I was kindly asked by a family member to drop in while she was caring for my granddaughter , the little girl has seen me dressed but the lady concerned hasn't , she had seen some pictures so didn't haven't any objections to me dropping in dressed . We had a lovely couple of hours chatting and playing with my granddaughter during the afternoon a lady friend dropped in on the off chance , it may sound confusing but I was introduced as grandpa because of the little girl . When it came time for me to leave the ladyfriend insisted on giving me a hug , in the process my earring was knocked off , the clip I found on the floor but we couldn't find the centre ! After a few moments the lady began to giggle , she then said I've found it , and extracted it from her cleavage , we were is stitches for five minutes laughing !! I fixed the clip back on and remarked how warm it was , when I reached the door the family member gave me a huge hug , I thanked her for being so kind , she then said , " I think it's wonderful what you've achieved , and then added wistfully I wished I looked like you !"
That is the second time a GG has said this to me , the first time was when a GG saw me in the changing area in a swimsuit , I'm still at a loss how to reply to it .
I know I continually say that we can't pass 100% , I feel this turns my thoughts on their head . I know part of my acceptance problem stems from my wife's critical attitude , it sits niggling in the corner of my brain , I feel I'll never be free of it until I have her totally out of my system .

Wife, not ex, right? If so, seems like it will be difficult to get her "out of your system".

Julie,
Separated but still in touch because of children and grandchildren .

A great story. The acceptance you are getting from extended family and new acquaintances is heart-warming. It shows up how misdirected the negative reactions are.

Teresa,
I note still connected to the rest of the family.
That is a goal you should be able to keep.
Handy having your ear ring warmed up by your friend. :-)

Time to get your ears pierced then so that doesn't happen.

Sherry,
I love my earrings too much , as for pierced ears , it doesn't bother me one way or another , it has no bearing on my gender thoughts , my wife and daughter had some problems with infections with pierced ears and both have given up on them , besides who minds retrieving earrings in these circumstances ?

Just keep your piercings clean for the six weeks healing period and you shouldn't have problems.
Just because they had issues doesn't mean you will.

Cute story.
I agree that you should just get your ears pierced.
If I were as out as you are, I'd have mine pierced in a heartbeat.
My wife and daughters have theirs pierced and have never had any problems with infections.
Follow Tracii's advice and follow the cleaning regiment until they are healed.

Teresa, way back in the last century I was the main caregiver for my ex-wives and my daughter. Our daughter was three months old when I came into her life and it might have taken 30 seconds for that beautiful girl to wrap me around her little finger. She knew me dressed both male and female until she was 4-5 and then I dressed much less around her. But she knew Daddy wore earrings constantly (both ears pierced twice) whenever we were out and she saw some cute earrings she had to get them for me and I had to wear them. some were quite "girly". Oh, how I miss those days.

Hmmm ... new product idea: an earring warmer. Just the thing to make you feel toasty when dressing on a cold winter's day.
Anybody who takes this idea and makes money from it owes me royalties. :)

I hate losing a clippie. Wearing really big ear rings makes it easier to find them when they come loose. Really shiny ones can be found with a flashlight.
I know a woman that used to wear pierced ear rings. She showed her split ear lobe to me. yep, instead of losing an ear ring, it ripped through her ear lobe.

I dunno, Diane. I believe some of the world's greatest minds have been working on the problem for some time...
