I was bored so I Googled "Average American Woman Size" and found some interesting links. Most of them said the average woman size is US 14 height 5' 4" 140 lbs. So I was very surprised that I rate as a slim figure at size 4 to 6 when I'm a 149 lb man at 5' 4. So lucky to be the average height of most women too!" And I find my clothes selection on ebay and thrift store to be awesome at my size.

Wish it were easy for us Closeted folk to know which is best before we buy. Some things in 18w fit and some in 20. At least my feet are only 9 1/2s!

I had written about this issue earlier, and was sort of complaining about being below average. Didn't get much sympathy, either :kickbutt: The whole problem was finding decent clothes that fit without having to raid the girls section.

Don't know what the stores are like everywhere else, but even the petite section doesn't hold much variety around here. Larger seems to be more average these days.

Even if I buy pants or jeans in a junior size, I end up having to get the legs shortened.

Jenni - what's your height, weight, and clothes size? I can't believe you're too small!

I cheated and gave my skirt/waist size, which is 14. For tops I am about an 18. Which is why co-ordinated outfits and dresses are such a pain for me :)

Oh well, could be worse. It's a big world full of pretty clothes to try on. So a few won't look right. Even my wife has only about a 50% success rate in finding outfits that really suit her. So as long as I don't strike out every time, I try not to complain.

I checked 14 to average it out but I'm kind of like Erica. My skirts are 12-14 depending on who made it and most of the time I need a 16 top. Because of this I don't buy too many dresses, wich is OK, because I usually prefer the skirt/blouse or sweater combo.

I'm slim and big shouldered so I'm all over the size map depending on what I'm buying. I can slip into a juniors' skirt but anything on top especialy with sleeves comes from Lady Grace or Lane Bryant.

I think you have an obsession with your size. Infact you're quite vain about it one could say don't you think?

I have one minidress and jacket in size 10. I also have stuff that is labeled 20W. I can get into a shift or "sack dress"(anybody remember that term?) that has a smaller number on the label than a shirtwaist dress or something else with a waist line.

The size 10 I am sure is "vanity sized", that's when the manufacturer deliberately puts a smaller number on the label so women on a diet will try it on, think "wow, now I can get into a size 10", and buy it in a celebratory mood.

My median size is 16, so that's what I put on your poll.

They are called "womens" sizes for a reason. Thing is our bodies are not thier size. Others have illuded to it and I will add. I am 5'5", 145 (beer belly, anywho) And I can wear a size 4 skirt, because I have no hips or butt. But my tops are a medium (and I have no idea what this equates to) because I am a guy and I have shoulders and muscles. If I wear a ladies T-shirt I look like the incredible hulk busting out.

So to claim to be size "whatever" is a joke.

I am 5'9" and weigh in at about 165 and wear a size 14 dress. Skirts are 12/14, tops are either Larger or XtraLarge. 0.02

I "cheated" as well, as I wear size 8 jeans (on the hip), need a "medium" skirt, but need a "large" top. So, depending on what it is, I range from 8 to 18.

I'm a little bit obsessed with my weight and size - I watch what I eat every day because I don't want to get fat and lose fitting into my school girl, cheerleader, and skirt suit outfits. But I don't think I'm vain about it.

It's hard to maintain weight or lose weight when most people put a lot of time into work. Unemployment is a really good time to exercise a lot to lose weight - that's what I did, and I'm so happy to fit in size 4 to 6 stuff vs size 16.
