I didn't want to hop in on Lana's thread or add to the the comic thread so I figured that I would just hit both with a new thread.
After attending church for a while now, I was asked a few months ago about becoming a member. Well today was the ceremony, so I'm now a member. So I am the only TG attendee (there are a couple of gay and lesbian members but definitely we are the minority). Afterwards everyone was sure to come over and congratulate me.
After church the other new member (and her husband and his sister) and two other couples all decided to go out to a Chinese buffet for brunch and had a great time talking and joking. In the conversation we asked the one couple on how they met, the wife said that he was sitting with a bunch of women one of whom was her friend. And then she added that they used to talk like he was one of the girls. I added that I get the same reaction, got a good laugh.
I guess that if you are just yourself and sometimes use humor as an ice breaker, everything can work out. When I first joined this church some people were a little cool in that the other TG member was a little to radical and a bit overbearing on TG issues. After she stopped attending and they realized that this was just one facet of who I am and was a bit more flexible, things did change for the better and even the initial aloof members have come around.
Isn't that special:)
