue though but this is an idea right now

Sounds like being invited to a wedding. Except there, the guys don't have suits that fit and the women have to go buy single-use dresses. ;)
The idea sounds like pink-fevered fantasy to me. But it's your show. Good luck.

It would be heaven to slow dance with my wife cheek to cheek while en femme

Might be a very interesting party, I'd certainly only invite outgoing couples that are fun loving and would participate. Also might have to teach a bunch of today's couples how to waltz .... Lol
I also agree with Micki might want your wife to get the party together.

I can teach that. I am self taught via martial arts

I know this idea is a little risky and unrealistic but hey most fantasies are :)
