I was hoping to see if anyone on this sight had any suggestions for therapists in the Atlanta area that deal with cross dressing. Hopefully someone who can work with couples.

Thanks,
Cindy

Hello Cindy

I'm too far away to give you any names, but someone who does not judge is critical. A second critical qualification is a licensed mental health professional. Thirdly, someone with previous experience with gender issues is a good idea, but may not be essential. The main thing is the therapist not try to judge you for what is likely a biologically based activity (crossdressing). Gender is largely nature, not nurture. There have been trials in the past that have shown this unequivocally.

Avoid anyone who offers reparative therapy in any form. That has been shown to create or aggravate mental health issues including but not limited to depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and at worst, suicide, and is considered ineffective and unethical at best. It amounts to telling the client that s/he is not acceptable as they are.

Cindy, Check out Psychology Today website, you can search for therapists by specialty, location, insurance...Good luck in your search and don't necessarily stay with the first one you try, you need to feel comfortable with them.
