I've been working all week at gluing all the pieces back into it. But, it will never be the same!
I was bleaching out the dark stains in the plate from a black Halloween outfit I wore over it. Then, dropped it in the pool overnite to get the bleach smell out of it.
Next morning I found it all ripped and chewed up!

That’ it a bummer! A friend of mine had all of his boat wiring chewed up by the varmints.

Sherry;
Sorry to here about your breast plate. Maybe next time put in bucket in secure location.
Yes I have those pesky guy's around here also. Try scattering some Moth Ball's around.
They do not like the smell of them.

Call the pros. Critter Control.
At least you will have some revenge. Of course, you can rent a trap.
Do you mean the raccoons entered the water to chew on you prosthesis? Strange.
A breast plate does not look much like a clam.
You would think that after the first bite or two--it should be distasteful.

Sorry to hear that, Sherry. I'd be heart broken. Hope the damage was in the back and not the front so repairs won't show..

Who hasn't had that happen? I mean... wait. What?
Aside from the expensive damage, that's a priceless story. The kind that go viral on YouTube.

Next time put it in the deep end of the pool....like six feet. My sister had the wires on her car engine eaten twice by squirrels that invaded the garage. She gave up the garage and had to park it on the street.

I can't figure it out: Squirrels chew wires inside the garage but not on the street?

Sure, blame the poor raccoon.
Raccoons are nice looking but nasty pests. They leave scraps of food, even half a loaf of bread on my back porch. Once I saw through a small window a raccoons munching something on my porch. I turned on the lights from inside my kitchen. You or I would get startled when a dark porch is suddenly lit. Not that beast! He never flinched but continued his dinner undisturbed.

Have you noticed a population explosion too? When I first moved to the area almost 20 years ago it seemed you never saw raccoons. Now they seem to be all over the place the last 3-4 years. Skunks too. Maybe it’s more of a Long Beach thing than OC...

It would have been fun to hear the raccoon's description of his night out when he got home to his family. :)

Sherry I am sorry that happened to you. But to solve your problem I have some special ones (raccoons) that are meaner than your California ones I have one that roams here must be a 10 lb plus won't fit into the trap. Let me know as I can send them to you if you wish
at least they would be out of my yard!!!!

Too funny...hope you have breast plate insurance?!?! Is there even such a thing? Those things aren't cheap! Oh my! :wasntme:
That's so funny, thanks Doc. It's a shame you don't have security camera footage or something. I wonder what the raccoon thought it was, to be worth the trouble of swimming out to get.

Backyard raccoons. This troupe showed up in the middle of the day at our place. They are wearing way too much eye shadow.

Here, 3 miles south of downtown and a long ways from the edge of the city, have rabbits, skunk, raccoons, coyotes, fox, and many years ago I could swear I found a bear dropping on a walkway in my flower gardens. Last summer a raccoon raided one of my two small lily ponds and ate all the lilies, roots and all. So sorry for your loss. In my experience, raccoons will eat anything or at least try to eat it.

Reminds me of the Jeff Foxworthy story about a guy that got his nipple bit by a beaver!

What an odd way to lose a piece of kit.
Next time, use something to weigh it down so it stays underwater. Or something.

Or...think about this electric deer repellent. He touches his nose to the bait and zing! 400 (harmless) volts.
You would have to shorten the post to coon size. Bait it with tunafish --or better yet--scrap silicone, or what have you.
Try to get pictures, OK?

Around here we have wood rats (AKA pack rats.) One got up in my wife's car and caused $800 damage to the wiring. Another one chewed up the trailer wiring in my truck. A few years ago a weasel got into the chicken coop. Forty chickens, no survivors. My barn cats disappear regularly and there are a lot of fat coyotes around here. Ain't nature beautiful?

After driving to work yesterday, I caught a small lizard on top of my dash board!
So, I guess you're rite!:heehee:
I put him safely in a nearby bush.

The title for that MOI album came from a 1950's men's adventure magazine. We've come a long way from "Weasels ripped my flesh" to "Raccoons ate my breastplate." I picture the cover art as a CD swinging a purse at a hoard of bloodthirsty raccoons.

I have never lost my cloths or forms to them, They are safe in the house, but I have had to clean up many a mess made by them out in my big tool shed.
Wildlife is great, but we do have enough of some species.

I have these critters around every so often. One takes his nap behind my patio fence and the others play around my court and mess up all the wood chips in front of my home.

Susan,
Your reply made me smile , I tried that on on about my dog eating my homework , it earned me two hours in detention , sad thing is I was telling the truth !!
