I will probably go to Nordstroms this weekend. I know that they have a lot of high heels in size 12. Has anyone had any experiences trying on high heels at the store? Are the sales associates ok with guys trying on high heels in the women's shoe department?

I went to a shoeshop this morning determined to buy a pair if lovely red heels that they had in the window, purely by chance the normal staff were out of the shop and a young man served me. I asked if I could try the shoes in a UK size seven, he said sure and went out the back to get some; imagine my dissappointment when he said the largest size they had was 6. To answer your question; I don't think they care much, it's possible that there would be a few giggles after you left the shop, but so what. I think they are trained to respect the customer regardless of gender

This is a very upscale store, and their practices are different from the Pay Less. There won't be a long counter full of shoes grouped by size that you select yourself and put on your own feet while sitting on a bench. Instead you will see compact displays of single pairs of shoes in different styles. You point out to the salespeople which you are interested in and say what your size is, then they'ill go into a back room and bring them out for you to try on as you sit in a chair. The sales person will put them on your feet for you, then invite you to walk around and see how they feel. When you have selected which you want to buy, s/he'll take the others back to the back room. This is how they do things at a rich person's store.

I bought one of my favorite pairs of knee-high boots (size 13) at the one in Overland Park, KS (suburb of Kansas City), and they treated me like wealthy lady. I was in a dress and hose, and it was obvious from the start that they were for me.

(Be sure to wear the same kind of stockings or whatever you plan to have on your feet when you are trying them on. Don't try them on in your gym socks, or they may not fit later.)

Butterfly Bill....Boy do I know what you mean. Try putting your favorite pumps on with out stockings. Your feet down slide into them that well. LOL

And remember to try on shoes at the start of the day because your feet will swell up at the end of the day.

My SO always shoe shops at nite and I have to remind her about the above. She has many shoes now that are too large because of this problem she has.:(

Beth, May I disagree with you. The shoe industry recommends that women try on shoes at the end of the day, ie when the feet are swollen a little. If you try on in the morning, and the shoes fit well, they will be too tight to wear comfortably later in the day. This is what the industry says. For me, it is just the opposite. My feet are slightly larger early in the day and shrink toward the evening. Go figure!

LOL.

It's funny but my feet are huge by the end of the day. I bought a killer pair of boots last month before thinking about my feet swelling. I can wear them for about 2 hours and I have to take them off! Talk about pain.

Oh, you may disagree with me that's how we learn from eachother.

Nordstrom is great to the community. In the past they have had makeover days, etc. Next month at the San Francisco store they will be having a shoe fashion show.

I've shopped at the Nordstrom's in Columbus before. Didn't have a problem, the salesgirl didn't even bat an eye when I requested to try on some shoes. My advice would be, even though your feet will be smaller in the morning, is to go before noon in the middle of the week if you can, because the crowds will be smaller. The shoe dept at Nordstrom on a Saturday or Sunday is usually an absolute madhouse.

I've shopped for shoes at a couple of major department stores, as well as the local Nine West boutique, and never had any problems whatsoever. Remember, especially in the shoe department, most of these salespeople are on commission and a pair of $100 shoes is a sale, regardless of the gender of the buyer.

Nordstrom's sales associates are on commission -- so to them a sale is a sale. In other words, greed is a great motivator for tolerance.

For what it's worth, my experience is that nicer places (stores, restaurants, etc.) are more apt to treat me respectfully en femme. I don't know that they're necessarily more accepting as much as the staff there are trained to treat everyone like ladies and gentlemen.

I went to the Nordstroms store here in Salt Lake City,I told the sale lady I wanted to try the shoes on,she promptly called store security and they escorted me out of the store advising me I would be arrested and charged the next time I came into the store, they did not advise me of what the charge would be.

Huh? I have a hard time believing that a store such as Nordstrom's with the best customer service would treat anyone like that. Something else must have been going on. Were you naked?

Hmm, as far as I know, there are no laws against crossdressing on the books even in Utah. What probably happened was the stupid bigoted woman was under the assumption it was against the law, and security just followed her lead.
You might want to return with cash money saying:

"Look at the pretty green paper....you want the pretty green paper don't you. If I try on the pretty shoes and like the pretty shoes, I will give you pretty green paper for the pretty shoes and everyone is happy."

You might want to call up Nordies corporate headquarters and let them know about what happened so they can give the doofuses at the SLC store a talking to.

LisaK, I have shopped in the Cincy area. Is the Ninewest Boutique where you shop, the one downtown in the mall just off the hotels? If so, I have shopped in that store and tried on.

My brother lives just north of Cincy. He and his wife know I do this. He will never shop with his wife. She loves it when I come to visit. We will spend an entire day shopping. The mall that I like ( I believe it is the Montgomery Mall) has some great stores. I especially like the Benneton store and the Chicos store. Have tried on in drab in each with no problem.

I don't think that you would have a problem. All of the shoe salespersons at Nordstrom are paid on commision so they are not going to let anyone who buys a pair of shoes slip away.

Nordstroms is one of my favorite places to shop. Unlike many other stores in the malls, they have salespeople who will help you and, when they get to know you and your tastes, will even call you when they have a line that they know you will like, or when an article of clothing that they know you will adore comes on sale.
Sadly, there are few stores like it remaining.
You know, when it comes down to it, they really aren't THAT much more expensive than the other lower service stores for comparable quality clothing. And the shopping experience there is far nicer.

I like one particular Nordstrom store in my area because the sales lady I meat is very helpful. I recently had he help me select some pantyhose I just made a posting (http://www.crossdressers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=374510#post374510) on. Before that, I bough some Spanx Higher Power (http://store.nordstrom.com/product/product.asp?StyleID=2855971&Search=True&SearchType=keywordsearch&keyword=spanx+higher+power+%3E+In+All+Categories) from her. I plan to go back and may only shop if she is working.

By the way, I bough the suggested size of the Spanx Higher Power and they took me in a little, maybe two inches, and were comfortable. However, I think I will buy another pair a couple sizes smaller and see if it works better.

No, it was the Nine West at Kenwood Towne Center (Montgomery Mall). I work downtown in the Carew Tower, so the chances of a coworker walking past while trying shoes on is pretty good there.

Unfortunately, the Bennetton store closed :( , but I've shopped at the Guess and Kenneth Cole stores there in drab and tried stuff on, as well as at Parisian, which carries Juicy Couture (my favorite!) and has a good selection of shoes as well...not quite Nordstrom, but not bad.
