TL;DR I was unexpectedly outed to two (well, three) different people in two different places on the same day.

About a month ago, I posted about a "twofer", going out with two different GG friends, detailed here: https://www.crossdressers.com/forums/showthread.php?281883-Shopping-and-lunch-with-GG-friend-unexpected-twofer&p=4646947&highlight=#post4646947. This is a different kind of "outing".

Yesterday, I went out with one of the GG friends and my wife. We went to our favorite upscale thrift shop, then had lunch at a snack bar in our beautiful local gardens, then we dropped my wife off at home because she had work to do. My friend and I went to a local art museum and had spent almost two hours there when I saw a guy from a distance, and he looked very familiar. To my horror, I realized that it was a very close friend, but one that I was not out to. I skedaddled to another gallery. My GG friend instantly figured out the deal and covered for me, implying she was there by herself. She said she had said my friend's name louder than necessary when she saw him, to let me know, but somehow I hadn't heard it. I walked around the other gallery, but then realized I had been wanting to come out to my friend for a long time, and maybe this was meant to be. I went back to where my GG friend was, and heard her talking to my guy friend. I also heard the guy friend's girlfriend, and at that point I just walked about the corner and said HI!. The girlfriend took one look, ran up and gave me a big hug, and said "you look great!" We haven't really know this girlfriend for a long time, but my wife and I already liked her. My friend just said "You look different". Anyways, after that we just talked about their travel plans, and ours, like we would have if I hadn't been wearing a black denim skirt and a nice dark teal cotton top with an elephant and some rhinestones on it. Bottom line, it was very affirming, and couldn't have worked out better.

After leaving the museum, my GG friend and I went to a local fair trade store where my wife and I volunteer, and where I am out to all the employees. After chatting with the employees, I heard my GG friend say "Hi [OTHER FRIEND'S NAME]!!". And from the name I knew it was a friend of my wife's who I've met a few times. My wife, my GG friend, and this lady are all part of a group of women that get lunch together most Fridays. Again I stayed out of sight for a few minutes, but then again I knew she was a nice person, so for the second time I came around into sight and said "Hi! [NAME]". It took her a couple of seconds to recognize me, but then she said "You look beautiful". She's a very warm person. We hugged, and she said some very supportive things. We chatted a bit and, well, that was that -- my second accidental outing of the day. And i lived to tell about it.

If you accidentally run into someone you know some day, it probably won't be the end of the world.

That?s a nice story! I think people basically get over the shock pretty quickly. Acceptance is a wonderful thing.

I think at some point you just reach critical mass of people who know, and there's no secret any more :)
