hello all,
yesterday when walking with my wife and granddaughter (aged 8, but does not live with us) - my granddaughter announced that she thought that "anyone could wear whatever they wanted". My wife agreed and pointed out that women often wear trousers. "And men can wear dresses" my granddaughter added, "but they might look a bit silly!".
I wonder - is my granddaughter just broadminded or does she know that I wear dresses?
stay healthy,
luv J

It's pride month, so it's everywhere right now.

I agree with the others. She is just very perceptive and loves to explore new ideas - 8 year olds are very much that way. They often surprise us with how much they do know about the diversity in this world. She is perhaps trying to find different behaviors as being acceptable. You and your wife did the right thing - positive support of her discovery.

At 8 she could be reading ‘The boy in a dress’. Great book!

Probably not you. They’ve started teaching this kind of stuff to kids.

I don't think you have anything to worry about Grand Dad,

broadminded - it's how they teach at school now.

My daughter is now 22 and she was taught at school about that age, that it's okay to be different, by 13 these "girlish" boys were having sleepovers with my daughters and other girlfriends, having make overs, playing dress up etc.
My youngest daughter at the age of 14 was taking her T friend out shopping to try on womens clothes.

For some reason, it's more acceptable if it's someone in their age group (but all my girls accept me in either mode)

One thing I know about most 8 year olds is they say what is on their minds. If she thinks her granddad wears a dress, she would have probably asked you about it already.

She's just keeping an open mind and speaking in general.

I'd go with broadminded.
