I am sitting here all dressed up, without makeup though, sewing bright gold buttons on the shoulder of a Kelly green knit dress I got at a garage sale. It is a really neat, kind of bodycon long sleeve knit that fits me to perfectly. The only thing is, I didn't notice was a missing button one on the shoulder. There were two gold buttons and thread where the third should be. I saved some pretty gold buttons from a dress that I discarded and was just sewing them on, when it accrued to me that this is just what a woman would do. I can't get over how much I am beginning to think like a woman, it seemed so perfectly natural!

Shely......I grew up in the fifties and gender roles were very defined Today my son-in-laws help my daughter's with everything but when I do any chore that as a child was considered woman's work I like to dress for the part.I had supper ready for my wife tonight and I wore a top, skirt and heels as I was preparing and cooking.Like you I've sewed buttons on things and love being dressed as I do chores around the house. My wife complains I could do a lot more but I'm trying and it's a good excuse to dress up.When she ask for help she knows I'm not doing it in guy mode.

I sew a lot also to make dresses fit better or add style. Does wonders for my appreciation of what women skilled in sewing do, and it feels so good to customize my clothes.

also pretty good at sewing buttons and stuff. I also like to get dressed for housework, it makes work more fun.

I finally got around to fitting an old T shirt, bringing it in at the waist. I have a lot more to do this winter, when it is too cold to work out in the garden. All the women in my mother's side of the family could sew. One aunt did it professionally.

Shely, we all get that way eventually if we have supporting spouses.

The women I know best, my adult daughters and ex? Would toss anything that lost a button in a second!

Only I do that kind of sewing these days!

Shely,
I enjoy a little sewing , I usually spend a few minutes checking things like hooks and eyes , If a skirt or dress doesn't have them I usually add them , It's just a safeguard if the zip fails , also it makes putting on dresses easier as they hold the neckline together while zipping up .

I told the story of when I dropped into a sewing/craft shop to but some sewing items and there was a sewing lesson going on, I remarked that I would love to learn how to use a sewing machine well and they all chimed in telling me to come and join their sewing group .

I have never sewn clothing, but I have sewn curtains for my daughter.

I've done my own sewing since around 8 years old so don't see it as necessarily a women's thing but definitely enjoy it more now if dressed :)

I do minor repairs, buttons, etc. but would love to have the time to try and make a dress or skirt from scratch.

I love sewing. I learned in home economics how to sew a pillow, and when I started CDing as a teen I made some skirts out of pillowcases and blankets. For my entire marriage I was the one who sewed and mended things (not pretty but functional). After coming out to my wife as a CDer, I bought a sewing machine soon after and have made myself 3 skirts (and about half done on a 4th) and already have materials for another 2 projects. I really like creating something I can wear, from picking a design, buying fabrics, figuring out the measurements of everything, and the actual sewing is usually calming. And I like to dress while sewing, kind of thinking of myself as a seamstress.

By the way, I am watching a show on Netflix titled Velvet and it is about a fashion store in the late 50s with a lot of focus on the seamstresses. My wife says I just watch it for the dresses part that is only part of why I like it.
