Last week while out dressed I was referred to as madam for the first time . Yesterday I was out dressed and waiting for my turn to pay for a wrap skirt in a charity shop . I young boy with a Starwars CD tried to push in but the SA said , " Sorry young man but this lady is first ," referring to me . Anyway I told her it wasn't a problem and would take a look at some jewellery while she served him . When my turn came she remarked on it being a nice skirt so I told her I was tempted to keep it on and and slip my other skirt in the bag . As I left the store she remarked how nice the skirt will go with the Tshirt I was wearing .
It's funny how these small words mean so much , again I felt I had given enough signals for the SA to accept she was serving a lady without having to do a double take , also she took the trouble to allow me to use the staff changing area because there was queue at the shop changing cubicle .

I'm glad you were treated like the lady you were representing. SA's would sell a lot more if all were as courteous as yours.

Finally? You always were a lady shopper you just didn't realize it. It's funny how it's when they don't use a feminine reference that I notice.

Lisa,
Some shops and other public places aren't given the choice because they only know me as Teresa they have no male images to relate to , that does include the doctor I saw recently .
In the short time I never thought this would happen , back in February when I separated and moved I was debating on the forum how close I could go to full time , did I have the right clothes , was my makeup right and did my wig give me the right look . These small comments are the right messages to tell us we must be heading in the right direction . The problem I'm having now is I don't want to do my everyday jobs around the town and elsewhere in drab , OK I've not walked the dog in the morning dressed but have now started taking her for evening walks dressed when it's cooled down a little . That does feel good , I'm usually in short shorts and Tshirt , I have met other walkers and chatted to them .

Teresa I rarely do anything without being en-femme now, except for dirty sweaty jobs. If not en-femme at least in andro or leaning towards the femme side. No urge to transition via medical means or legal just enjoying my middle ground for now.

Teresa,
What a wonderful experience, and how thoughtful of the young SA to think of you in such a manner.
I don't come close to passing, being my size, etc. But darn it,.... I put my best foot forward and at least attempt to display myself as a recognizable woman. When someone in The World acknowledges that and address me as "M'am" or as my femme name Ilene, I get such a warm and welcome feeling inside. Yes, those little words do indeed mean something; a little something that means a lot. So happy for you, my sister.

The first person to call me madam will get a clip round the ear! I do get called "miss" frequently which I assume is a bit forced because nobody calls anybody that any more...but I'll take it!

Angela,
The madam was used by a male employee in a supermarket when I asked if they had any porridge oats , " He replied I'm really sorry Madam but they appear to be in short supply ," so I replied , " Looks like I won't be getting my oats tonight !" So he quickly replied, " Well it looks like someone is in for a quiet night !" I could see by the reaction of a few customers that they had overheard the conversation judging by the smiles .
I was far happier to receive a "madam" rather than a "sir " !

Lucky you! I have been out more and still not a single "m'am"! I know I have to take in consideration where I live-the bathroom belt! LOL Hugs Lana Mae And good for you!

I was out running errands en femme on Friday.
At the market, I was ma'amed four times, including a comment on my nice outfit (white capris and a sleeveless dark button down blouse).
I was referred to as "this lady" by one SA to another while they were helping me with something.
I was on cloud 9 for the rest of the day.
I still can't help smiling when I think about it.

I got called "Madam" by a (female) cashier in an office supply store a few weeks ago. It was only the second time I went out in public en femme. It almost knocked me off my feet. I've shopped in that store several times and am so used to "merci monsieur" at the cash that I was totally blindsided by the "merci madame"! I was walking 3 feet above the ground when I headed out to my car!
