Hi girls,

I need a wig I have been shopping for my first and could use help. Can anyone give me some tips. I was thinking either short or medium length. My natural hair color is dirty blonde. Are there colors that are better, it is so confusing.

My only advice is just to go here:

and pick one you think would work for you. They have a great selection.

If you have a wig store near you you could go in there. I have found that the several stores I have been to cater to and are quite supportive of cd's

Tina,
You don't say where you live. If the members knew you might get some pointers on local wig salons that are CD friendly. I bought my first good wig over a year ago. Best advice I got was to only buy a human hair wig. The ones on-line can cost $300-500. The one I got at the local shop was under $90! Also, you can go in and try it on and see how it will look. I bought my wig while in boy mode. Next time I want to go dressed to have even a better look.

Just picked up a human hair wig on ebay- pretty cheap at $85 but is from China and and not too well done. Think I can make it work but will have lots of fun playing with it for awhile! My first one (synthetic) was also on the 'bay (gogocorp or something) and fits great! Lots of sources out there as mentioned by others.

Hopefully there are a few wig stores where you live. Call ahead and ask if they welcome Cross Dressers. When I called, I asked "Would a Cross Dresser be comfortable shopping at your store?" I got a definite "Yes, that's what I do for a living!" At the store, most sales clerk will be very helplful in suggesting a color and style that is good for you skin tone and the shape of your face.

Happy Shopping!

You can order some decent wigs online from Paula Young, for not a lot of money. I like longer styles, to hide my neck and the side of my face. Most men have larger necks than women, and a longer wig will conceal that. Get a color that is close to your natural color, and it will look more natural.
