My GG friends (who often buy me girlie stuff), seem to refuse to get me any silk stockings (I don't know if this is a bit of a tease and they are just waiting for the right moment or something). Naturally I will get some sometime (but it's better when they are a presie so I am waiting for the girls to oblige).
My question though - I've never even touched a pair - is silk something worth waiting for or is nylon perfectly acceptable and perhaps even scarcely discernible - especially when you take high-gloss etc. into account?

PS. The girls seem to be the same about slips and peticoats - I don't have any of those either! They say such things are for old ladies. How many of you GGs would agree? "Old ladies" and CDers or all of us?

Are you sure you mean silk? Real silk?

Silk is not very elastic and so they would be shaped and not actually cling to your legs like nylon. I would think they would be very hard to find too. Fully fashioned stockings, in the style of the 40s etc are all nylon as far as I am aware.....but I may be wrong. What you probably have in mind are very sheer nylon stockings which you can buy just about anywhere.

Petticoats are for flirty girls, french maids and outragious goths.....which is why CDs LOVE them!!!

I would have no idea where to buy real silk stockings, and I consider myself an accomplished shopper. Real silk stockings are a thing of the past, a time when silk was the only fine thread available.

Now-a-days, when people refer to silk stockings they do mean sheer or super sheer stockings - one wearing only, if that!

You can buy silk stockings. A bit expensive, though:eek:
Maybe something for christmas. :D

I keep thinking about getting some, the cost does put me off somewhat though.

Ooooh! I had a pair once but was hit by the Purge. They were lovely, and so are slips, petticoats, bustles and all those things of days gone by!

Thanks girls. Had a look at your links and I see what you mean about the price! It would be just my luck to ladder them the first time I put them on (probably in my excitement!)

Thanks again

Stockings and hold-ups (thigh highs) are my absolute favourite item of clothing, particularly 100% Nylon Fully Fashioned Stockings.

I have been thinking about purchasing some Silk Stockings, but due to the expense have been put off. Has anyone tried them at all? I would be interested to know how they compare to nylon stockings - are they more or less prone to snags and ladders?

If I'm wearing a longer skirt and boots I usually wear tights. They're thicker and hold up better to the abrasion that the boots can do over time. If I'm in a shorter skirt I like to wear thigh highs so I can show off the tattoo on my leg.

I had a pair once - can't recall where I got them though. I would not recommend them. Stretch out more easily, texture not as even, easily damaged, (but then so are nylons.)

silk stockings are a bit rougher and not as uniform in texture as fine, plain knit nylons are. I prefer nylons. But, in looking through my latest hosiery catalog from Secrets In Lace and seeing the new styles going for upwards of $50 bucks a pair I wonder if I even like nylons that much now!
