Yesterday I went to check out a supplier to install a woodburning stove , the store had a really good choice , maybe some out of my price range but I finally chose one after chatting with a helpful sales lady . She then started to fill out a sales form , I suggested she used my shorten version of Terri , I didn't really check the duplicate form until I arrived home and when I did I noticed she had written Mrs. Terri H......... . Well that was a first for me .
I couldn't believe when the phone rang today it was the installation guy wanting to do a survey to check out the flue details . I had already met the guy as he was the same installer who fitted my wife's stove . I answered the door , he didn''t bat an eyelid , I invited him in and called him by his christian name , at that he looked puzzled . I realsed that he hadn't recognised me and I had to remind him that we'd met when he was fitting my wife's stove in her home .
He did mention being slightly confused by the sales form as he had already fitted a stove for a Mrs. H........ and wondered if she had moved again .
I hadn't planned on using the Mrs. handle but at least the sales lady accepted my appearance as a female and the installation guy was perfectly happy with it .

Just be glad he didn't ask if your husband was home.... ;)
Now, are you complaining?... or bragging?

How nice is that, becoming a Mrs, without the complications. :-)

I've never ordered anything to be delivered dressed and probably never will! How cool, Teresa!

Is the Mrs or Mr in you going to have to run a chain saw or swing an ax to get the fire wood....? Just teasing I think that's a great story Mrs H------

It must have been a great thrill to see you were acknowledged for who you are!

Teresa,
So now you're impersonating your ex eh! In all seriousness in future should this happen again, it may be worth using Ms. as opposed to Mrs. if asked for. After all, you're not technically married so it does suit your circumstances more closely.
Beyond that, that was a lovely moment for you.

Rats! And I was going to propose.
Great story Mrs. H. It lends a whole new dimension to this gender switcheroo thing we deal with.

Teresa, my sister, an uber feminist, would have been offended by the use of the term misses, as she will only accept Ms and would have bitched out the technician for using the term going into a diatribe of male privilege. However, congratulations on successfully being labeled when purchasing the stove.

Interesting story T.
I figured maybe you were telling us you got remarried. All I could think was dang that's fast.
BTW, I'm not sure why a feminist that drives people around for a living would get so perturbed. Maybe they had a bad fare?

Jodi,
As Helen says she could have used Ms. but it was just a nice acceptance to be gendered correctly .
Sherry,
I have no problems with callers and delivery people , the plumber did do a little two-step at the front door the first time he called .
Jaylyn,
Funny you should mention the chain saw as I was out the previous day cutting up a large broken branch from an Ash tree and then chopping it with a large axe .
Gretchen,
The things people will do just to keep their toes warm by a woodburner ! Now what will you do if I accept the offer ??
Jamie,
I haven't been misgendered verbally but it was lovely to see it in writing even if she chose the wrong title , so I'm not complaining
Many thanks for everyones replies , I know it's a simple story , I just hope others gain their own confidence with dealing with the general public if they keep reading threads like this .

I hope you enjoy the wood stove. I have heated with wood since 1976 and love it, nothing like the heat source being right where you want it and warm and dry all the time. Sherrii

Sherrii,
I had one in my old home for thirty years , sometimes you do feel a slave to them but the benefits far outweigh the work involved .

It's good to be accepted and to be warm.

Am I the only one who got that?
(Or at least I think it was a joke... :strugglin )
