It was a crossdressing club in the Catskill Mountains operating in the 1960s. Its sister club, Chevalier d'Eon existed 10 years earlier. A collection of photos of the members was discovered in a flea market... you can read more about it here https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2017/may/17/cross-dressing-men-celebrated-barbican-uk-london-photography-exhibition-casa-susanna

There was a Broadway play about that place a couple years ago. I would have like to see it but I found out about it after its run ended.

I had heard of none of this. OMG, what an incredible find. And how cool is it that this find is being presented as an historical piece, a snapshot of our culture at a time when things were ...different. I may have to travel just to see this exhibit. Yes, I'm a bit of a history nerd.
Thank you so much for sharing this, Nikki.

Goes to show it's not just a phase brought on by some aspect of modern society. We're fortunate to live in a time when it's even as accepted as it is, compared to back then.

Casa Susanna was listed in 2014 and sold. Really quiet area today. Back in the 60s with the resorts not that far away maybe it was a little busier.
