I know there were a bunch of closed threads about online gaming as female characters. Anyone else still do this?

I've been hanging out on IMVU for quite a while, kind of as a little release for when the pink fog hits and I'm unable to dress IRL (gaming slang for "in real life"). I'll occasionally spend a couple of hours in the evening hanging out online in the chat rooms, visiting friends, trying on new looks and outfits, and generally enjoying femme time online.

Have to admit that dressing up online has its advantages.

- Everyone can easily look like a supermodel (You actually have to try REALLY hard to look ugly!)
- Dresses !!! Gowns !!!! Lingerie !!! OH MY !!!!
- One-click wardrobe changes
- Your makeup is always perfect
- "Does this dress make my butt look too big?" "There's a resizer/scaler for that ..."
- "Wardrobe malfunctions" mean that the graphics are glitching, not your actual clothing.
- Shoes !!! Shoes that FIT !!!
- No matter how many dresses or outfits you have in your virtual closet, they don't take up ANY space!
- You can wear clothes that would get you arrested IRL (in real life), and no one bats an eyelash.
- If you start getting harassed by someone, escape and relief is a mere mouse-click away.
- Costumes !!!
( Yes, I have a Jessica Rabbit costume ... "I'm not bad ... my pixels are just arranged that way ...")

Kayliedaskope01, if anyone is interested in my IMVU name. :)

I still have several Second Life accounts, including my main one as Ceera Murakami. But I am hardly ever there any more. Why play virtual dress up, when I can do it now in real life any time I want to? (Though I really wish I could apply some of those shape-adjustment sliders to the real me!)

True, but remember that isn't always an option for all of us.

Yes, give me some of those adjusters for a slimmer waist and bigger boobs!

I was playing Grand Theft Auto online as a girl, you can buy sexy dresses and outfits but I could never steal enough money to get the dress I wanted.
It was kind of cool playing as a girl.

Years ago I got into IMVU for a while. And of course I was a chick, duh! :heehee:

Sometimes I'd get all dolled-up IRL first. Or at least just the clothes.

Even had multiple guys as random IMVU sex partners.

(Though not all at once!)

I became good buddies with a male & female couple there. We'd hang out a lot at his little "club" thing, and have all kinds of wild fun with each other & all the guests.

They (the couple) actually thought I was a real GG -- until way down the line, when they started suspecting otherwise.

I never admitted it, but obviously my ruse was up. I did feel bad about lying to them. At the same time, what really changed? I was still the same person they had all those little adventures with.

Over half my characters on World of Warcraft are female and "hot". A decade ago they were a target of attention. Then again, years ago, the warlock had a succubus that was undeniably entertaining.

I've always picked female characters ever since video games were invented.

Everyone treat me as a GG on "second life" so I am thinking that it's not that common for a guy to pick a female character to play.

But I do admit I get a kick out of being a girl with perfect makeup and body all the time.

When I was younger I used to create female characters in games that allowed it and dressed them accordingly, that what a skater girl would wear while doing her stuff etc.

The only online virtual world I frequented for some time was Playstation Home and even though there so many clothes to choose from, I dressed my female character in nice jeans and a nice cardigan, no over the top costumes. The one time I dressed her in a miniskirt and a tank top I got contacted by several guys. Funnily enough that stopped once I returned to the jeans and cardigan outfit...

Ever since that however I stopped doing this even in games that gave me the opportunity. I somehow liked the way the male characters looked better.

Ah yes, good times. Been that, done there many an evening. Sometimes I would have two or three rooms open at the same time, and be fooling around in all of them! (I was such a ****!)

I remember once (on IMVU, not IRL) I was at a meeting with the owner of a club and two of the other dancers. Unbeknownst to the owner, the three of us were in another room having a fine old time in bed together. Jerrica (the owner) had NO idea we were doing anything else but listening to her, although she wondered why our responses were a little slow. "Sorry, I'm a little tired, Bree is on YouTube, and Wolf is finishing his homework." "Oh, okay ...".

It wasn't until close to a year later that Jerrica and I were chatting together, and I told her about what was really going on during the meeting. "We figured you would have been pissed if you knew we were screwing around during the meeting." "I'm not pissed about that - I'm pissed because you didn't invite ME!!"

We had a good long laugh about that ...

I actually earned a fair amount of real-world money in Second Life, as a content creator and terraforming expert. I designed and built multi-sim projects for people, including most of the Rutgers University sims in SL. I cashed out enough of the in-world currency and got enough direct real-world cash payments for the major projects to buy things like a complete Mac Pro tower computer system, and a complex home theater system for my family - big screen TV multimedia speakers and amplifier, etc. I don't sell much in SL any more because I didn't manage to make the change to "mesh" 3D product creation.

(In non-game terms, I designed and installed the 3D user environment that people interacted in with the on-line virtual world. Buildings that they could go into, landscaping, homes... I also created clothing and accessories for people's avatars, and texture sets that other content creators could use. People would pay me real money to make the things they wanted, and which they didn't have the skills to create on their own. Second Life is one of the few on-line game/virtual world communities where just about anyone with the right skills can add content to the game, and where you can purchase and sell in-game currency for real-world money. However, it should be noted that it is very rare for a player to make any sort of good money in SL. Most 'work' in Second Life pays far less per hour of effort than a minimum wage real-world job would pay. SL has millions of participants, but the ones who make any sort of real money there number in the very low thousands.)

Wow, Ceara, that's pretty cool. Now I can say I know one of the major creators in Second Life!

There was a book about Second Life a while back by Peter May, and it went into that in-world to real-world money thing. The book is called Virtually Dead, and it is a REALLY good read, especially for geeks like us. :)

Yeah the "hey day" of SL has long since passed, along with the chances of making any real money. There is just so much free and cheap (1L or 2L) content in SL right now your designs would have to be extremely special to sell.

I miss the gambling in SL, made quite a bit of beer money in a couple casino's that I knew always paid off well.

Crossdressing.

Bag away... :heehee:

Believe it or not, I'm "allowed" to have an opinion on something, as we all are -- especially on something that I used to personally do. Just because someone doesn't think highly of something, doesn't mean it's the end of the world, here. Nor is it a "painful" personal attack.

At the end of the day, I realized that IMVU was merely a useless, non-productive addictive time-killer for me. In fact, one could argue that it was an *unhealthy* one, at that... As it is a piss-poor substitute for real-life, face-to-face human interaction.

In my opinion, of course. :)

Though I won't get into how I was also showing up late for work every day & performing horribly, because I was only getting like 4 hours of sleep every night because of that thing.

So, yeah... Waste of time & money for me. Just took me a while to finally smarten up & realize that.

But you do you. Ain't no one stopping ya.

rollseyes. Naaah that's a stereotype. Actually it is a place where 35-45 year old soccer moms can go to pretend they're supermodels and hot club girls, all from the comfort of their own home.
Well at least that's how it is in SL.

LOL, Name a video game that isn't.

The funny thing is, the virtual worlds are probably the only "video games" where at least "some" money can be made to offset costs. Though as you know for over 90 percent of the userbase they're a money sink.

Actually you can play Second Life for free. I know people in there that have played for over 10 years and haven't spent a dime.

Heretics! Not-shopping goes against all that is good and right in SL. Inventory must always increase, never decrease, thusly not-shopping is heresy and is forbidden. This is the Way of the Fashionista.

Also as someone who joined SL back on July 19th of 2006 (which means I get the 500L$ weekly stipend) and have a premium account paid yearly (72 US$ a year), if I didn't buy L$ (Second Life's currency) on the side for shopping, SL wouldn't be a money sink for me. In fact, Linden Lab (the company behind it) would essentially be paying ME to be in SL because the US$ value of the L$ (If purchased separately) would be MORE than the yearly fee. Not even taking into account the other things that come with a premium account.

13 year SL veteran here, I don't think I have actually spent any real money maybe a few bucks during the early days. I used to invest my stipend at one or two of the casinos that paid off well. I still have >100,000 L$ in my account.

I am also basically being paid to have a premium account, as my weekly stipend adds up to more than the yearly premium account fee.

Ever since I started playing World of Warcraft about 8 years ago, I exclusively play female characters. The epitome of role-playing! I pretty much only play RPGs, as they are for me, the most immersive, and have a ton of replayability. I'm still playing Fallout 4 as a female character, and when I played Fallout 3 and Skyrim - all female characters. Even back as far as Ultima Underworld, Circa 1992, I played a female character.

It just feels better (and more fun!) to be a female character. Back in the days when I was in the arcades, I played the warrior woman on Golden Axe, and Chun Li on Street Fighter (although Cami was pretty cute in tight camouflage tees and short-shorts).

One of the jokes that was going around IMVU for a while was,
"In a lesbian-only room, how many of the people in there are actually males using female avatars?"
"All of them."

For me, playing around in SL was a pretty good substitute for indulging my repressed urges to cross dress and to be bisexual in real life. I could dress up my male or female characters, flirt, and even have 'relationships' with people whose avatars were of either gender, all with the clear understanding between myself and the others I played with that "This is strictly for fun, as roleplay between our characters - in real life, if we ever did meet, the most you would ever get from me is a hug". My wife was leery about the more 'adult' aspects of Second Life - until I invited her to ask any of the people that I played with about the strict guidelines I insisted on for adult interactions. Once she was assured that I would never take any of those on-line relationships into the real world, and that the people I played with didn't expect me to, she agreed that it was a better release than spending lots of money on porn, or at strip clubs or with call girls, or having outright illicit affairs on the side. I never did meet any of those other people face to face. And she could hardly complain about the very real money that I earned, which largely got spent on nice things for my family to enjoy!

After my wife passed away, and when I started indulging in real-world CD/TG activities, my interest in doing it on-line largely subsided. Besides, by that time, most of the people I had been role playing with had gotten tired of SL and had moved on to other entertainments.

Ceara, that's pretty much how I felt about it. I'm chatting with people online, not meeting them face to face, I'm dressing up and looking fabulous (as opposed to looking like a husky guy in a dress irl). Even if the encounters do get a little (or a LOT) more intimate, there's no chance at all that I would actually ever meet any of these people at all. That hot girl from Canada isn't coming, and I seriously doubt that guy from Chile is coming, either. Being naughty online is easy - it would have to be someone amazing to get it to move to realtime. (Thst is of course assuming I was single and looking, which I am not.) And of course, no worries of STD's or anything like that - I have my keyboard covered in latex to avoid getting a computer virus! Lol!

Maybe I can't dress up in the real world, but I know that I can set Kaylie free in the digital world.

When you go online with a female I.D., you automatically attract attention from the males who are playing. Eventually someone will push you to send them a picture of some sort, then some hints of a real name and location, and then the problem starts to spiral out of control. The end result being a 'crying game' type scenario, either virtual or IRL. Neither winds up ending well.

I'm not a gamer anymore, grew out of it I guess, but I used to play many MMORPGs. I always played male characters in those games it was like I never even considered that I could play a female character. Same thing for Second Life when I first messed with it. Eventually it occurred to me I might really enjoy a female character in Second Life. A few years later I went back to that character and tried out the game again trying to really play the role of a girl named Lacey, but again not really getting into it.

Eventually a guy approached me and we had an actual intelligent conversation then he offered to help me with my character. We spent the next couple hours shopping and by the time we were done and he had spent the equivalent of 10$ US dollars on me Lacey had transformed from a generic poorly formed female avatar to an incredibly realistic woman. It was a surreal experience to say the least. We went back to his house afterwards and he showed me all his stuff. I never saw him again.

I didn't spent much more time on SL, it was fun and interesting sometimes but just not real.

While that is possible it does not have to be that way. I have been playing a female avatar in SL on and off for 13 years. People have asked me where I am from, I just say "north of Seattle", I do not recall anyone ever asking for a RL picture.

I had a second life account years ago and obviously I was female :)

In a lot of modern games you get to choose your sex (lucky things) and I always choose the female, the excuse of “its always a guy in games” serves as a good enough excuse but if there is a choice then there is no choice. :D
I have noticed my non dressing friends usually take the female choice too.

Recently, I started playing Skyrim Special Edition (I played the original Skyrim about a year or so ago) The improvements in graphics quality is amazing. I have heavily modded it with a female body replacer and armours for my female character, along with other immersive mods. I think I've fallen in love with my character LOL! Not sure if I'd want to have a woman like her in real life.....or to BE her! :heehee:

This was my experience. SL gets incredibly creepy and invasive. There was a time when I played DC Universe Online and it was great! I had a full female avatar and even joined a small guild online. I never once revealed my gender to any of my guild mates and but they thought of me as female (they always referred to me as she/her). It was one of the best experiences and one of the only times when’s I felt 100% accepted. I haven’t played in years, but this makes me want to jump back into it!

Also, when playing other games online like Halo, Gears of War, or like a fighter like Street Fighter, I tend to chose to present myself as female. When people ask why? I usually say why not? Or claim that I like the challenge and want to disprove the gender stereotype.
