Hi Ladies,
I recently called a nail salon to make an appointment. Since I've never been there I did something I typically do before a first time visit and I called to explain that I'm TG, a crossdresser and I politely asked if any of the staff might be uncomfortable with that.
Well her answer gave my faith in humanity a nice little boost. She quickly and emphatically answered "No, absolutely not at all" and then followed that with "I'm so sorry that you ever even have to ask that question".
It made me smile.

Hi Elizabeth,
Yes, that was a very nice reaction to receive.
I've never had anything but positive experiences from the staffs of the various nail salons I've visited.
However; the response from the other patrons may be an entirely different matter. I've had some who welcome me into the group. On the other hand I had one experience, in male mode, where you couldn't cut the ice with a blow torch.
I hope you have the best of experiences.

I have been going to the same salon for a while now! First visit was a little bumpy but was fine! Only had one lady customer give me a stare not icy but not exactly friendly either! I have had compliments on the color I have chosen! Nothing really negative! Communication problems at times but no real problems! They great me with hello mister! I go in male mode! They realize who I am as the tech said that I had not been in for a while! It makes me feel good mentally, emotionally, and physically! ( I can not bend over too long or I get short of breath!) I have an appointment tomorrow for the complete works, even a back massage. Out of all the different salons I have been to they have treated me like a king/queen. One time one of the young techs, who was doing my pedicure acted a little snarky, but all in all good.
Tomorrow I wanted to try a very up-scale salon and I'll let you know if I am not treated well and with respect.
I am pleased you were treated well to, and was responded to like the clerk did.

In the past two months I've been to a wig store 3 times, a beauty salon 2 times, a women's clothing store. All knew who I was and what I do. Everyone was fine with it. I felt so comfortable at the beauty salon the second time I went en femme. Not an issue.
Our fear is mostly in our heads.

Most salons will not have a problem with it, but I have been turned down a few times. The last one I was at was glad to have me, and said they don't turn down any business. I always make sure they know what I am before going in.

It is a great thing when we can go in and have great time. My wife and I just had a spa day sauna, hot stone massage, facial, pedi and mani. I was in male mode but wearing polish and every one of the staff was engaging and easy to talk to, in fact enjoyable to be around. There was 2 other ladies having pedi's while we were one kept to herself the other joined in the conversation. In talking with them I found out the owner of salon (a male) wore nail polish all the time and both techs SO's wore polish one on his toes and the other on both hands and feet.
Can you guess who gets our business from here on LOL

One time I complemented a lady on her color choice and she offered to share the color. We ended up with matching toes and a nice conversation.

It's nice to get a reaction like that and makes you want to do business with them. My wife and I had pedicures once and the girl that did mine asked if I wanted the same color my wife was getting but of course I chickened out but so wanted to say yes. I was the only male in the salon so I thought better of it.

I have never been to a nail salon but it seems this salon is very friendly and thats a good thing.

It saddens me that "money spending customers" feel so insecure about their their right to be a nail salon customer. Everyone is equal..

Glad to hear you had a great experience
Rogina -- I sort of understand what you mean, but the fact is that money can buy you service, but it can't buy you welcome. I think that's what the OP was reacting to -- the sense of being honestly welcomed. That's a pretty cool thing.

They know me at the salon that I go to, I get Pedicures with nail polish and my eye brows waxed there regularly. The last time I went I decided to get shellac done on my fingernails, while the girl was doing them she told me that she always does my nails, which I thought was a bit of an exaggeration, but that was ok and another girl that wasn't busy came over to watch and commented a couple of times, but being Korean which they all are I didn't understand her even though she was speaking English, the accent stuffs me up, but I could tell by her smile there was no malice in what she was saying.
They are always nice to me when I go there.
