Hell-o All,
So a GG friend of mine is helping her father
move outa his house. While she was sorting through
the leftovers, trying to figure out whether to donate
them, or send them out with the trash, she came across
a 32" flat screen TV. It was used, but tucked back into
it's original box, and taped shut. I told her I'd take it, and
I drove to her dad's place to pick it up. I put the box in my
truck without even looking at the TV.
When I got it home, I opened the box and found her dad
had used some of his daughters left behind clothes to repack
the box.
In all there were three dresses, a skirt, and one awesome
Mickey Mouse blanket!
Of course all these dresses were waayyy to small for me, EXCEPT ONE!
Knowing my friends mother had somewhat recently passed away,
I had to text her and thank her for the TV, and the clothing was
a great bonus!
She had no idea of the clothes inside, and asked what was inside the box.
I sent her photos of the dresses, and the skirt, along with label names, and sizes.
She replied with how impressed she was with the fashion info I had provided
Like I went above and beyond her expectations.
Anyway...it turns out the clothes belonged to her sister, and her sister only
wanted the skirt. OMG! It was hideous!, but her mom had bought it for her.
So that leaves three dresses! (And an awesome blanket!)
One will fit me, but the others are quite small size 0, and size 4.
I'm guessing the one that'll fit me ( sized med.) must have been moms.
I don't know mom, never met her. Would it be wrong to keep it?
And what to do with the 2 itsy bitsy dresses???
Anyone want them?
The floral one is JCrew size 0. It's a really nice dress with
a built in bra. Then there's the red one, it's from Express and a size 4.
The yellow one I'm considering keeping is from Alyn Paige.
Whatdayathink? Can I keep it?

I'd love to hear if anyone else has had this sorta thing happen?
What did you do?
Much Love,
Kristyn

You have basically two options . Give them to a thrift store or try selling the at a "re cycle type store". Now a third is wait a small while to see if any of our members come forward to take them off your hands. I think, on the average, most of us are bigger than that. But then, some of our girls are very small.

Since you disclosed the clothes were found there is no dishonesty in keeping the one that fits, since they don't want them back. What to do with the others sell donate or give away.

Donate them. The one from her mom that fits may be ok IF there is no chance anyone who might recognize it will see you in it, or at your house. But I am not sure I would go for it. Irrationally, it might give me th creeps. Unless it was too fabulous to pass up ;)

As long as a dress is not the LAST outfit worn by the person it doesn't creep me out.
It is a case of;
- Does it fit me?
- Does it fit my look?
- Does it fit my budget?
Oh so often I have found an outfit that I dearly would love to have but there just not enough material to allow me to fit it to me and/or the material needed to make it fit is just not available.
I have taken an inch or to two off of the bottom to use to insert as gores in the sides. But it is not often that I can do that. The adjustment material needs to be the same (preferably off the dress) so it has had the same wash n wear of the outfit, because if you used new material, after washing the new material will change color and texture and show up. Even the surface texture and weave (thread diameter / wear) will be different.

Kristen, perhaps your local thrift store would want them. Nice dresses.

So the consensus appears to be to donate the dresses.
Hmmmmm, would it be wrong to cut the floral dress up
and turn it into a bag, or purse? What if I were to make
2, and gift one back to my friend?

And Mikell, sorry, but no pics of the Mickey blanket.
I happen to know your more of a Bart Simpson
kind of girl anyway!
Much Love,
Kristyn

Hiyah Kristyn,

I wish I could wear a size 0 or 4!

Keep what fits and donate the rest.

No Leslie, I haven't had the time for it, but
still intend to do so.

And Nikki, really?
Being a size 0 surely has it's drawbacks???

Years ago while I still lived with my mum my sister had a friend come to stay for a few months, when she left she left behind several bags of belongings, including many items of clothing. They were stored in the attic, everyone forgot about them, except me. So as this friend never returned or was even heard of again, I decided to have a rummage through the bags, and found several items that fitted me, a nice little boost to my collection which at the time was fairly small. Oh yes, I would keep what fits you and donate the rest.

Keep what fits, make the bags you want and I agree donate the rest. Sounds fun! Brenda
