So I posted about how in trying to get ready everything went pear shaped. Well this morning I needed everything to go to plan. Thankfully in did and I was dressed with face on and out the house within an hour to drive to catch the train.

The 09:13 was on time. I chatted to the train manager while paying for my return ticket. He was pleasant, a normal person to person exchange. An hour later arrived to catch a bus to complete my journey. One arrived after 10 minutes or so and again the driver was chatty, just treating me like anyone else.

So an hour and 45 minutes after catching the train I'm now at Cheshire Oaks, an outlet retail park. What happens is all the big retailers and brands sell off there old stock at sometimes really knock down prices plus along side these will be the premium highend shops. So bargains to be had but only if there's something in your size left!

So into Clarks. No shoes but picked up a bright red handbag for £12. Then I found the M&S outlet shop. There I found 3 skirts I liked the look of. Took them to the changing rooms, was shown without any fuss to a cubicle by an SA, tried them on, bought 2 for £30.

As well as the outlet shop M&S have a standard store at the other end of the park so ended up there via a few others. Couldn't find anything to pair with the skirts so opted for a bite to eat in the cafe. Stood in the queue chatting to 4 ladies all over 70, paid, got called madam by the male cashier, ate my food and set off to catch the bus back to Chester where I prowled the shops but found nothing so decided to catch the train home.

Train not due for 45 minutes. Cold and windy on the station so decided it would be better to wait with a glass of wine in tbe pubover the road which is what I did. I must admit to a little apprehension going into a pub alone but all was good. Caught the train, back home inlittle ovet an hour.

Decided to round off the day eating out at a pizza place I know. Matched a pair of my new shoes to one of the skirts and set off only to find it closed. I'd passed a hotel just down the road so went in there and fortunately they were still serving in the restaurant. Treated well by the staff, enjoyable 2 course meal so time to head back to base.

So what's to be made of this? Over 12 hours out amongst the muggles. No drama's, no conflicts, just me getting on with life. Oh, and in 12 hours you need to pee, which I did several times and again no crisis. Yep this is just another tale of one of us doing ordinary things but just dressed.

So what are you waiting for?

I am not waiting for anything, you should have ventured out earlier.

I hope things get easier for you in the future.

Well done Helen, what you describe is exactly my own experence. Np problem, no drama, nice chatting with people, called 'young lady'.
I've been doing this (going out1-3 full days) for quite some years now, I think about 12-15 years actually.

Girls, there is no reason NOt to go out and be part of the diverse world.

Well done. Sounds like you were relaxed the whole time. As you should be, of course. You were just doing what every other citizen does without a second thought. Again, well done.

I do wonder if crossdressing is easier accepted in Europe than in the US.

Ineke,
I believe dressing is easier in Europe and in the UK here I have had no problem in the past at all getting petrol and things like that.

So what are you waiting for?

Well me personally I'm not waiting but the point is well made to those who are. Lots of acceptance out there indeed. :)

Now then, next week however, when your SO is back home, what will you be waiting for Helen? Interesting, me thinks.

It must be better in Europe! The girls I have met from Britain, and Sweden, all seem so much more feminized in public, and so well adjusted!

Well I do get out there Helen but not nearly in as interesting a way as you do. Best I've managed so far is two hours in Manchester city center, and that was just walking around. But stories like yours cetainly give peope the encouragement to go a little further than they might have thought they were capable of.

Definitely easier in Europe then the south east of the U. S. of A. You also have more "big Cities" than we have, and more of a cosmopolitan mentality attitude.

Was smiling all the way through that Helen, sounds like the most wonderful day.My friends and I have enjoyed pushing the envelope this last cpl years and successful experiences like yours have certainly inspired me to keep doing more

Sophie

PS Diane, during my last visit to Sparkle with friends,I left them to do that exact same thing, walked round Manchester for a cpl hours with zero negativity

Now then, next week however, when your SO is back home, what will you be waiting for Helen? Interesting, me thinks.

Daisy,

I appreciate what you're saying but there are two separate issues here. I cannot deny that my home situation is one of being in the closet and that limits my ability to get out.

That said given the opportunity I'll take it and do as much as I can in any given time. Certainly I'm not alone in being in such a situation. So it doesn't matter if you're restricted as I am or have the luxury of an accepting SO, the point is getting out is something anyone can do if thay can overcome those nagging doubts about the lynch mobs.

Very good post I liked it. Most exciting bit for me is that you went cheshire oaks, thats too close for me to go to, no where near my 1.5 hour sriving threshold.

Helen,
You must be beyond thinking that can happen now , I know we have to stay safe and can't ignore certain situations but that doesn't only apply to CDers .
It's coming up for ten months for me full time and not a single problem , I have to say it's been enlightening and fun . I can't say if my treatment is down to being seen as a woman or read as a TG but everyone is so kind and helpful , I can't say I was treated badly in male mode but the difference is quite remarkable .

Maria,

Consider Llandudno. Small shopping park, 10 or so big retailers and the High St. Just next door with a good few others. Plus there's a separate retail park only 2 minutes walk away.

Teresa,

You're right, I don't expect it to happen and I now find myself loosing all feelings of self consciousness. The fact I'm dressed doesn't enter tbe equation. That said you still need the radar turned on for possible situations.

Helen,
Never thought of using camouflage paint ? Hey ! I've never thought of that before , what a great way of blending in !

What we need is the SEP Field from the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy books. It doesn't make things invisible, it makes them "Someone Else's Problem". They used it at one point to hide a spaceship in the middle of the high street. Everyone saw it but they walked around it because it's "Someone Else's Problem" :)

Eemz, if ever I get enough confidence to go out, I'm hoping for that ever elusive SEP field!

Actually, you know what? I'm beginning to think SEP exists judging from the reaction or lack of it I and other encounter.

Eemz,
One question , why should we call it a problem ? I feel some people actually enjoy the interaction with members of the TG community .
