I've been from Orange County, CA to Port Orchard, WA and back in andro mode -- skinny jeans under a baggy sweatshirt -- with no problems whatsoever. I am transgender and was non passable at that point. Just be yourself and don't worry about it.

That's where California's nastiest prison, Pelican Bay, is located, so I wouldn't pick up any hitchhikers; you never know where they've been.

Beautiful area. Very conservative socially, but I've been to several conservative areas here, including the extreme North and had no problems. I guess you're there by now and you have seen that dressing down is pretty common there. Let us know how it worked out!
