We can all learn from each other. Heres one from me. You can get a cheap red lipstick and use it to help camouflage your beard. Thick makeup does not really hide the grey tone. A little bit of the red blended with concealer over my facial hair and blended over my face does wonders to hide the grey.
It takes experimentation but you can get away with using much less makeup,
avoiding that caked on look.

Actually, when it comes to 'shading' art techniques related to painting and the like apply. For instance, on the color wheel, blue tones are shaded by orange tones and vice versa. I'm sure that for some, like yourself, that red could suffice. It also depends on the tone and texture of your own skin. Since I referenced to the color wheel but didn't explain, let me. The color wheel take the three primary colors: red, yellow and blue and then mixes them, in a circular form to illustrate the gradations of color. Perhaps a convoluted explanation but me brain is cloudy today. Anyhow, the way you shade one color is to go directly across the color wheel to its opposite color. That is what color shades it. Hope this helps though it may confuse more than it helps.

And here's an example of a basic color wheel.
