I went to the career meetup again, and it turns out that they have a lot of dress clothes for people to use for interviews, both for men and for women. When I walked by the rack of clothes, Steffi wanted to look for something for her. I had to stifle Steffi because I was on a different mission.

I think maybe that should be my new name, "Stifle Steffi". Not really, but that's how I felt tonight.

Sounds exciting! What types of clothes was Steffi most drawn to? Also, how was the career meetup? You had some success, hopefully.

Good luck finding the right suit and good luck with your interview when you have it.

Hopefully your next mission will be able to unstifle Steffi and get some clothes you want instead of need.

Steffi, good luck with your interviews. Once you get your new job take Steffi out to dinner.

I'll give you a hint. They had women's suits in all different colors and mens suits in blue and gray.

The meetup was really good, but it's not a job fair.

I attended three sessions:
1. Winning the job interview
2. How to spruce up your resume
3. Interviewing techniques and sample questions and answers

After 18 years in the same job, I need someone to take me from (snail) mail in resumes to the Internet, job searches and LinkedIn and more. There's a lot to learn just to get started. The worst thing I could do is to look like an aging baby boomer.

A lot of it is simple stuff. Don't put your physical address on a resume, but your email address. Make sure your email address doesn't give your age away, like an AOL, hotmail or msn email address. Put your LinkedIn link on the resume; if you're not on LinkedIn, there's a good chance that your resume goes into the bit bucket. Recruiters spend 7 to 12 seconds perusing your resume. If something doesn't catch their eye, in goes in the bit bucket. Don't put dates on your resume. Don't list jobs more than 15 years in the past. All kinds of practical ideas that are easy to do but hard to think of.

Good luck to you Steffi. I agree that when you get the new position you find that great outfit and treat yourself to a nice dinner in celebration.
