Here's a topic we can toss around for a while.
Are crossdressers from the upper class, middle class, or lower class?
I consider myself middle class and enjoy my crossdrssing activities.
Do you think more of us come from the upper class ( ecentric? )

AnneKathleen: Given the money that we spend to indulge our passion, I'd imagine that most CDs are in the middle to upper income class. That's certainly where I fit in. As my income has grown over the years, so has my femme wardrobe. A disproportionate share of spending has been on SHOES!:D

Interesting thread - perhaps you should start a poll with annual income range selections. You could include 2 or 3 currencies per selection.

Example - (I don't really know the exchange rates, this is just a format example)

1. 0-20,000USD/0-15,000Euros

2. 20,001-40,000USD/15,001-30,000Euros

And so on, just a thought.

Probably very few statistics on this but I did read somewhere that cd's, transgendered people are by far in the upper IQ levels. This would lead me to believe that they also have better paying jobs.

As for me, I have a low paying job right now, but that is by choice, I am going to school and don't want a demanding job that requires 60 hours a week of my time.

Class? We don't have a class system here in Australia ... apparently

Me? Middle I guess - raised that way. Professional background. But currently, on a financial level, I'm way down at the tail end of the scale. Does that make a difference? Dunno. Really, I'm not that aware of class structures and can't see how money makes a difference, it's just a tool to buy stuff and it can't buy attitudes or values.

So, putting aside money -
I believe you get what you work for and if you don't think you've got enough maybe you aren't working hard enough or doing it in the wrong areas.
I'm a greenie ... but not radical - there are a lot of greenies who I consider as looney as the 'cut it down and if it moves, shoot it then cut it down' brigade.
I'm a pacifist - I'll fight if I'm attacked by believe no-one has the right to take another life.
I believe I'm tolerant of others, but expect them to be tolerant of me.
I'm well educated (masters) but believe that true education is about what you use, how you use it and the thirst for more, rather than an exercise in collecting degrees.
If a discussion doesn't have a philosophical bent I'm find one or make one up and when that doesn't work, have a good a good laugh with the other bod anyway.
I live to enjoy life and if I'm not, accept that the fault is probably in what I'm taking from life and look for something to enjoy - that doesn't mean I don't have the right to be miserable, angry, frustrated, etc, just means that I prefer to be happy and so don't let those sorts of feelings dominate.

Does that put me in a 'class'? Dunno. Probably not. Mind you, my gf is on record as saying that no-one would ever accuse me of being conventional.

What's wrong with the Clash?

From the Yvonne's Place survey: (http://www.yvonnesplace.net/survey/survey99/demographics.htm)

Annual Income (n=1,147)
More than $100,000 7.24%
$80,000 TO $100,000 7.93%
$60,000 TO $80,000 13.95%
$40,000 TO $60,000 25.46%
$20,000 TO $40,000 28.95%
Less than $20,000 9.85%
I am currently not working 6.63%

And the Secret Garden survey: (http://pub24.bravenet.com/vote/stats.php?usernum=2058911072)
under $20,000 110 8%
$20,000 - 29,999 153 11%
$30,000 - 39,999 182 13%
$40,000 - 49,999 190 13%
$50,000 - 69,999 273 19%
$70,000 - 99,999 258 18%
$100,000 and above 243 17%

Of course both surveys were online, so both are undoubtedly skewed a bit toward higher income.

Casey Morgan

I'm lower middle class.

Marlena's numbers are interesting, but I'd have to say they're further skewed simply because they only take into account those who "actively" crossdress. I wonder what the results would look like if you opened the question up to those who have ever felt the desire to wear clothing of the "opposite sex".

Well enough off to be embarrassed about it.

Politely but firmly decline to talk about IQ :(

No class to speak of.

Clash is ok but it really fell off after London Calling. Was sorry about Joe's untimely demise though.

I've met crossdressers from all socio-economic classes. I doubt you will ever get accurate statistics on representation as the socio-economic class one is in often affects things that would influence reporting, such as: who has internet access, willingness to share your dark secrets with anyone, how you generally feel about yourself, time and opportunity to CD, etc.

Father was an MD and mother was a PhD, and had two incomes of the size such people are supposed to make. I was a professional day laborer most of my life and spent much of it living in a van. Hate most rock, like most other jazz and European classical, love and play Celtic folk.

don't think there is a correlation between income and transgenderism or intelligence and transgenderism. There may be studies with respect to transsexuals, but transitioning is expensive, so I would suspect that the studies, if any, would show a correlation between transsexualism and a skewed distribution to higher incomes and intelligence levels. Since there are no really good, accurate studies of the crossdressing population, it is a WAG about what percent of people are crossdressers. Even less likely for there to be definitive data about intelligence and socioeconomic achievement.

Depending on the metric, we're in the upper 1 to 5% of income earners and I am in the upper (1 to 10%) for intelligence.

Warm regards,
Christina Nicole

At our Erie Galas, we have taken informal surveys. It appears to run the entire spectrum. The one thing we noticed at our galas is the age of the cd's present. The average age is generally in the late 40's. We seldom have a cd under 30 attend. We attribute this to attitude and disposible income. Those of us who are older are generally more sure of who we are and do not have the fear that younger cd's have. Also, we have generally established ourselves in a career and have some extra money to indulge on our little hobby. This is all assumptions. The cd's who attend our galas come from all walks of life.

Im lower upper middle class, myself---by American standards

But Please be aware that Social Class in the UK is a "Different animal" than it is here in the states. Here, "Class" is a function of one's income and education, and we can be quite mobile in those reguards, But my experience in the UK suggests that class THERE is usually something one is BORN INTO and one continues to identify and be identified with despite one's education or financial circumstabces.

There also seems to be a kind of "class loyality" among members of a different class that tends to keep them generally "in their place"---somewhat a foriegn concept to us Americans who usually strive to be upwardly mobile.

Yet I dont think CD is any more exclusive to any one social class than a common cold.---Lesser educated lower class members, however MIGHT confuse CD with Gay and hide or mislable themselves---but then again, such Ignorance can also be found in upper classes too.

Lower-to-middle class before college. Middle to upper now. Shooting for a solid upper-middle before I retire.
