View Full Version : Do you have an Anthem?

At the beginning of my journey my wife and I went on a date night to see The Greatest Showman. Since then the song “This is me” has been my anthem. Listening to a bunch of old faves I am hearing a lot of songs that can relate, with imagination, to being transgender.

Do any of you have an anthem?

Just a saying from many years ago Don't Tread On Me.

There are several, but they bear no relation to my crossdressing.

About a month ago I made a playlist for my Asew side. I consulted my favorite artists and a few crossdressing playlists. And when I listened to Born This Way (Lady Gaga) I just started crying. I never really listened to the lyrics and with finally being truthful about my dressing it just struck a chord and I definitely listen to it a lot now. But overall the playlist doesn't really enhance my dressing as planned so I actually listen to it more when not dressing instead.

"I enjoy being a girl".

I mimed it one time in a CD contest when I was eighteen, won the contest and won a couple more with the same "anthem".

It is corny but delivered successfully it can be very entertaining.

I was perusing YouTube last week and it presented me with No Doubt's live performance of 'I'm Just a Girl', taped at an L.A. show way back when. It's the version where Gwen has the audience participating in the middle.....
It's mesmerizing.
Since the song itself is more of an anthem about female empowerment and equal gender status, it has little to do with Cding, but still it touches me.

I went to the grocery store en-femme two nights ago and as I was checking out “walk like a man” came on and I just blurted out a laugh. Every one nearby looked at me for a sec then went back to their shopping. Sometimes life just gets me tickled pink.

These are all great songs. I am going to have to put together a playlist at some point if I can find them all.

Sure. Alone again, naturally, by Gilbert O'Sullivan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fm4mcCjXW4k
It came out right after a girl I liked very much, got stolen away by my close friend, who simply said, 'all's fair in love and war'. I never trusted him again.

Alone Again, Naturally by Gilbert O'Sullivan

In a little while from now
If I'm not feeling any less sour
I promise myself to treat myself
And visit a nearby tower
And climbing to the top
Will throw myself off
In an effort to
Make it clear to whoever
Wants to know what it's like When you're shattered
Left standing in the lurch at a church
Were people saying, My God, that's tough
She stood him up
No point in us remaining
We may as well go home
As I did on my own
Alone again, naturally
To think that only yesterday
I was cheerful, bright and gay
Looking forward to who wouldn't do
The role I was about to play
But as if to knock me down
Reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch
Cut me into little pieces
Leaving me to doubt
Talk about, God in His mercy
Oh, if he really does exist
Why did he desert me
In my hour of need
I truly am indeed
Alone again, naturally
It seems to me that
There are more hearts broken in the world
That can't be mended
Left unattended
What do we do
What do we do

Alone again, naturally
Looking back over the years
And whatever else that appears
I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to hide the tears
And at sixty-five years old
My mother, God rest her soul
Couldn't understand why the only man
She had ever loved had been taken
Leaving her to start
With a heart so badly broken
Despite encouragement from me
No words were ever spoken
And when she passed away
I cried and cried all day
Alone again, naturally
Alone again, naturally

After every failed relationship, I remember this song, and how appropriate it seems to my life, though it will never again send me into the sobbing, crying fits that it did when it first came out, back when I was 15. What it does remind me, now, is just how much adults forget what it was like to be a teen, and feeling so alone and isolated, and being told that 'it's just puppy love' and that their child should just forget about it and focus on school. Right. As if that was the answer at the time. Way too many kids have their feelings ignored by their parents and other adults who have long ago jettisoned any concern with the personal needs of those kids when they are needed most.

I have a fantasy that I'm singing "Moon River" at a karaoke bar in my polka dot dress. I'm crying through the whole song. I get a standing "O" at the end and wonder what the "O" stands for?

Have to go with a fairly obvious one, "Man I Feel Like A Woman!" By Shania Twain. Fairly obvious one I know.

Like Jaymee, mine is "Moon River". It has been since I saw Breakfast at Tiffany's when it first came in 1961. I was 12 years old and wanted to be Holly Golightly in my very fiber and being. "Moon River" has been my theme song ever since along with "Young at Heart" by Sinatra. Unfortunately with my second theme song, the body has another time table than mine.
