This was just so weird. I don't know what to make of it, perhaps someone has some insight.'
So early yesterday morning, just before waking up, I"m dreaming and I hear clear as someone is in the room with me:
Why do you like to dress ike a girl?
I even tried to answer in my dream, but fumbling for a response, I woke up. Very very strange. Ideas on what to make of it?

Although I'm not as well versed in psychology as I am in biology, the profs used to say that most dreams represent things we haven't yet brought to conclusion while we were awake. I'd be far more concerned if you heard voices while AWAKE! You sound well within the normal to me.

There have been several times since my wife passed last July that I would swear I hear her talking to me. Usually in the morning just saying "Good Morning, Love". So I'm pretty sure you're no stranger than I am.

Donna, I have had similar experiences where I believe someone is speaking to me while asleep. Generally, it has been about something that is bothering me.

Is it strange that while half asleep I hear the dog bark outside my bedroom door and I jump out of bed thinking he needs to go outside only to find he is sound asleep?
Or all the dreams where friends and family find me crossdressed and I'm desperately trying to get away but there is no escape?
Or how about the one where I somehow forget to attend several weeks of classes in college and then have to take a final exam? (and I haven't been in college for a very long time).
I hope this doesn't come across as making fun of you situation, I think weird dreams like this are pretty normal.

Unfortunately, it's rare when I can recall any dream 5 minutes after I'm awake, Donna.
But, I'm curious what, "Muelller and Skulley ", means?

I have these quite often, usually someone calling my name or asking me a question. It feels so real. Some experts say these are auditory hallucinations that happen as you wake up, when the brain is half way between a dream state and full consciousness. That or aliens are visiting to try to decide if we are worthy of being abducted?
Muelller and Skulley refers to the tv show X Files. Where weird stuff happens.

Neurologically dreams are thought to be nonsensical as it is thought that they occur when the brain is sorting through memories to decide what is valuable and what can be erased. If the memories that are being recalled form a series of "scenes" that are halfway sensible and can be formatted into some kind of story we are aware of them. But if no story line can be found nothing happens that can be recalled. Some think the brain needs to clear out trash memories but to do that you have to recall the memory into something that is structured in the way of the event that formed the memory. It is a kind of reimaging an experience so you can sort of experience it again. Our brains accumulate a lot of junk that needs to be erased to make room for new information. One of those subconscious and unconscious processes we are usually unaware of. The context of the memory is important for the brain to decide what to do away with and what to re-store in an easy access pattern and keep for the future. How does it decide? Nobody knows. But with 100 billion neurons there are a lot of things that need to be "cataloged."
Dreaming is something that most animals do, even "less evolved" animals that sleep. So it appears to be something that is capable of occurring for any creature that has a significant brain structure or central information processing center. Sleeping is obviously very important for the brain so something is going on. But are they important? Some dream specialists think so but others believe it is just nonsensical neurological information that is being sorted through and organized for quick access or erasure as irrelevant now even though important in the past. So, it seems that the bottom line is that it is mostly just theory as to whether dreams have meaning or not. Pretty much like so much that goes on in the brain. It is a mystery.

Not to nitpick, but it's Mulder and Sculley.
Nyla - the 2nd and 3rd types of dreams you mentioned, I've had those too.
Haven't had the College one in a while though.
Sherry - I'm mostly like you, I rarely remember any of my dreams shortly after waking up, but there are a few that stick with me for some reason.

Yep, a typo in the subject line, thanks for the correction.

Interesting the most obvious are not being mentioned: 1) spirit commuicating , or 2) alien telepathy.

Thanks for that Gretchen. It explains why I rarely recall my dreams. Because they r primarily incoherent nonsense!

Nyla - I have a similar "test" dream often except mine is because I did not bother to study for a test. I sit there sweating bullets knowing I am gonna fail. Like you I have not been in college for a very long time.

Muller and Scully were characters from the TV show "The X-Files". I believe Donna was referencing the spookiness of the situation.

For the first year after my wife's passing I would often start awake hearing her voice. That has begun to fade with time.

I rarely recall dreams. What I do quite often, but not nightly or even every week, is talk in my sleep. My wife has never mentioned that I talk about cross dressing. What seems to be most prevalent in my sleep talking are conversations with boat dealers I used to sell to for a boat factory. I did that from 1983 until 1999. I loved that work; but, sure don't think it's worth dreaming about. Yes, dreams are often weird so I'm not certain yours are any stranger than anyone else's. However, if you have that dream again and come up with a viable answer why you like to dress as a girl, please share it so I can tell my wife why I like it so much.

Last night I dreamt of a SpaceX falcon 9 booster coming in for a landing in front of a tall building, then climbing it like King Kong. Does it get any weirder than that?

Nyla; but most importantly....what were you wearing when you were climbing? :)

Hi Donna, "Why do you like to dress ike a girl?" Maybe you are asking yourself "Why do I like to dress like a girl?". By the way, Why do you like to dress like a girl? LOL Brenda

I didn't see where anyone else has asked, so I will...
Did you recognize the voice or otherwise know who it was?
Was it male? Female? Yours?
Did whoever it was, sound judgmental or curious?
And the big one (I guess): now that you've had time to think a bit about it, do you have an answer for next time?
I'm curious - and not immediately dismissing it as just part of a dream.
Add to your list:
Astral travel: maybe someone who came to "visit"
your subconscious: asking yourself why.
someone WAS in your room - but got the heck out of there before you woke up fully.
(and just for fun) a time traveler who stopped in: maybe as part of a research project on "primitive cultures and their social constructs." [Sorry - the SciFi nut in me.]

Mulder and Scully. The correct spelling is out there.
I tried to cultivate the habit of checking the date and time periodically while awake so that I would also do it while dreaming, but ithasn't really panned out, as I seldom remember my dreams.

We can't change the spelling of the header. Usually mods edit posts with notes about spelling.
Sometimes spelling is not as important as getting some messsage out. Not everyone is free to type messages on the forum without being quizzed about what are you writing. Thus many messages tend to be shorter and somewhat cryptic. Deal with it. Put on your autocorrect glasses.
Super questions SaraLin, I'll try to answer.
No I did not recognize the voice. It was a soft female voice with a "I'm just curious" tone. I started to reply with pat phrases: comfortable, softer and similar and immediately started to autocorrect my replies. Wait that is really not accurate. My dreams are rarely more than a snippet. As I was fumbling in dream with reply, I could feel/see the soft image fade out. It reminded me of the sci-fi dimensional traveler who just didn't have time to wait for the reply.
Again, I don't normally remember dreams, and only dream about CD. That was til yesterday, when "as soon as you finish cleaning, you can put on the dress on your pillow". Wait, Spock died. This is not mind-reading. You can call it weird, or normal, but I call this whole thing... spooky. It's Mulder time...

One last suggestion - maybe the house ghost got curious?:heehee:

Ok, I did see a house ghost some time ago, about 18 months ago. Only one I've seen. "you're not supposed to see me" whifff, gone in a flash.
Did you have something along the same lines?

Firstly, as you might be able to guess, yes, I?ve got a couple of days free; that?s why I?m online here today (also currently dressed en-femme).
Secondly, when I see the phrase ?x-files? or ?weird stuff?, I take notice.
I can?t provide proof, and this is just my belief which I don?t expect anyone to accept, but I sincerely believe in the spirit realms, and have studied extensively with a professional (well known in the UK) spirit medium. Sadly, she hasn?t given her express permission to be named, so please accept this as just my personal rambling thoughts.
To my understanding, the time between sleep and awake is when our minds are more open and receptive to the spirit world, so any ?voices? that are heard during this time could be from someone, either a relative who has crossed over, or from any number of non-material intelligences.
There is no quick and easy answer to who this voice is, as it?s taken me many years of study and ?weird? experiences to get to the stage I?m currently at, and it would take just as long to explain.
Unfortunately, my wife has almost the same views towards spirit mediumship as she does towards anything LGBTQ+, so this is another part of my life which will probably remain concealed.
