View Full Version : How common is under-dressing?

I'm new to all this and what interests me (so far) is just wearing panties and bra under my regular clothes. From reading around I believe this is termed underdressing.

I'm curious, is this common? Or is it more likely that as time goes on I'll want to do more?

TIA

For me Underdressing is quite common. Many girls here do underdress on occasion and others adhere to "fully dressed or not at all". Is underdressing common? I think it is (just my opinion) but not necessarily by all. Will you want to do more? Well that is certainly up to each individual ..... but if you are thinking about it now and frequently visit this site for information ........chances are pretty good that you will ant to do more.

Have fun and be safe

Welcome AttentiveHusband, I suspect you are married.
At first is just trying female cloth on, and when it became addictive I too started undressing and have been for a few years now.

One thing is if you go out and you involve going to hospital and getting undress, your secret is out.

My motto : go slowly like I was said and discover things as you go.

Hi and welcome.

From all I've read, it is common, but for a variety of reasons. I've abandoned my guy briefs and boxers in favor of all manner of panties. the overall comfort is amazing, but my major reason for switching is that wearing them everyday is more in line with who I am. I'll often also have on a bra with attached forms -- relatively small for everyday wear when I'm not dressed fully femme, and a bit larger when I'm out and about as Rhonda. I try to express my femme side even when in guy mode, and being underdressed helps keep me centered on who I truly am.

Hope this gives some insight.

Although I personally don't do it it does seem to be a fairly common practice amongst the members here. Many say it keeps them in touch with their femme side when in drab which I fully understand. But for me when I've tried it it just leaves me frustrated that I cant go the whole way, a bit like having an itch that you can't scratch. Obviously every one has their own take on the subject. Will you want to do more? probably..but only you can answer that. Welcome to the forum btw.

I think underdressing is very common. As long as you don't have to keep your dirty knickers secret and wash & dry them in private! I do not have any male underwear. I often wear a crop top which does not show through my top, it depends on the temperature, with winter here it is panties and crop top most days.

I cant truly say, but I think it is definitely very common but at different levels. I wear panties every day except the extreme summer months ( south La heat and humidity requires more for outside workers) and sometimes when we go out I wll have entire femme outfit underneth my clothes..stockings, garterbelt, bra etc..Do love when my wife pics my femme wear and lays it out for me when we are going out with friends

I’d be surprised if there were any valid statistics, because of the topic, but my sense is that it’s very, very common. For me, 1. panties, 2. Thigh highs and 3. a bra. After that, the doors open. A friend of mine, with his wife’s permission, wore pantyhose when hunting. He’s now hooked.

Among the general population of men I'd say wearing women's undergarments is not widely done. If a man is going to wear some women's garment it is probably going to be a panty. If that is the total interest in women's clothing I would characterize that as a 'fetish.' Among acknowledged cross dressers I think most have tried it once or twice. Before I found this site I did wear on occasion a nylon panty to work. It was a hassle and uncomfortable. A hassle when trying to use a urinal. Uncomfortable because having a desk job and sitting a lot nylon is not all that absorbent.

After lurking and joining this forum I gave underdressing a try. I went as far as wearing under a heavy sweatshirt a bra, camisole, panty and a garter girdle with stocking or a pair of pantyhose. I did not go to work with this attire, but, just going around shopping for the day. As a retiree I was not afraid of being 'outed' to any coworker. Being dolled up like that was uncomfortable, especially using a bathroom. Going into a stall and pulling down pantyhose and a panty and adjusting oneself was annoying. I can understand why my wife says it takes longer for women to clear out of the ladies room at the movies. Perhaps more importantly underdressing did nothing for me psychologically. The garment were just clothes. I keep my femme attire limited to full blown sessions; dresses, wig and heels included.

Nancy, wearing pantyhose for some serious outdoor activities became acceptable after NY Jets Joe Namath used pantyhose to keep warm during cold games. Keeping a layer of warm air around one's legs seems like a good idea.

It's very common (for crossdressers.) It's totally harmless. You may find it's all you need, or you may find you want to go further. There are neither rules nor requirements, nor even schedules to this. There's no way to predict -- the heart wants what the heart wants, right? For now, relax and enjoy.

I'd say it is normal for some crossdressers to underdress. Is it common? No one knows. I underdress in briefs/panties 95+% of the time and I wear hosiery/tights occasionally. I wear a bra only when I fully crossdress. We are all different.

Personally I very rarely under-dress. With my luck I would probably have an accident and I see the paramedics undress me and be like "wtf!" :D

I know its silly, but I cannot take the chance since I am a "closet dresser" :)

Of course if you ask here, you'll get responses from people who do it, but that doesn't mean it's representitive of the general population.

I work in an e.r.. Assuming one out of every 40 men is a regular crossdresser, and one out of 20 men is gay and MIGHT like to wear fem stuff, nowhere's near those numbers come in wearing female underwear of any kind. Sure, we do see it, but it's not an every day thing. I work in a busy inner city hospital.

I believe it's common for dressers who r just starting out. And, for those who's situations don't allow for open dressing.

I tried for awhile when I first began. It gave me a charge to be wearing women's things and no one knew! :o:

But, it was uncomfortable and soon lost it's thrill. Now, if no one can see what I'm wearing, I think it's pointless to underdress.
But, as Stephanie pointed out, wearing women's undies seems to be a fetish for many dressers judging by the endless "pantie" threads running here!:heehee:

It's a shame this forum doesn't allow posting polls or we might find out how common it is. Still, this is a crossdressing forum so the poll results would only apply to crossdressers and not the general (non-crossdressing) public.

Me, I have replaced my "tighty whities" with panties except for doctor visits. They are plain, no ruffles or cute words and the black ones would probably pass as men's briefs except for the label. At this point, they are just underwear to me, I don't get a particular thrill from wearing them.

I used to wear a bra but now I only wear one when dressing as a woman, not "underdressing".

IDK, my wife has a very similar reaction to new cute panties. I don't know how all GGs are, but my wife doesn't have a shoe addiction, she has a panty addiction lol! She has 4 drawers stuffed with them. She could go months with wearing a fresh pair without having to wash her undies. I think we are all addicting to certain types of clothes in some way or another. For me it's definitely nightgowns.

Firstly welcome, secondly I'll echo the warning about bra straps. Just observe women around you. How many can you spot were the bra lines are visible through their clothing.

As for how many under dress. I have no stats or figures but I suspect it's higher than many would think. Why, because if you look online for things such as forms, hip and bum padding, gaffs, any number of items, there are loads of web sites out there selling these wares. If there's no market for them then they'd go out of business. Hence it's my suspicion that there are a great many more who indulge in our little hobby than is widely thought. It's just something they do behind closed doors not even venturing out onto the internet and forums such as this.

And if that's the case then it follows there's likely to be a number who "borrow" their SO's knickers. However that seems to be more of a fetish than a real attempt at CD'ing and may not proceed beyond that.

As for your situation. Only time will tell. If you feel the need to proceed then you'll find all the help support and guidance anyone could need. We wish you well on your journey.

Oh no! Now you tell me. LOL

Seriously though, it's odd. I feel weird wearing guys' briefs, but am usually fine with the rest of the boy-mode wardrobe. As Pat suggests, I don't worry about it and do what I need to do to be happy.

How big a bra can I get away with when I'm in guy clothes? A C cup is clearly too large and an A is clearly safe. Is a B?

As big a bra as you can wear and feel comfortable with. Some of the dressers on here have a condition where their male breast tissue has grown (edit: gynocomastia) and do require bras to hold everything in place. Others have sensitive nipples, so the material of the shirts they wear rubs the nipple tissue and causes discomfort. And of course, others wear bras for the thrill of wearing something pretty and feminine under their clothes.

If you look online on how to measure for a bra, you can figure out about the size you need. If you are daring enough, you can actually go to a ladies' store like Lane Bryant and be professionally measured and have someone make recommendations about what you would need.

Sandy Storm

as big as you can get away with, where I am an extremely large muscular man with hard pecs so even tight A cup seams will show through my shirts if I am not careful of which shirt I wear, I prefer tight shirts to show off my build...so everyone is differant just experiment at home first

I can't say how common it is in the general public, but for CD'ers it is very common. I have underdressed all of the time since the 90's, usually in cami's, panties, and in the winter pantihose. I also love skirts, but that is for around in house only.

Attentive Husband, welcome to this fantastic forum! Your sisters here will always be of help to you.
To answer your under dressing question, who knows how many do it. Unless I know that I might get hugged, I under dress daily when out in drab: hold up stockings. panties, bra, and small forms, cami or thin blouse. I cover it all with a patterned, front buttoned shirt one size larger then normal. I am the most careful driver on the roed.

I love undressing, I would say that most of my dresseing is under dressing. In the winter months I wear panties and pantyhose everyday, it gives me the fem feeling pretty much whenever I want. My wife likes it because she feels that she's the only one who knows what I'm wearing under.
It's very strange I guess when I don't get opportunity at home I sometimes where full slips or bras under. I don't know it just feels so good and I noticed that everyone here dressing habits are different.

I call myself cd lite because I only fully dress in the privacy of my home. I still,do not have forms, wig, shoes or makeup that would complete the package but that is only due to practical logistics, keeping a small stash. However, it is more common for me to have underdressing opportunities and I take advantage of them whenever I can. Panties are easy. Adding a bra, camisole and pantyhose requires more time and cooler weather. ‘‘Tis the season!
How many men underdress? Who knows? Probably roughly equal to the number of cross dressers. And no one really knows how many there are of us either.

For a while I was underdressing in panties every day. I don't do it now only because I go to yoga after work wearing femme yoga pants and racerback tops and I don't want to be even more obvious than I am already.

I never underdress in a bra; I think they are just too obvious and I don't want to out myself at work. But, if I were to do it, I would wear a racerback bra or a sports bra to minimize the strap buckles and hook-and-eye closure. When I was taking the train into work, I used to make a game of seeing what kind of bra the girls were wearing. It was pretty obvious.

I underdress because I can only go all out girl once a month or so, and this creates just a little be of sanity between dressing events.

This only occurred once, but one morning, as I was getting ready to dress for work, (jeans, t-shirt, runners) I realized that I had no clean (men's) underwear. I NEVER under-dress, but that day, and having no choice, I looked through my panty drawer and decided to wear a pair of black Haynes spandex/polyester full brief panties. They are the single most comfortable underwear (men & women's) that I have ever worn. The feeling was sensational, but I always worry that someone might find out (having to go to the hospital) or that someone would spot the feminine waistband if I bent over. I've never done it since.

I wear panties mostly now, Haynes cotton bikinis fit best, but recently I found some men's cotton briefs that are just about identical. Once in a while I'll wear a bra as I'm somewhat endowed (B+to C-), but I usually wear a leather jacket over it so it's not very visible when in "male" mode.

Underdressing in my opinion is SOP in the crossdressing community in general. I wear women boyshorts daily they feel 200% better than any men's underwear. The brand I use have some spandex, flat seams, legs about 3 -4 inches long and stop about 2 inches below my belly button and keep he junk in place. Men's underwear typically make me sweat and the seams irate my croch like a baby diaper rash.

I do, but 24/7, just panties. Bras sometimes in colder months when I can hide it. I honestly don't care about being caught, but I'm not gonna advertise it to the world either. I've punched way more notches on the man card than most would ever dream of. Even had Green Berets teach me in my army days to wear pantyhose during road marches to help avoid blisters.

Those of you who say panties are not comfortable for all day wear, are likely not wearing the right ones. Of course, I only wear briefs, not those dreadful thongs that so many revere!

CynthiaD
12-03-2017, 10:36 AM
I'm in panties 24/7, and I wear pantyhose every day, and sometimes a bra under my male clothing. I wouldn't dream of wearing male underwear. I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, underdressing is a constant thing.

Panties are like potato chips, you cannot have just one.

I wear panties most of the time (as often as possible but yet being practical with work).

Mine started with panties, now to almost full dressing.

Enjoy the journey.

The problem with wearing a cami is the straps are usually very thin, spaghetti straps as they're often referred to. So the cami may help hide the bulk of the bra but do little to hide the straps. What you can do is look for a bra with no wiring and no adjusters on the straps. Something akin to this; http://uk.sloggi.com/women/bras-camisoles/10167143.html?cgid=s100001&color=0003_White or http://www.simplybe.co.uk/shop/sloggi-double-comfort-white-top/CB391/product/details/show.action?pdBoUid=6022&ifpla:&ci_sku=CB39102&ci_src=18615224&ifdyn:&promo=6230&cm_mmc=Googlebase-_-Simplybe-_-Product%20Feeds-_-na&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7Zekuanu1wIVCgDTCh000AJbEAQYBCAB EgKDHvD_BwE&dclid=COWszNCr7tcCFY-G7QoddncBug#colour:White,size:32 Made from soft cotton and lightweight.

Ok that bra has adjusters but they're on the front and not down the back and will be less visible. Sloggi bras like this are, btw, very comfortable to sleep in. One thing to bear in mind is if you wear a bra and a cami or tank top under your drab stuff you run the chance of getting a little warmer than usual due to the layering. Tricky the CD'ing, isn't it?

Welcome to the best place I have found that will make you feel good about yourself and let you understand that there's a lot of us out there just like you. You'll like it here and soon you'll get so used to thinking of all of us as girls that occasionally you'll be thrown off when someone says something really boyish like about hunting or working on their truck.

Since coming out to my wife and not having to try hiding my undies, I wear panties almost exclusively. Except when going to the Dr. I'm also a closet crossdresser so I only wear a bra in public if it's cold enough to wear a jacket or something that bra straps don't show through. Got caught out on that one once; I don't go back to that parts store anymore. In Florida it's usually way too hot to wear thigh highs or other hose but I would wear them a lot if it wasn't for that. I can't get enough of wearing women's clothes so I wear as much as I can get away with at any given time but under dress all the time.

Just to let you know that underdressing can occasionally have repercussions even if you think nobody can tell. A little incident that caught me off guard once was an appointment with my Cardiologist. I forgot about it the night before so I had been wearing my bra and breast forms to sleep in and kept them on when I first got up. If you're new to this you may not know that bra strap marks stay with you for a pretty good while. When I remembered the appointment I about freaked but what can you do, cancel or tough it out and hope he doesn't have you pull your shirt off. As the nurse left the exam room she instructed me to strip down to my underwear! He couldn't have missed the marks but said nothing about it. For some reason he 'accidently' took my phone when he left the room. By mistake??? I wondered if he thought he might find some juicy pictures but I keep my phone locked.

It's my guess that you'll want to experience wearing many of the other women's treasures and treats eventually. Women get to wear such a variety of things. Tunics, leggings and knee boots. Daisy Duke shorts and camis. Short skirts and long dresses. Anklets, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, belly rings. Make-up. I don't understand why more men aren't jealous of all of the women's choices.

I've dabbled in under-dressing over the years, but it's never really been "one of my things."

Typically panties & a pair of tights. I used to do that sometimes at work (corporate office setting, with employee numbers skewed a bit more to the GG-side). I just did it mainly for physical & psychological comfort, and perhaps a wee bit of a thrill? :strugglin

I wouldn't dare do it these days at work, though. Lots of physical activity with a strong possibility of something accidentally showing, or even getting hurt, in more of a testosterone-charged atmosphere -- coupled with that the place can actually be quite a gossip/rumor mill. All set with that, thanks, LOL.

I'll still wear panties every now & then under my guy-clothes, outside of work. But typically I'm already wearing leggings as pants, anyway. :D

I have done the sports-bra thing every now & then, too, when I used to own one. Padded B-cup. Kinda-sorta noticeable under a guy t-shirt, but could barely get away with it. My usual problem was the bra strap peeking out! :confused3:

Oh, and I will say that I never started out with under-dressing. It wasn't like it was some sort of "progression" or anything, like a "slippery slope." I believe I had already done the 100% en-femme thing for quite some time, before realizing that under-dressing was even an option. :heehee:

OP: Just do you. :)

Well you have come to the right place to help answer your questions. Welcome to the Forum.
Underdressing is common and it can range from the simple to the complex. I always wear panties beneath my clothing as I don't own any male underwear. Sometimes I will wear other items also. I would say that you should do as you want and wear whatever feels comfortable.

Not sure how common it is but have a feeling that if the general public were honest, it would be a lot more common than we think. I personally wear panties and a bra every day. Even found some breast enhancers I can get away with most days with a sports bra depending on the shirt. If you shop around, you can find bras that do not show. I wear women’s tank tops as undershirts to help hide the straps as well. Be creative. Be comfortable and have fun.

Not something you would know from seeing it in public but from what I have read I think that under-dressing is pretty common. Except for exceptionally hot weather I am always under-dressed in a bra and panties. I bet we would be surprised at just how many people we come in contact each day that are under-dressed just like we are. And why not? Nothing wrong with it at all.

I have been wearing my wife's bras and panties under my sweats at home since I retired. My first time wearing them out was to a "Little Pink Dress" event for the local cancer society. All the men had on pink shirts except me. When asked where my pink clothes were, I just smiled knowing I had on my wife's pink panties.

Gosh! It looks like underdressing is pretty common in this nick of the web. I almost start to feel strange for not doing it. Only quite recentle did I start to wear women's underwear to make my dressing feel more complete.

Very common in my household. My wife and I underdress everyday.

I have been wearing panties for over 15 years now: I have been wearing a bra also for over 5 years.
I wear fem jeans only for about 10 years now. It just feels right.

Girl, underdress on!! I don’t even own a single pair of men’s underwear anymore! And why would you?! Women’s underwear is SO much more comfy!! I honestly think the world would be a better place if everyone wore women’s underwear. My only piece of advice is to be aware of panty lines! If you don’t want to be outed, panty line awareness is a must. Same goes for whale tails! Otherwise, do you girl!

I try to wear pantyhose under my work clothes when I can. Depending on the day though I spend a lot of it up on ladders doing wiring and other techie stuff. I did come up with an excuse though if someone at work ever noticed, I am diabetic and with that comes circulation issues in my legs. Well, some nice sheer energy pantyhose does actually help with that. And, being a medical excuse, the guys in my office would drop the issue if it was noticed.
