View Full Version : Weird hangup when I first started crossdressing

Like many others my first forays into cross dressing involved purloined panties, bras, and stockings from relatives and neighbors.

While I loved the look and feel of these items, I also got a thrill that these weren't just items made for women, they had actually been owned and worn by GG.

In my mind I felt that by wearing the items that they had owned, I was somehow transferring some of their owner's femininity to me.

As I got older and had the ability to finally purchase women's clothing on my own, I wasn't really that interested in new items, I sought out items at Goodwill and other resale shops because they were to my mind, items that women had worn and therefore would meet my needs.

I have since got over that hangup/fetish, and buy plenty of things new and never GG owned/worn.

Anybody else ever experience this?

Its not something I do but I can see your thinking.
If a woman has worn this then it is feminine therefore if I wear it, I am feminine

Don't worry about if it is a hangup or fetish.
You enjoy it and you hurt nobody else by doing so

I do 95% of my shopping for Sherry at thrifts. If something looks dirty or worn, I skip it. And, usually wash under clothing, foundation wear, etc. before wearing them. Dresses that look clean and unworn I'll wear without washing.

Occasionally one will still have a scent of perfume from the woman who wore it. Rather than objecting to the used nature because of that outfit's odor? I kind of like it!:o

Not really got a thing about pre used clothes, though I have many. So long as they are clean and in good condition I'll use them. On a slightly different note I know a store that sells 'female' clothes specially designed for men, which to me are not female clothes.

Not really. I have been buying new stuff just for me since I was a teen during ancient times.

I buy at thrift stores also and it does seem nice that they were worn by women. But I will buy from a store also and those have the same effect. It really does not matter. They are all feminine clothes and are nice to to put on.

That's kinda fun -- in anthropological terms, that describes "sympathetic magic" one of the earliest kinds of magic recorded among human cultures. (See James Frazer's The Golden Bough) We claim we don't believe in magic these days but we still see that behavior a lot. For what it's worth, I remember getting the same sense some times. It seems to be encoded in us somehow.

I actually had the opposite feeling. The first time I bought my own clothes I felt more "like a woman" because I was getting my clothes like a woman would. It was a liberating and empowering feeling. Though, when I buy my clothes from Goodwill, I do get a bit of the feeling that you describe in addition.

LizL,
Yes I do understand what you are saying , when I came out to my wife I felt so close to her and wearing her clothes felt so intimate with her . Clothes used by another woman especially ones you find attractive are very intimate , they might only be clothes to some but others they are part of that person, and wearing them you become part of them . It is in part how my Cding started, a swimsuit was even then in my child's mind part of my GFs body and something inside which I didn't understand at the time wanted to have her.

The feeling hasn't entirely gone away it's part of my AGP. I do shop almost entirely in charity shops not for that reason as much as the promise I made to my wife that my dressing wasn't going to cost a fortune . I'm very happy that I can achieve a nice appearance on a limited budget, but it does get me sometimes when I can still detect perfume on something I've just bought .

I was given a quantity of some really nice clothes ,I still haven't worn them all to go out in but when I have I made sure I took some pictures to show her how I looked. She was over the moon that I was getting some use out of them and insisted I looked better than her in them, it felt so good be told that , yes she was an attractive lady .

The dress in my avatar was from Oxfam online, I do wonder who wore it before me .

Maybe you should have also asked , do you have the same feelings about male clothes , I must admit I shudder at the thought of wearing another guy's clothes !

I wouldn't say mine is weird, just specific. One of the first feminine things I tried on was my mothers nylon Vanity Fair pajamas from the 60's. To this day vintage nylon pajamas are my absolute favorite thing to wear. I have amassed quite a collection over the years, it's become a bit of a hobby.....or so I tell myself!

I buy at thrift stores also and it does seem nice that they were worn by women. But, what if you are buying something that was purged from another crossdresser and you don't realize it?

That's why you never buy used panties lol

To me used clothes are used clothes. I'd MUCH rather have new and unworn. Back in college when I was broke I'd buy gypsy skirts from the local thrift shops but once I could afford new I never looked back.

Due to the means I used that started my adventures into CDing I can relate to your feelings. Because my 1st time was by trading clothes (completely) with my GF it just made sense with the aroma and warmth in some cases. Then it went to borrowing if even for just a few minutes from her Mother, sister, aunts and friends. I grew to except it as a part of the process until we split up. And no I never felt guilty just happily naughty. And would luv to still play these games but ny size prohibits such.

Hi Liz :hugs:, I don't use thrift stores I like new fresh things,

The only things that were pre worn were hand me downs from my wife and
they are very special to me, Every time she makes up a Goodwill box not everything
goes to Goodwill and she knows that it's not all going to make it to GW...:daydreaming:...

Oh, nice goin', Lorileah. You probably just cost a couple dozen CD'ers half their lingerie wardrobe.
Touche' :heehee:

Yes, that...and also the warm and fuzzy feeling one gets when the exact opposite thing occurs...donating one's own no-longer-wanted, "pre-loved" female clothes to a thrift store, subsequently seeing them appear on a rack or a shelf on the sales floor, and then stopping by again a few days later only to find out that some GG had likely purchased them in the interim.

To me, that's a form of validation of both my fashion taste and my body shape and size...knowing that there are GG's out there somewhere who not only share my clothing sizes, but who also appreciate my sense of style and want to claim it for their own... ;)

Should note pre owned doesn't necessarily mean pre used. My wife had a clear out and took a couple of refuse sacks full of clothes to a charity shop, a good two fifths of them had never been worn.

Speaking of thrift and Goodwill stores.
I have a friend that will not even risk being seen in a goodwill or a thrift shop because as she says "it is beneath her". She will not entertain the thought of even being seen driving thru the parking lot.
She has ego problem yes.

i just love GW and other thrift stores. I have bought all most all of my things there. But i must confess i never thought about who wore them before i did. it's the cost that drives me there. I do buy pantyhose new and bras and such on line, at least most of the time. Lately i have been buying women's jeans and have gotten rod of all my men's jeans. I guess we all have different considerations, mine is price. But i do love the variety and the HUNT for a good dress label in my size. Anyway you do it, you do it!

I guess i did not catch that Lorileah, If it was another cross dresser, I don't see that as a problem. But I bet that there are not to many crosdressers clothes at the thrift store.

I think I fall more into this camp. I too started with my mom's clothes but, as I grew up and "evolved" my dressing, I felt so much better about being able to purchase clothes that were mine instead of ones that were pilfered.

I tend to buy most of my things on eBay but do thrift store shop quite a bit. I've had some "conversations" with a couple of my fav eBay sellers and they know the dresses are for me. Sometimes they've requested pictures to see the fit and that's been fun. I guess I fall into the camp of enjoying the fact that a GG has worn the item. The new things I buy are nice but not quite the same.

It is not a hangup I experienced, although I did like a pair of bras given to me by a girlfriend.

I was conscious of the fact that they were given to me as a present.

I'm the opposite. I like that someone out there made the new clothing item for a GG and, nope, it's mine.

I've never gotten any such thrill acquiring previously owned garments. I do a lot of shopping on eBay for previously worn dresses and slips. Dresses for the fact they are seriously discounted, although end of season clearance at JCP.com gets my attention. The slips? Vintage slips can only be purchased as used.

When I first began to dabble in women's clothing, they were my mother's slips. What turned me onto wearing them was the feel of the fabric which was something I never experienced with boys' clothing.

If anyone has a fetish for previously worn clothing so be it! Just don't sneak into someone house to get them! :)

One of my seminal moments as a teen was when my girlfriend left her bikini behind and that night I slipped it on. The rush was amazing. The flood of emotions was quite broad, and certainly some of the power of the experience came from the fact they were HERS. I love new clothes--but love them especially more when one of my gg friends has helped me pick them out. When an ex-gf discovered that I was wearing her lingerie, she gave me some of hers. Though I don't like them fashion and fit-wise as much as my purchased pieces, they are very dear to me, and I feel a special, powerful connection to all gg's when I wear them.
