Today my daughter commented on my outfit, saying, “you look like you stepped out of a film noir”. I’ll take that! The ladies in those films were always eye catching!

Your daughter nailed it!

Probably one with Humphrey Bogart in it perchance? :)

I wore that outfit, with a midi-length pleated black suede skirt and knee-high black high heeled boots, to go get my car's dashboard lights dimmer fixed. When I got to the auto shop, one of the ladies in the back office got up, came behind the counter with the gal who was already helping me, and said, "I just had to complement you on that hat! It's really nice!" Then she went back to work.

And yeah, I do think it's the hat which gave my daughter that impression.

I would say the hat + lipstick color make the outfit!

I've gotten to the point where I only watch old film noir or movies heavily influenced by noir. Interestingly, all the men wear pretty much the same hat, a fedora or sometimes a homburg, while on women you rarely see the same hat or fascinator twice. I love that look but I don't even attempt it for myself since I don't want to ruin the image in my mind. I have a collection of fascinators but the look I go for is very different. A while back, just for a lark, I bought a fedora which I now wear all the time. Total strangers come up to me all the time and ask, "Where did you get that hat?" which makes me think of.....https://youtu.be/Ma58q8Spuhk
