View Full Version : Unexpected comment that made my day

I just spent a couple of days in Las Vegas, visiting, losing money and wandering around looking at all the changes. Of course I spent all the time possible presenting as Sarah and enjoying the experience. But at times my self-confidence begins to suffer and before long I'm considering retreat, feeling as though I look like Frankenstein's monster in drag.
Then as I was taking one of the two or three loads of stuff to the car I shared the elevator with a married couple. We chatted a little about how the slots were not being kind this trip but the weather was great. As I headed toward the parking structure the husband went toward the casino and the wife joined me taking their rolling suitcase to the cars. As we walked she commented that it was just the way things are that "we" had to load the car while the guys did their own thing. Since she had totally surprised me with that acceptance I fumbled for something to say. Finally I replied that "At least we know where things are when we get home." She agreed, validating the competence and organizational abilities of women.
I'm still smiling as I think about that moment from a couple days ago and it makes me remember I can be my own worst critic.

Sarah, Good for you, sometimes it only takes a nice comment to make ones day! Keep smiling! Crissy

Having just moved to Las Vegas last week, I can vouch for the beautiful weather. I have also noticed the friendliness of the residents. For me it was unexpected because I thought people would be keeping more to themselves because of it being a large city.
I am happy you had a good experience while there.

These little spur of the moment conversations can be so fulfilling! I have been fortunate to have had several over the years and they really can make you feel good!

I have a question for you Sarah. Do you get a players card with your real name? what happens if you win big?
Thanks Tawney

Except for narcissists, I suspect most people are indeed their harshest critics. I know I am.

I know I'm Not Sarah but I can tell you that you need a government issued identification to get a players card at all the casinos. So it would have to be in the name on the ID. And if you win big you also need ID to give your tax information. On a side note players cards are to get the perks so no real need to get one to play unless you plan on going to the same properties over and over again. Being a local I have a few but really only use 1.

Great story Sarah.
Thanks for sharing.
Keep that memory the next time your confidence starts to wane.

What seems an offhand comment at the time often shows some direction towards acceptance.
At least you are honest, I usually lose at Las Vegas too. :-)

I know that acceptance really mad your day. The few times I have been in a casino, I had a set limit that I could 'Give away' for pleasure. when that is all gone so am I. It is hard to walk away because the next spin/hand could be the big win. Ha, not with my luck. :bs:

Sarah,
Sometimes you could type them up and frame them , they are wonderful thoughts made in total innocence . I have had several which have left me speechless for a few moments . The one I've had a couple of time now is , " Oh how I wished I look like you !" What can you say to that ? It turns so many thoughts on their head !
Now I've read Gracie's reply perhaps you should type it up and frame it for the time when you feel Sarah should be packed away .

I can see how that would make your day.

I have had a lady sales clerk at my pharmacy comment nicely about my nail color and how my nails looked so nice!
I have had a Salvation Army volunteer bell ringer comment nicely about my pearl earrings and ask where I got them!
These two were in male mode!
My best female mode one was being "maamed!" for the first time!
Being accepted at church for who I am is a delight!
Oh, and the young lady who approached me and asked, "Are you transgender?" When I said, "Yes." She said, "God bless you!"

Sarah, hope you didn't lose to much cash, but it sounds like the rest of the trip made you a winner! What more could you ask for than that kind of remark, I'd take that kind of thing any time.

I have gotten most of my player cards in my legal male name before converting to Sarah mode, but a couple of times I offered up my normal ID and tell them "I'm trying a new look." There was no hesitation giving me the card and once I even got a "good for you, I like the look." If I ever do a legal name change I'll be able to get new cards so the display on the slots say "Welcome Sarah" rather than "Howdy Dave" ;-).
I really don't worry about winning big, I'm more likely to be struck by lightning I think. But if I won big I wouldn't care what ID I had to produce to get the winnings and could do so in a moment since I carry that ID, car and medical insurance cards and emergency contact information in my purse anyway.
I have to admit I could easily get used to that kind of positive interaction but because of self-confidence issues I've purposely avoided situations where I might find the conversation turning toward me. I may just loosen up a little and see where it leads.

Hi Sarah,
What a great story. That comment certainly would have made my day.
