View Full Version : Adams Apple Size and Gender Variance?

Now I'm not suggesting that these two things are clearly tied but I did look up how and when a boy's Adams apple enlarges and it seems that testosterone levels during puberty are the cause. So I might conclude that since mine is barely visible and my voice has always sort of cracked, still does, maybe I'm onto something?
Your thoughts (moderators; if this is in wrong section, sorry).

Yeah, probably not.

I do not think they are related! However, my Adam's apple is small and my voice was crackly when I was younger! Hmmm! LOL Hugs Lana Mae

We could say that about a bunch of body parts (wink, wink) but I want to keep it PG.
Probably a big nothing burger.

There is a fair amount of science about the role of hormone levels and how the brain also develops in utero so i think there could be a link. As i said not a yes or no trait. So how big is your Adam's apple?

This is where concluding things based on an assumption show its flawed reasoning.
So no you are not on to something as others have stated.

I have one it's not overtly large (thank goodness) the last time I saw it was when I was like 205 pounds (got sick and lost like 20 pounds) As long as I dont get too skinny it dont show.

I have no adams apple whatsoever, and I never did. But I don't think that ever had anything to do with my crossdressing. I does help the presentation, though.

I don't have a protruding apple or big biceps, calves, etc. I don't think any of that is related to my dressing.
But, I wonder if guys with big Adam'a apples tend to have bulging muscles, too!?

Tracii, are you assuming that I'm assuming? Don't be bashful, but I think categorical statements are just that. A lot of what science has found would not have occurred if not for the someone asking a question.
I have not made any conclusion, the nature of my inquiry and the question mark at the end of my post title indicates it is NOT a conclusion.
I do thank you for your input, although I do disagree.

Oh I'm not bashful at all I speak my mind and its your right to disagree.LOL

I can answer that with a definite NO! Lol

I'll quash this theory pretty quick.
The cartilage which surrounds the larynx is there with all of us. It may not be of the exact same size but other things also affect the prominence of an Adam's apple such as tracheal position in the neck as well as fat distribution.
I am a perfect example. When I was young, minimal to no apple. Proof is my college graduation picture. Two years later however I had cancer and following a neck dissection, I was zipped up tighter than before and I was blessed with quite the prominent apple.
Years were spent trying to hide it but really, turtlenecks get old. As such, I don't give it another thought. We all have things that we'd like to change but cannot (or cannot without a significant procedure and lots of $$$).
Bringing it full circle, I went from no visible apple to a huge one without any change in my gender variance, nor do I believe it has any effect on it.

SaraJ i hope all is well health wise but a change in visible size due to surgery doesn't impact what I'm interested in. You cross dress, and your apple was small after puberty so was mine and so do I. I would count you as an example that there MAY be a correlation. Thanks, still very much just a theory.

Sara,
My T kicked in early so my voice broke early, I think you have a point all those hormones may have an effect on the Adams apple as well as hair suddenly growing everywhere . I also recall it gave me a very rounded bottom which did attract attention ans some suggestive comments . Pubic hair was also a problem as I was the only one in my year to have any .It was an all boy's so it did cause some problems on the plus side the T level did bulk my body up so I could take care of myself .

I've heard it said Sandra Bullock has a large Adam's apple. I know people when trying to gauge whether the person is a cross dressing male or a woman, they look at Adam's apple. Maybe it can also be said of angular faces and so on. Perhaps a man presenting as a plus size woman may pass better since the Adam's apple may appear smaller and angular faces are diminished.

Thank you, I am a 25+ year survivor, yet radiation is the gift that keeps on giving but regardless, it all beats the alternative. However, you are missing my point. Physiology can hide what would otherwise be a prominent apple. I am proof of this. My pre-CA-op physiology hid mine. Post-CA-op, not so much.
I don't buy any of these correlations that many grasp for. This thing of ours manifests itself regardless of the size, shape or look of any of our body parts.

I have an adam's apple that could cut a car in half, but I've been crossdressing since puberty :P
(On a side note, it doesn't bother me because I don't dress to pass)

if someone is relying on looking for an "adam's apple" to tell if you're a crossdresser or not you must be doing one helluva job of passing. I think there are PLENTY of things that'll give us away before that. I can't remember ever noticing anyone's adams apple
