View Full Version : Out to the store!

Did a few things in male mode and then dressed for the rest of the day! I went to the grocery store as Lana Mae! (First time!) I got dressed and walked out to the car! I drove to the grocery store, parked the car, got out of the car and was so nervous I was shaking! I pulled up my big girl panties and started walking toward the store! A man stopped his car and let me cross. I entered the store and since I was only getting mayo and some candy I grabbed a basket! I placed my purse in the basket! I slowly walked into the store and found the aisle for the mayo! I bent at the knees in feminine style to pick up the jar I wanted! I held the basket in front of me with both hands and made my way to the candy aisle! I got a number of nice smiles from those I encountered...mostly women! I went to the checkout and paid for my purchases! The checkout person was polite but called me...sir! Well, I am one of those who as long as you don't call me late for supper, it is alright! I walked slowly back to my car and another man stopped his pickup truck to let me cross! I got in my car and drove home! I am now in the process of making my potato salad as Lana Mae! (I am sure it will taste better! LOL) Just thought I would share a little! Hugs Lana Mae

Way to go. Many here do not know your home town and cannot appreciate the fortitude you showed on that adventure. Hmmm...love potatoe salad. Is candy on your diet?

Sounds like you did just fine doing the grocery thing so maybe next time do all your shopping in girl mode.
People are generally nice and stop to let you cross.
Well done Lana Mae !!

Yes for sure, it takes a lot to do what you did Lana Mae, But now you have done this and succeeded very well you can go some more and yes it will get easier and the nervousness will dissipate whether it goes completely, I speak only for myself each time I feel nervous at the outset and then it slowly goes away and when I get home I think why did I worry in the first place.

Congratulations, Lana Mae!

I couldn't help smiling at the car that let you cross ;). And bending at the knees with straight back to pick something from a lower level, I do that in guy mode now too. But the rest of the report is more than I can visualise myself doing.

Great work with the interactive outing! :shades:. You are getting there! :notworthy:.

I'm curious how much of this you credit to the counselling, and how much you credit to your big girl panties (?).

Called you 'sir'? I'd suggest you advise the store's administration of it.

Thanks Laura, I am glad you appreciate the town and all that! Yes, my wife's recipe for potato salad and I love it! No candy is not in my diet but I eat it anyway! FSBS this AM was 112!
Tracii: I know people are usually nice as a matter of course but there are some bad ones out there! Most won't cause crap just look disgusted!
Sarahlee: Thanks! There is a thin line between brave and stupid! LOL
Bobbi: Yes that is what I am hoping, that it gets easier with time and experience! Calmer at home and stayed dressed!
Lydianne: Thanks! Well, maybe the counseling got me to the parking lot but those big girl panties got me in the store!!! LOL!!!
Thanks ladies!

Jenny causing a big stink over something as small as a sir comment here and there is not something worth doing.
One it makes you look like a petty trans person looking to cause problems.
Two you end up causing the employee to lose his job because you don't know how many infractions he may have at the time or they may be on probation as a new hire and one strike is all it takes to get fired.
You don't know the situation the employee has a home and how important that job may be to his/her family.
Show a little compassion Jenny.
All that needs to be done is look at the employee and say its ma'am thank you. You have gotten your point across without making a big issue over a misgendering.

Personally I don't care if I am misgendered because I know people have a hard time figuring out what I am at times.

Lana,
Thats great you've got out and been Lana in real terms. Sometimes the nerves can take over completely and when you arrive home half the list is missing .
As usual I dropped myself in the deep end , I had bought some garden tools from a B&Q store and had to go back to get a faulty one replaced, then went on to do my full shop in Sainsbury'sthen I filled up with fuel and after went on to buy a wiper blade for the tailgate window . It was so easy , I felt partly disapointed when I returned home . I've now been to most shops in my town so iyt is becoming more a way of life . OK I admit I still need the little nudge to get me out the door but as soon as I start putting my make up I know it;s going to happen .

So here's to your next time go out and enjoy it , your counsellor like mine suggested to give it a try . I have to admit I've never had a "SIR " but then I've not had a femme term either . I take that as a compliment because at least I haven't been called anything else worse .

Jenny: The girl was already having a rough day! I was not going to make a stink about a misplaced word! I got it before and will probably get it again, big deal!
Samm: You don't know how bad that would be! Reese's peanut butter cups! With mayo...Yuch!
Orchid: A few Rednecks but nothing else! LOL Yeah, landed alright!
Tracii: Yeah, call me anything but late for supper! LOL
Teresa: I am back to male mode after 4+ hours as Lana Mae! I got a lot done in those hours and enjoyed it! (Nervousness aside!) I expect it will be the first among many to come!
Thanks Ladies!
Hugs Lana Mae

Lana, good for you. I know the joy of being out dressed overcome the nerves. Did you notice who was the first to point out your weakness for candy ? heehee

You made one big mistake, next time step away from the candy rack and buy some carrots instead.

Glad you had a nice time of it.

Lana I'm sure you know that grocery shopping is one of my fave outings. Some very nice occurrences and some nasty ones also but generally pleasant. In some weird way it relaxes me in the midst of all those women. A full cart and a long check out line can be a bit unnerving but we all have to eat.

Lana Mae, congratulation, look like you made it ok to the store. Good job, next time it will probably be easier

Have a great day ,

Amy: It was great being out! Yes, I noticed!
Amelie: No carrots, can't chew hard stuff! LOL Thanks!
Allisa: Strangely I like grocery shopping except when there are loud screaming children present!
Rayleen: Looking forward to many more of these! I am sure it will get easier!
Thanks ladies!

Hi Lana Mae. Glad your excursion to the grocery went so well. RE: the Sir...meh. It happens...even to GGs. My favorite is "Sir, I mean Ma'am, or vice versa...good to keep them guessing!!!

Lana Mae,
I'm glad that you didn't let your nerves get the best of you, and just walked in and did it.
I enjoy grocery shopping. You can focus on clicking through your list as just one of the girls.
Next time will be easier.

Good job Lana, your way ahead of me I'm still closeted and wouldn't have remembered to bend properly to pick up the jar. I am jealous because you can eat candy and my wife has us on this health kick so no sugar, I do miss it. Enjoy the candy and proud of you for going out.

Lisa,
I'm inclined to agree with you supermarket shopping is more of a preserve form women, most men get dragged round and try and sneak things in the trolley maybe another pack of beer ( don't forget we can buy alcohol in our supermarkets ) . The guys are usually the ones doing a little people watching that's usually who I'm mostly clocked by , OK they are courteous and open doors for me . The downside is when the trolleys are kept outside and the weather is wet and windy you need a spare set of hands to hold onto everything , skirt , wig, handbag , still more fun than doing it in drab !

Nice to read your first time out thread.

It is nice when it all works out.

There is always next time, the second time out.

Me, I think I am looking at outing 1200 or there abouts....

Who's counting anyway, get out and enjoy life.

Lana, you have crossed the fear factor now and see that no earth shattering event gobbled you up. From here on it should become a little more comfortable with every time. Glad you had an enjoyable 1st.

Lana, getting Sir sucks, but seems to be out weighed by all the other positive things.

Kim: Thanks! Yeah, like I said just don't call me late for supper! LOL
Gracie: Thanks! Yes, I am sure it will get easier every time!
Jaylyn: Candy is my addiction! It was good to get out!
Teresa: You can buy wine and beer in some states in grocery stores! That includes here in NC! I quit drinking alcohol so... Yes, handling everything can be a problem! That is why I placed my purse in the arm basket!
Beverly: Yes, it will get easier and easier and then just be more or less common place!
Franlee: Thanks! No, no earthquakes! LOL
Jamie: I have never been maam'ed so no big deal!
Thanks ladies!

Good for you Lana Mae! So glad you had fun. The next time someone calls me ma'am I will not tell them I am a biological male and I will not ask to be addressed as "sir".

I have no interest in forcing others to think a certain way. I will leave that for people much smarter than myself. No problems playing dumb and being happy. Dressed of course!

While being called sir might be a bit hurtful, there are and will be a lot worse things said in the future. I had every hurtful word in the book tossed at me and a few violent encounters. It's your life, just ignore the hurtful words and keep happy.

I envy u, Lana Mae! For shopping dressed and buying mayo. I haven't eaten it in 15 years! Love it, but forgotten what it tastes like.

When I'm dressed, I ALWAYS signal the cars to go ahead. Too worried they mite not recognize I'm trans until I've walked rite in front of their car!

Samm: I know! Me neither!
Tracy: I guess they have to call us something! LOL
Amelie: I have been called every name in the book and a few that are not in the book! That was mostly before I knew about this! No violence and don't want any but I am belted in Tae Kwon Do!
Doc/Sherry: Get you some and taste it again! That thought did cross my mind, believe it or not! LOL
Thanks Ladies!

Actually supermarket shopping is really one of the least stressful places I go dressed. Everyone is busy with their own shopping and there is little need to to talk to anyone.

Doc/Sherry: If it is growing hair, I wouldn't eat it! LOL
Nikki: It was 11 AM on a Tuesday! There were maybe 10 people in the store! More items next time!

Grocery store firsts are profound! I don't know why!
For me:
First time buying pantyhose at the store (in male mode). I bought so many groceries to mask what I was doing.
First time wearing shorts and pantyhose and doing real grocery shopping.
First time in a skirt in the grocery store.
First time doing all of our household shopping in a skirt. That was the best. Traveling aisle to aisle with the same other customers. We were all just doing our thing and seeing each other on every new aisle. It was like being... normal!

I always do my shopping far from home.
Were you at your local grocery store or far away? If local, you are super strong!

Lana, Congratulations on a very successful outing. the first is stressful as i recall going to the mall, but you have to develop a shield of sorts against odd looks and comments. I have only been out 4 or 5 times and sometimes out to the park that was almost deserted, a good place to practice. Anyway do it again and try a big girl girdle. HUGsss
