Goodbye to my Favorite Shoes

I bought these shoes several years ago at Torrid. I could never walk in them gracefully, but I just LOVED how they looked on my feet. Well, this weekend, the heel broke, namely the black pad on the bottom of the heel. The spike was then exposed, and I didn't want to damage any carpeting. PERHAPS I could have gotten it fixed, but I felt kind of timid trying to get them to a shoe repair place (if any still exist near me). So, with a sad heart, I had to let them go.

In the one picture, I am wearing them with Danskin Performance Tights (I absolutely ADORE dance tights), and felt a little like Ariana Grande.

Goodbye my dear friends. You have served me well, and will miss you dearly.

I understand how you feel. It's especially disappointing when a pair of beloved shoes come apart--as shoes are regrettably prone to do after much wear. That's especially true when they're favorite shoes that have therefore been worn a lot.

Some of my favorites included open-toed sandals that finally disintegrated. When it comes to higher heels, it's not necessarily the heel itself that presents a problem, but the discomfort of having weight put on the toes compressed into a narrow space. That can be painful for anyone, women included, but it's worse for me because I have an incipient ingrown toemail on my right foot. It never bothers me with flat shoes, but if that big toe is asked to take the strain it's a different matter. I have a whole bunch of heels I've bought in the hope that they'd turn out more comfortable, but they rarely did after being worn for a short time. Open-toed sandals don't present this problem, even with a higher heel, so I was sorry to lose those shoes in particular.

Yup, hate it when a favorite pair of heels meet their end of service!

Happened to me a couple of years ago. A pair of open-toed sandals with heels, suddenly the strap broke and the shoe collapsed while I was walking about my home. Ankle turned sharply and subsequently I face planted on the floor.

Spent a number of weeks of pain walking about until the (likely) hairline fracture mended.

Never did admit what happened to friends. Story was that my foot rolled off a rock while hiking on the public land behind my property!

That's a shame. They're nice shoes. But now you have an excuse to buy a new pair!

I bought some of the tips off e-Bay thinking I could fix a pr. Ended up the new tip had a larger pin.
'Thought' I'd just drill it out to fit.... Shoes ended up in the trash. Hole was not perfect so I gave up.
For me. lots of 'easy' fix's slip away with lots of minor problems. Still fun to give it a good try!

Oh, I feel your pain, had a buckle break on a favorite pair...today, I have several favorites so it's less painful.

I also feel your pain. My favorite shoes, a pair of ballet flats covered wit flower embroidery, are falling apart. And I just got them five or six years ago.

Well, that's happened to me too, especially here in the Southwest, so it's always a good excuse. Another one is tripping over uneven paving stones on the sidewalk--but that's less likely to turn an ankle.

It's a shame you let them go. Tips are inexpensive and the shoe repair person does not care where the business comes from. You could easily have taken them to a repair shop (usually found in a mall) and handed them in without embarrassment.

I lost a brown and tan heal that way and I miss them more when putting on a dress for which they were my go to shoe, sorry to say you have more pangs ahead.

OK, these can be fixed. As Laura says you can buy new heel tips online. As for the hole size, Ronny is correct the hole size can differ but you can buy the tips with different pin diameters. You can also buy nylon sleeves that enable smaller pins to fit larger holes. All is not lost.

Just shop around on the Internet, you should find a suitable retailer.

My summer sandals, retro looking red heels, have given me in excess of 1000km of adventures over the last 5 years. I think I can get one more summer out of them but then I don’t know what I’ll do, I’ve never seen another pair I love as much!

I have several pairs of shoes that have lost heel tips or fastenings have been damaged. The heel tips can be repaired at any shoe repair bar (bring along both shoes) and other repairs can be done at more specialised "shoe doctors" that most large towns will have.

I also had a pair of shoes that looked just right and would fit my feet comfortably enough to wear for long periods of time. Didn't put them away one time -just tucked them under a chair in the bedroom- and my dog found them. So far gone they had to be trashed- no way to repair them. A sad moment.
