View Full Version : Most Ridiculous Thing You've Bought

There are so many things I've wished I'd skipped out on -- but I think my $200 breast plate was probably the worst. I had the pink fog and thought it was the perfect time for them, but you know what happens. They were too big to wear in public, and they didn't match my skin color. Big disappointment.

Hah! The first breast plate I bought was supposed to be a C and they sent me a DD. I wore it a few times in public and looked like a porn star w low cut tops. Eventually, I got a C size and it looked proportional. I have been known to take the DD out of retirement on occasion, but mostly for private exhibition.

That's what this thing looks like! I've put it on under the normal stuff I go out in... but it's too much. I'm already too tall. These boobs are just horrible.

If they are filled with silicone, then you are stuck with how they look. If they have the fiber fill, you can perform surgery on them from the inside to reduce the volume.

Yeah, I'd say a breast plate was the most ridiculous thing I've bought as well..... The thing was too hot for me to wear, I only wore it for like, a couple of hours once at home and I sweated SO much under it, when I took it off, it was like Niagara Falls coming off of me! ROFL  It wasn't THAT expensive, I got it from Wish so it was like, less than $50 if memory serves, but it was still a big waste of money.... I wound up trashing the thing.

The breast size on it was OK, but like y'all, it didn't match my skin color either. I'll stick with my breast forms. LOL

The trick to wearing a breast plate for any extended period of time, especially in warm weather, is to get an old tshirt and cut it down to size so that you wear it between the plate and your skin without it showing along the edges. It will absorbe considerable perspiration and keep your skin free of irritation. Wearing a breast plate in the winter is like wearing a coat. You can literally wear a skimpy outfit in 30-45 degree weather and be comfortable.

I bought a brand name wig on eBay once which was one of my favorite brands. I couldn’t believe my luck at finding a quality wig for around 10 dollars. Then it arrived. Right out of the box it looked like I had a nest of rats on my head with their extra-long tails hanging down. I did my best to fix it, and spent a lot of time with it. By the time I got done it looked like a three-foot blonde Afro with the top half chopped off. I shipped it off to a place where it would be right at home. The local landfill.

I am not sure why you girls don't like breast plates. I love mine! Although I never venture out of the house. I have had one for just a few weeks and have many hours wearing it. Last Saturday from the time I got up, until I went to bed, 16+ hours.

I have to admit, it is the most ridiculous thing I have bought, at least CD related.

Like Monica, I put a layer of fabric that breathes between my chest and the silicone form. I use a wash cloth or towel in a color close to my chest skin color, cut so it fits behind the form without its edges showing. It will fray over time and wear, and more quickly in the laundry. If you know how to sew, you can stabilize the edges to deal with the fraying.

I went the "water balloon" route in my bras for ages then finally jumped into the silicone form arena. I stayed away from the CD shops and only went with "official" sites used by women. I ordered the forms with covers and mastectomy bras and went on from there. At $ 300 dollars for the forms it was a bit pricy but totally worth it to me. The worst thing I have ever bought? I got a white satin original back lace corset I had always wanted. I soon learned these are NOT fun or exciting to wear, at least for me anyway. I did get some waist reduction but no way could I lace up and wear all day. Total waste of money for me. But just another learning curve moment.

No matter which "hobby" you follow, think it over---you get into stereo gear, satellite gear, video gear, painting, photography, classic cars or anything else you must always realize that no matter what you like to do there is always someone or something out there that will be more than happy to take your money. My CD hobby over the years has been pricy as well, I could have bought a nice new car or started a nice downpayment on a house for what I have spent over time. But then again, it's the cost of a hobby.

Breast forms that were way to big. Followed the size chart but didn’t allow for the chest tissue I already have. Had to buy 48D bras to fit the forms and it was just to BIG.
2. Cheap corset didn?t fit well.

I would say it was a 2018 Volvo S60. New, paid way too much and sold it 1 year later at a considerable loss.
Best was a Lexus LS 460 for $10,000. I drove it for 2 years, sold it and got every penny back out of it.

I know this is not CD related but that really was not the question was it?

Can't think of anything really ridiculous... Last week I bought magnetic eyelashes for $7. It was an impulse buy at a wig store. After opening the package I read the instructions: "must be used with magnetic eyeliner...".

I did a search for magnetic eyeliner only to find that it's difficult to remove! The wig store took them back and gave me store credit. I thought I was getting eyelashes that would be quick and easy to put on and take off. Nope!

Like others I've wasted a lot of money on cheap wigs that looked absurd on my head, but my all-time fiasco was as follows: I wear a misses size 16 or 18, depending on the cut of the dress. But I got the bright idea that I wanted see what I'd look like with enormous boobs. I went to a very upscale department store and bought a women's size 24 formal gown. When I tried it on at home, I was swimming in it. Fortunately I hadn't taken the tags off, and I was able to return it.

I too have to go with on-line wig purchases. Thankfully they weren't expensive but that's also been true of wigs that have turned out to be just wonderful and I've worn them out and about numerous times.

And as for Volvo S60's. I have one now 20 years old, bought at 3 years old for 1/3 the new price, still looks good, still goes like stink, stops just as quickly and still one of the most comfortable driver friendly cars I've ever driven. Those Scandinavians know a thing or two about good design.

All those low cut, crop tops, and dresses I bought over the years because they looked so sexy, but I couldn't wear with forms!

Then, I bought my realistic plate with a full neck. So, matching my skin is NO ISSUE! Now, I can wear all those pieces I collected and I sport cleavage down to my navel!

It has been my go to prothesis for over 8 years! Everyone thinks I've had augmentation surgery. Even if I'm talking with them in person! Some times they have to touch it before they believe it's not real!:heehee:

Hi Laurie,
There are so many silly purchases, especially when the pink fig hits.
3 1/2 inch high heel strappy sandals that were a half size too big. I knew this when I bought them, but they were the last ones left. I am wearing them in my profile picture.
Skirts that were way too short. Way too many, never wore them out of the house.
Barista bar maid costume
My first corset that I completely blew out when I pulled to tight the first time I laced it up.
Just to name a few. LOL too much fun. Thank you
Brenda

Always buying something unsuitable, the worst exercise is buying wigs off E Bay.

You need to feel the width and check the quality.

Trying them on is a bonus....

Try a wig shop in future.

I think the most ridiculous item I ever wasted my money on was a pair of too-tall mail order high heels. The concept looked stunning, in the online photos. Made of a glittery material, the classic stiletto shoes had matching spats which converted them into an enclosed, above the ankle high heeled bootie.

When they arrived, they proved to be unwearable. The shoes were poorly made, and rubbed the back of my heels nearly raw where the back edge of the shoe hit my Achilles tendon. The spats had to be put on after you were wearing the shoes, and pretty much required being a contortionist or help from a second person to get them positioned and fastened right. Except the ankle part of the spats was way too small for my ankles... I can’t even remember what I did with them. I probably gave them away at a clothing swap event.

Runner-up was what was supposed to be an auburn wig, bought on line from a Chinese company. What arrived was pure black, and so over-populated with hair that it looked like a football helmet on my head. Their customer service dept insisted the color was correct, despite photos from me that showed otherwise, and to get a return credit, good only on another wig from them, I would have had to ship it back to China at my own expense. Instead, I threw it out and vowed never to buy from that company again.

Honorable mention: a beautiful and very expensive glittery gold cocktail dress, which when I bought it on a last-chance clearance sale, I think I paid only 10% of the retail price. But... I bought it shortly before the pandemic hit, and since then I’ve lost enough weight to drop eight to ten dress sizes, so it is now much too large for me. It is in the back of my closet, never worn, and maybe I will eventually be brave enough to try tailoring it down to fit me.

If anybody has watched the 2003 movie Normal about the TG person living in a small Midwestern town it illustrates the way I shop. Walk all self conscious into a rural thrift store, find the racks for my size, grab a quick fistful of clothes, pay as fast as I can and get out of there. Get home, take them out of the bag and find out that what doesn?t fit is stained or missing buttons.

Basically every purchase I make is bad in the sense that I don?t examine items closely in the store and it?s thrift shop so it?s often tacky and dated styles. I mean, what do I expect when I drive over to shop in a rural thrift store near a town of 500 people? Farm wives are not known for their fashion sense.

Those are my worst purchases.

I was 5'11" and 200 lbs...no way! They were so feminine and pretty though, they made me feel special.
But, I had to hold on to something constantly, while walking in them.
They became my CFM bedroom heels, mostly lounging and sleeping in them, till I donated them to a local religious resale shop.

Hold on, let me pull out the list. Although I've had more than my share of silicone disappointment, that seems to be already well covered.

I would say, maybe not ridiculous, but no longer really needed: breast forms. With HRT I've developed 38-almost-Bs, so with a 38B bra, and being relatively fit, I get a nice bust. Not overly big, but certainly as good as many cis women. Plus it feels more natural and comfortable than breast forms to just wear a regular ol' padded bra. I aim to be just any other woman and not draw attention to myself, so that works for me.

Otherwise I've bought wrong-sized clothes from time to time, things that looked OK in the store, but at home not so much, and some tops that needed an engineering degree to figure out how to put them on and wear them. Seems my biggest fails come from Wal-Mart...

Shapewear that really doesn't so much as it's too thin.

I'm right there with you!
One of my initial purchases was a pair of hot pink CFM pumps which I would, no doubt, be able to slink and sway down the catwalk like a sexy super model.
The result was somewhat less umm... delusional?
To say that my sashay was similar to that of a newly born Giraffe would be kind. I'm surprised that I didn't go for a loop and knock myself out. My calves tightened like a drum as I lurched to and fro around the house and it was a rapid and utterly convincing crash into reality. I wear flats now...

The only thing I can think of is I bought this really cute and sexy white bikini off Ebay, purely because it looked hot on the model, and for some reason thought I would have the same results. Obviously I was way wrong, and I darn well knew that from the start.

I bought a tight back hook longline bra. It didn't take me long to figure out that I would need an assistant to do the hook-and-eyes in the back. It was too tight and too long to hook it in front and spin it around.

Laurie,
I confess I've not really bought anything too ridiculous , perhaps you could rephrase the question and ask have you bought anything you just don't have the confidence to wear ?

As for anything silicon I can't see the point , I try to go out as natural as possible so I can integrate into society , certainly no hot sticky breastplates and no lower padding . Perhaps I have some heels a little too high and some skirts a little too tight but then don't some GGs .

Over the years it's a matter of what suits and what doesn't , before I make a purchase I consider when am I going to wear it . I guess the difference for me is it's reality and not a hobby , it is a different ball game .

Shoes and boots are my Kryptonite. I have a number of pairs that I may never have the confidence to wear outside. But hey, they're cute, they fit, and I paid single-digit prices for them. Except for that one pair of boots that I went back to the store on half-price day, so I bought them, only to find that getting them re-heeled was way more expensive than I'd imagined. $4 for the boots, $19 for the heels. Oh well.

Candy, I don't think that ballet boots are intended to be worn vertically.
I saw a pair in a Salvation army store once. They were way too small, or I might have considered them. They were no longer there on my next visit.

I bought a wig without trying it on first. It turned out that there were several problems with it. First, it was too tight. Wigs come in different sizes, basically small, medium and large. 2nd, it looked good on the mannequin head because it was on crooked. It didn't look good on my head placed the way it's supposed to. 3rd, not just scratchy, but downright impossible to wear! The lace front was like a jagged metal screen door material and there were metal hair combs gouging into my forehead!

It was only ridiculous that I bought it on a whim without trying it on first. I've been modifying it to make it more comfortable to wear, but it's still unbecoming compared to other wigs I own.

At 6' tall and 225lbs, I know this amazon gurl has to be selective in what I buy on amazon. However that lesson was a bit lost on me when I first started buying high heels. I purchased two pairs of heels with a 2" platform and omg I felt like I could slam dunk on a 15ft. basketball hoop with those on.

Now I purely stick to single soles and honestly I love those a lot more now. I take pride in being able to stand in 5" pumps for hours on end and I always chuckle when I hear gg's complain about 3" heels on a night out. Other than that I haven't made any outrageous purchases.

Additionally from wigs... The most ridiculous way I bought something fem.... Was at the mall with the wife and kids and they were shopping and had quite a few packages so I volunteered to take them back to the van... Cut through Macys and they were having a monster discount on dresses. So I grabbed a beautiful red one in a size 10, waited a couple minutes in line to pay, then dashed out to the van, hid the dress under the front seat and ran back to find the wife and kids. Wife asked "what took you so long?".... I got lost! I loved that dress.
