View Full Version : A nice afternoon and evening out

Had a very pleasant afternoon and evening tonight, out and about en-femme with my daughter.

First we went to a local SCA archery practice, and shot arrows for an hour or so. While we were there, one lady who has known me as a male and has also met and accepted me as Ceera -but who hasn't been told the connection between my two aspects - was present, and she didn't react as if anything seemed amiss to her. I also helped a mom to teach her eight year old son how to shoot a bow and arrow. Neither the mom nor her son had met me before. After a while, the little boy happened to use a male pronoun in referring to me. His mom and the others were all quick to correct him, saying, "Oh no, she's a girl." :) He briefly objected, "But he looks like a boy...", but with everyone else insisting I was female, he just shrugged and we went back to our archery practice.

Then we went to an Applebees restaurant for dinner. The staff was flawless in accepting me as female. Had a lovely meal.

On the way home, we stopped at a liquor store, so I could restock my bar. The female cashier complemented my pretty fox bracelet, and seemed to accept me completely. Paid cash, so no need to show my ID.

Life is good. :)

Congrats on your outings, Ceera. Oftimes its the "kids" or "teenagers" that can cause "issues" :) While others pay no attn. , or don't say anything. Blessings.. Toni G.

I like the story. It may not have been what you wanted to hear but you have to love the way little kids just speak their mind without the shackles of expectation. Having said that, isn't it great that all the adults jumped to your defense rather than using the innocent childs comments as an excuse to shame or embarrass you (such as simply not correcting him). Life, as you say, is good and this story reinforces my belief that fundamentally most people are decent.

Ceera -- Sounds like a good day. :)

Toni -- kids are a tough audience. The deal is that they're still learning and they constantly are checking/reinforcing what they think they know. Gender recognition is evidence-based, basically the person looking at you add up the point score and determine which category you seem to fit. Adults these days have largely altered their point-scoring weights to accommodate the transgender community. Many kids haven't yet been exposed to it enough to change their reckoning. This kid just got an adjustment to his recognition skills (and probably a talking to on the way home to explain why the exception exists.) It's a win for everyone. ;)
